  1. Oh i see! Congratulations! What is your field of interest and who interviewed you?
  2. Has anyone heard from jhu after the interview? There are 2 acceptance posts on grafcafe!
  3. Well, I guess it is an IR for me then! 😞
  4. can anyone confirm BU acceptance on GC? Haven't heard anything yet
  5. Haven’t heard yet. Kind of weird they are sending few rejections everyday throughout this week.
  6. Did anyone have interview with JHU? Do they usually interview all the shortlisted candidates?
  7. Don’t worry bro! Things will be alright! I haven’t got a single acceptance yet! 0a/6r/7ir/4p for me. 😛 But yeah forcing myself to take things lightly. Let’s see! If things totally go wrong, there is always next time or other options.
  8. Thanks everyone for your support. Best of luck to you guys. The most frustrating thing about applying from a developing country is the fact that there is nothing you can do to improve your profile anymore. Like i can publish 1 or 2 mediocre papers but that is not going to be equivalent to pre-docs and it should not tbh. Actually everyone does not get the opportunity to do pre-docs in usa/uk from another country, specially from the developing ones. The frustration starts from there- you did everything you could in your capacity, still you are not competitive enough. So yeah- nothing to do at this moment- just have to wait and see how things turn out in the next 7-8 weeks.
  9. I applied to 15 programs! 12 in the USA and 3 in the UK. The 12 programs in the US are distributed like this- 3 in the top 10, 3 between 10-20, 2 between 20-30 and 4 between 30-60. So far I have got 1R and 4IRs (including my safeties). I am assuming rejections from 2 of the rest top 10s. Which means rejections/implicit rejections from 6/7 already. This is quite frustrating and feels like i should stop trying for academia/research and look for other jobs! 😞
  10. Well I thought interviews do not take place like this. Like first priority, second priority and so on. But yeah let's see. Seems like Minnesota econ is out too. I guess 4 implicit rejections already. Tough times
  11. Which unis can we expect this week?
  12. About Notre dame interview: I don’t think the subtext is correct! They may have sent interview invitations based on field of interest/submisison date/ alphabetical order! but then again, given how things are going, it is better to be pessimistic! 😞
  13. Has anyone got email from notre dame? Wondering whether not getting an email by now means an implicit rejection! 😭
  14. Did anyone receive interview email from emory? There is a post on gradcafe! Thought emory was my safety
  15. Can anyone confirm the northwestern rejections posted on gradcafe? There are 4 or 5! Do they send notifications on a Saturday?
  16. Can anyone confirm whether emory has actually sent rejection emails? I saw 3 rejection posts in gradcafe
  17. Yeah I think this is the case. He marginally missed the minimum requirement in one of the sections of TOEFL.
  18. NC state sent rejection to one of friends today! Can anyone else confirm it? Their deadline was Jan 1.
  19. Hello, I previously posted my profile here and got some good suggestions. However, after going through the profiles of previous year admits here and in GC, I am now wondering if it is it possible to get into top 20/30 schools without RA/Research organisation experience. To be honest, the scope has been limited for me since I come from an underrepresented country (located in South Asia), should I even aim for TOP 30? My research experience so far includes only two independent thesis in masters level and two semester long graduate research projects. Nothing in Central Bank or a research organisation since the recruitment process of those organisations take 2-3 years in my country.
  20. Hello, I was wondering who belongs to underrepresented minorities group? Is it only for US permanent citizens/residents or for least developed countries as well? Thanks
  21. Ohh okay. Did not know that. Will keep in mind and thanks for your suggestion. However, my undergrad and econ/maths course unis follow north american system but the problem is the schools are not well known. DO you think a masters from US top with grad level econ courses will help>
  22. Hey, my research interest lies in the arena of international macroeconomics and international finance. Mainly works around exchange rate, sovereign debt and crises.
  23. Thank you so much for your suggestion. Actually sorted the schools based on my research interest and the professors working in this field. But yeah will look into the lower top 10 and may be focus a bit more on the 11-20 schools. About the GRE, I have heard mixed opinions to be honest, some say Quant 169 is okay and some say verbal 153 might be a concern. Will loon into pre doc as well, thanks.
  24. Hello, I am planning to apply to PhD in economics programs (Fall 2022). My profile is as follows: Undergraduate: BBA with a Major in Finance (University of Dhaka, the best university in my country Bangladesh, although not highly ranked) CGPA (3.94/4.00). Graduate: MSc Finance from The University of Manchester (Grade: DIstinction) Graduate : MS Economics in my home country (Ongoing, finished 24 credits out of 36, current CGPA 4.00/4.00) Graduate Coursework: Under MS mathematics in my home country (completed four courses, currently taking 4 more but the result will not be available before application) Math Courses: Completed : Calculus I,II ; Partial Differential Equations, Integral Equations, Mathematical Statistics, Business Statistics, Matrix theory with Linear Algebra (This is a P/NP course, prerequisite for MS mathematics courses) . All are A/A- Currently Taking: Real Analysis (P/NP course), Discrete Mathematics, Dynamical systems, ODE, Stochastic Processes (Results will be available in February) Economics Courses: Undergrad Level: Intermediate Micro (I,II), Intermediate Macro (I,II) Graduate Level : Advanced Micro, Advanced Macro, Cross-sectional Econometrics, Time series econometrics, Applied Econometrics, Advanced Econometrics, Mathematical Economics Other Relevant Courses: International Finance, Asset Pricing, Empirical Finance, Labour Economics (All Graduate Level) GRE: Quant 169, Verbal 153, AWA 4.0 (Planning to retake in early November) Research Experience: Independent Masters Thesis in Manchester (Got distinction), Econometrics courseworks with good remarks, Doing another thesis for MS Economics in my home country Teaching Experience: Working as Lecturer in one of the Universities in my country. Taking Advanced Business Maths Course. LoR: Supervisor from Uni of Manchester, Two top economists of my country (I have taken multiple courses under them and have done good in research coursework) I am planning to apply to 9/10 schools from the top 20 and 3 from 20-30. MIT, Princeton, Harvard, Berkeley, Wisconsin Madison, John Hopkins, Michigan, Minnesota, Maryland, Vanderbilt, UCSD, Boston. Some suggestions would be helpful: 1. Do you think I am too much ambitious in case of selecting schools? 2. Do you think the less known schools (from where i have done econ and math courses) will be a disadvantage for me? Although I have done good in rigorous programs like MSc Finance in Manchetser which was mostly proof based masters. 3. Since some of the math courses will not be shown in transcripts though i am currently undertaking those, how do I mention those? In My SoP? Thanks.
