  1. I don't remember it being specified, but there was some information on reimbursement of travel costs, so I think it's in person.
  2. Has anyone heard anything from Penn?
  3. I think you should ask the program. My guess is that it's possible. Hopefully everything works out!
  4. Haven't heard and expecting to hear back soon, no inside info though.
  5. First off, I really hope you still get an offer. Your background sounds impressive. And yeah, I totally get that, and seriously considered moving into a different direction with my career after the last cycle myself. There is a serious case to be made against going for a PhD in the first place. I guess with your experience, you wouldn't have any trouble getting interesting and fulfilling jobs (with likely better salary prospects than in academia) if you decide to go that route. My advice would be to see the cycle through and if you get no offers, take a minute to figure out what you really want to do. My thinking last year was that in the end, one year isn't that much time in the grand scheme of life spent in pursuit of something I will likely enjoy doing for the rest of my career. I figured that if I didn't get any offers this year either, I would be happy that I truly gave my best shot and move on to different things in life.
  6. Wishing you guys with no offers the best of luck with the rest of the cycle. You probably already know this, but the process is very noisy, and even very small factors in the applications could make a huge difference, so you shouldn't consider any of this as a reflection of you as a researcher. I got no offers last year, so I know how you feel. If doing a PhD is something you really want to do, I would encourage you to consider reapplying next year (if you get no offers in the end, that is). This year I changed two letter writers, got a bit more research experience, and wrote a better SOP. Currently, I have multiple offers (from top 10 programs, if that matters to you), so it seems to have been worth the trouble. For what it's worth, I think the stream of rejections last year really helped me grow as a person (I know, a cliché). If you are in the rare position of being a serious applicant to quality economics PhD programs, you probably haven't had to deal with much of professional disappointments. Especially if you're aiming for a career in academia, it's best to know how to handle these types of situations and keep going, so to speak. If you want to talk, feel free to shoot me a DM. And hang in there guys - these things definitely do not define you as a person.
  7. I haven't heard yet. Hope it's good news, but I doubt there's no more rejections.
  8. Nope, but expecting it to drop soon.
  9. Does anyone know how the admission to Columbia Business School's Business Economics works? AFAIK, there is no separate application, only the box in the normal economics application indicating that you're interested in both tracks. Is the admission process joint with the econ department? Can you be accepted to both, for example?
  10. Yeah, I got this as well, as did probably everyone on the waitlist.
  11. Based on last year, I'd guess there will be a lot of decisions from top programs coming out next week. Good luck everyone and remember to take care of yourselves!
  12. Not receiving any update from Stanford yet is probably good news.
  13. Yeah, you're right. Not too hopeful, but probably will still attend the visit day.
  14. Yes they did. Apparently the waitlist is short, but who knows.
  15. Yeah, this seems likely. As cliché as it is, try to enjoy the days with no news as well. Speaking from experience, getting rejected sucks, and pretty much everyone is going to have at least some. Days with no news beat those days by a wide margin.
  16. On a similar note, has anyone heard from Stanford GSB (EA&P)?
  17. At least last year they did and seems like they might be doing the same thing this year. I don't know if it's much of a positive sign if you survive a rejection wave. Last year I think the last wave had much more rejections than the prior ones (mine included).
  18. I did. Is there anyone who applied but didn't?
  19. Yeah, you're right, just figured I'd check. Guess I am one of those people waiting for an update so intensely...
  20. There is a post on GC claiming they got an implicit rejection email from Stanford. Can anyone confirm any news from Stanford?
  21. I agree with your sentiment generally (no need to be anxious) but would like to also point out that unfortunately some schools do first release all acceptances and for some reason release the rejections later on, without any additional acceptances or waitlists.
  22. Thanks for the info and good luck with the interview!
