  1. I am planning on applying to the Industrial and Systems Engineering Masters at USC.
  2. Dont know how it happened. Just took my GRE test today. I have to admit, the math is definetely a lot harder than the Powerprep and Kaplan tests. But somehow, when I got my score at the end, I was surprised by the perfect 800. Seems weird, cuz there was at least 6-10 I guessed on......Verbal was 580 (difficulty comparable to the Powerprep and Kaplan difficulties. Anyone can guess how I got a perfect score?
  3. Please see attached. I wonder why Powerprep doesnt have explanations. These two questions confused me. I have attached a word document with the problem. Can anyone explain? For the first one, it says that W is twice Z. Then it says W = 30,000, so isnt Z = half that = 15,000? Why is the answer 12,000? I think I am getting confused one the wording "total number of commuters" with "average number of commuters" But the graph only shows vehicle occupancy. For the second one, X is currently at 1.3 Going to 2.8 is (2.8-1.3 = 1.5 more) Percent increase is 1.5 / 2.8 = 54%....so why is the answer 115%? Thanks a lot! PowerPrep2.doc
  4. Funny the 2005 Barron's GRE does NOT teach a section on permutations and combinations. Does it not appear on the GRE? So far, I have taken the 2005 Barron's CAT, Kaplans CAT #1, Powerprep #1 and have NOT encountered any. Is it not important. Does it not appear (only on gmat?)

    TEST structure?

ncy111, Is that always the order? Writing, verbal and math? Do you necessarily get the extra sections?

    TEST structure?

How is it like. Is it two essays first 30 min and 45 min. And then verbal and math? Then the extra sections (experimental and research) can someone explicate?
  7. Do they tell you when the section is experimental?
  8. I took the powerprep test 1. Math I missed 4 (24/28) = 780 Verbal I missed 11 (19/30) = 440 It seems like you can miss more on math and still get a higher score. Unless the verbal was wrong. Can anyone explain this weird scoring algorithm? By the way, on the verbal, I only missed 2 on the first 1-10, so it is not like I completely got butchered in the beginning.
  9. The "reflection" of a positive integer is obtained by reversing its digits. For example, 321 is the reflection of 123. The difference between a five-digit interger and its reflection must be divisible by which of the following? A) 2 B) 4 C) 5 D) 6 E) 9 Answer:E I just did 54321 -12345 41976, which is divisible by 2, 4, 6 or 9. But then the five digits do not have to be consecutive.. so could be 50197 - 79105. Can someone see the trick?
  10. QUANT COMPARISON a = a-c b b-c where b does not equal c and bc does not equal 0. Which is bigger? a OR b Answer: C (equal) I took a total guess. Even if you cross multiply, you get: a(b-c) = b(a-c) plug in what numbers? Tricky.......
  11. QUANT COMPARISON 100,210 x 90,021 100,021 x 90,210 Which one is bigger? Answer: B How can you tell? They basically reversed the first three digits? Is there a trick to this?
  12. QUANT COMPARISON S is the set of all integers from 1 to 48, inclusive. V is the sum of all of the even integers in S. D is the sum of all of the odd integers in S. Which one is bigger? V or D+23 Answer: A How can you tell, without physically adding V= 2+4+6+8+10+12....+48 D=1+3+5+7+9...+47 then +23? Thanks!
  13. ncy111 OK, now I am confused. I took Kaplans. I missed 9 total out of 28 on the math. #1-10 missed 3 #11-20 missed 4 #21-28 missed 2 Total missed 9 Got a 750 Barrons #1-10 missed 0 #11-20 missed 4 #21-28 missed 1 Total missed 5 Got a 580
  14. ok, i will take my time on the first 15! Hopefully you guys are correct. But then agian Scheng, it depends on the level of difficulty and how close toward the beginning that you missed it.
  15. I took the 2005 Barron's CAT. I missed 5 on math (23/28) Got first 10 right, missed 4 between 11-20 and missed the last question. Got a 580 quant score. How is that possible?
  16. A fellow member told me that u can miss 10 and still get 700+. Miss 3-5 and get 750+. Is that true? There are only 28 questions on math, missing 10 is like getting 1/3 of it wrong. There is no way to get 700+ missing 10? (18/28)
  17. Ok, it seems like the Barrons cd under represents the score. There is no way missing 5, getting the first 10 math question right, out of 28 will end up with a 580......... If anyone else can comment on Barrons cd, please let me know! thanks
  18. Barrons doesnt grade the level of difficulty. I got the first 10 right, missed 4 between numbers 11-20 and missed the last question. I dont get it? Anyone else have experienced Barrons. Scheng, you used powerprep right?
  19. I am aiming for a 680-700 on the real thing. Does that mean I can only miss like 2-3 on math to get that score? I really hope the Barron CAT test isnt representative of the real thing - score scale-wise.
  20. I just took the Barron's 2005 GRE CAT test. I only missed 5 on the math (23/28) and got a 580 score! Is that possible? I hope the software is somehow misinterpreting the scores...how can that be? Should be at least a 600 something right?
  21. scheng, so basically, the GRE score would be a little lower than what I got on my SATs? even though you could use the calculator on the SATs and not the GRE? I got a 550V and 720Q on the SATs (paper test with calculator) I am aiming for a 500V and 700Q on the GRE. I haven't taken a practice CAT test but hopefully I can get that.

    GRE vs GMAT

I have heard that the verbal is easier on the GRE, since GMAT has critical reasoning. What about the critical reading? Also, there is no data sufficiency, only quant comparison. I hope the GRE math is a lot easier than the GMAT. I only scored a 74% on the GMAT math and am hoping for a 700 quant GRE math score. Any experiences with both tests would be greatly appreciated! Please tell me its a computerized SAT test without the use of a calculator!
  23. Seems like Kaplan's CAT test are harder than the real thing? What about Barron's??? You cant really trust paper tests since the real thing is computer adaptive?!?!!?
  24. Just wondering how the CAT tests represent your real GRE score. I know Princeton overexaggerats.
