  1. Hello! I am an incoming junior at U-Mich (took a gap semester bc of covid) as a transfer student and have a few questions about potential paths for grad schools. I am a econ major, looking to try and get into a PhD program for economics as my next educational step, however, in order to pay for undergrad tuition, I am participating in the ROTC program. While I am transfering with a 3.95 gpa, I am slightly behind on math due to having a bit of trouble transferring credits (should be able to catch back up with a few spring and summer classes), and think I will graduate with a gpa in the range of 3.8 as a lower boundary (hopefully it remains 3.9+ though). After completing my undergraduate, i will be obligated to work for the military. Would this severely impact grad school searches? I would love to get a t10 program, and understand that i would be essentially required to RA at this point. Other important info. URM Have a choice between 4 years active duty + 4 years of reserve, but much higher pay + healthcare + housing, or forgoing most of the pay + all of the benefits but doing 8 years of reserve (1 weekend a month commitment). Is the reserve only one more viable for the econ phd route?
