  1. A lot of schools I never heard back from have sent offers this week to me -- I think a lot of the implicit rejection concerns I had turned out to be implicit waitlists instead. I already committed to a school so I'll be turning them down but I wanted to post here in case people next year reading through the thread were concerned whether they were implicitly rejected or not
  2. I don't think you have to assume IR! You might be right but there's no need to expect the worst outcome. Maybe they have a different approach this year? It looks like most people were indeed accepted in the 2nd day of their target week, but there are some stragglers (maybe due to people turning down offers?) Also, the April dates might just be outliers from people who didn't specify the right day or maybe they got off of the waitlist
  3. It looks like it's getting harder every year. Covid gave it a bump too
  4. I'll never understand how they can straight-faced give that little money for Santa Barbara lol
  5. All I know is from last year's Grad Cafe and pretty much most of their acceptances were posted around end of first week of March beginning of second week
  6. Definitely agree with @jk_econ lol -- if rankings are roughly the same with all of your acceptances then location/cost of living + stipend definitely matters quite a bit
  7. Don't think they're done interviewing until after tomorrow. Previous years they tend to release results around second week of March
  8. UCSD from previous years has maybe a few acceptances in late Feb but most of them start coming around the first week of March
  9. I'll be rejecting it -- hopefully, that helps more people get in off waitlists or if anyone is implicitly waitlisted
  10. Your profile looks great to me to be honest -- i think getting an A in analysis is always helpful since the top programs care a lot about that and pretty much any reason to reject someone is taken when they're getting 500+ applications for 20-25 spots. Apart from that, I'm not sure about a masters since I didn't personally do one but I've heard this helps mitigate lack of coursework in econ or math and maybe let's you get different letters but nothing beyond that. RAships are hard to get but that seems like the barrier to entry these days the higher you go in the rankings
  11. Yeah it's definitely possible my LORs made a difference or just the randomness of applications went in my favor. There's definitely a lot of luck at play and multiple different routes to the same destination
  12. I've done surprisingly well this cycle and I think it comes down to taking Grad level Micro and majoring in Pure Math (dont have to major in this but take Analysis and get an A and just as a signal of math maturity maybe take Abstract Algebra and Number Theory) If you really want to break into the Top 10 then conventionally I think you need a really good pre-doc/RA position and a letter from whoever it's with. Good luck to you though!! There's a lot of noise in applications and it's impossible for them to pick the perfect applicants just based off of our applications so I wouldnt take it personally
  13. To all the people asking about UPitt: They just sent me an acceptance and want to Zoom with me to talk about my plans/other acceptances. Not sure I'll accept but at this point I'd wager they'll have sent out all acceptances by the end of today.
  14. Dont have an answer to this but I like your username! Sadly, the bears havent been good since then lol
  15. UCSD is typically pretty late for some reason -- They tend to give offers after the first week of March (based on last year GradCafe). Modal acceptances were around early March for them in 2020 UCLA should be soon based on last year -- modal acceptances were around late Feb for them in 2020
