  1. I am planning on applying to the Industrial and Systems Engineering Masters at USC.
  2. Dont know how it happened. Just took my GRE test today. I have to admit, the math is definetely a lot harder than the Powerprep and Kaplan tests. But somehow, when I got my score at the end, I was surprised by the perfect 800. Seems weird, cuz there was at least 6-10 I guessed on......Verbal was 580 (difficulty comparable to the Powerprep and Kaplan difficulties. Anyone can guess how I got a perfect score?
  3. Please see attached. I wonder why Powerprep doesnt have explanations. These two questions confused me. I have attached a word document with the problem. Can anyone explain? For the first one, it says that W is twice Z. Then it says W = 30,000, so isnt Z = half that = 15,000? Why is the answer 12,000? I think I am getting confused one the wording "total number of commuters" with "average number of commuters" But the graph only shows vehicle occupancy. For the second one, X is currently at 1.3 Going to 2.8 is (2.8-1.3 = 1.5 more) Percent increase is 1.5 / 2.8 = 54%....so why is the answer 115%? Thanks a lot! PowerPrep2.doc
  4. Funny the 2005 Barron's GRE does NOT teach a section on permutations and combinations. Does it not appear on the GRE? So far, I have taken the 2005 Barron's CAT, Kaplans CAT #1, Powerprep #1 and have NOT encountered any. Is it not important. Does it not appear (only on gmat?)

    TEST structure?

ncy111, Is that always the order? Writing, verbal and math? Do you necessarily get the extra sections?

    TEST structure?

How is it like. Is it two essays first 30 min and 45 min. And then verbal and math? Then the extra sections (experimental and research) can someone explicate?
  7. Do they tell you when the section is experimental?
  8. I took the powerprep test 1. Math I missed 4 (24/28) = 780 Verbal I missed 11 (19/30) = 440 It seems like you can miss more on math and still get a higher score. Unless the verbal was wrong. Can anyone explain this weird scoring algorithm? By the way, on the verbal, I only missed 2 on the first 1-10, so it is not like I completely got butchered in the beginning.
  9. The "reflection" of a positive integer is obtained by reversing its digits. For example, 321 is the reflection of 123. The difference between a five-digit interger and its reflection must be divisible by which of the following? A) 2 B) 4 C) 5 D) 6 E) 9 Answer:E I just did 54321 -12345 41976, which is divisible by 2, 4, 6 or 9. But then the five digits do not have to be consecutive.. so could be 50197 - 79105. Can someone see the trick?
  10. QUANT COMPARISON a = a-c b b-c where b does not equal c and bc does not equal 0. Which is bigger? a OR b Answer: C (equal) I took a total guess. Even if you cross multiply, you get: a(b-c) = b(a-c) plug in what numbers? Tricky.......
  11. QUANT COMPARISON 100,210 x 90,021 100,021 x 90,210 Which one is bigger? Answer: B How can you tell? They basically reversed the first three digits? Is there a trick to this?
  12. QUANT COMPARISON S is the set of all integers from 1 to 48, inclusive. V is the sum of all of the even integers in S. D is the sum of all of the odd integers in S. Which one is bigger? V or D+23 Answer: A How can you tell, without physically adding V= 2+4+6+8+10+12....+48 D=1+3+5+7+9...+47 then +23? Thanks!
  13. ncy111 OK, now I am confused. I took Kaplans. I missed 9 total out of 28 on the math. #1-10 missed 3 #11-20 missed 4 #21-28 missed 2 Total missed 9 Got a 750 Barrons #1-10 missed 0 #11-20 missed 4 #21-28 missed 1 Total missed 5 Got a 580
  14. ok, i will take my time on the first 15! Hopefully you guys are correct. But then agian Scheng, it depends on the level of difficulty and how close toward the beginning that you missed it.
  15. I took the 2005 Barron's CAT. I missed 5 on math (23/28) Got first 10 right, missed 4 between 11-20 and missed the last question. Got a 580 quant score. How is that possible?
