  1. As far as I know UVA is considered one of the best public universities in the US (probably ranked 3rd or 4th among all public universities). The CS department is known to be very hard to get in. I don't know much about Vanderbilt, but I would definitely choose UVA!
  2. My score was 740 (54%) and I applied for a PhD at Rurgers. Haven't heard from them yet. Anyway, I got full funding from Ohio State for PhD, so I am going there. --Bilash
  3. That is exactly what happened to me last year. Among the 9 schools that I applied, 8 were rejects. However, I only had results of the first three years of my undergrad, so that may have been the problem. As I was getting the rejects, I forced my mind to believe that fall 2005 wasn't for me and I will rock in fall 2006. Fortunately, things went reasonably well this time and I'm going to Ohio State University for a PhD in CS this year. I hope those who are unable to attend grad school this fall do not get heart broken and get double momentum from this year's mistakes! You all are fantastic people and that alone should give you a place in a top grad school! But alas, grad school admissions is quite unpredictable to a great extent! Good luck to you all!! -- Bilash
  4. Thanks Eddie and knd7!! @Eddie, The RA-ship that I received requires that I join a research lab in Washington in summer. This research will be counted toward my PhD degree. My professor works in collaboration with that Lab. @knd7, Thanks a lot for all the kind words! Yes, I remember those crazy days of GRE and subject GRE. How does time fly!! As you correctly understood, I just can't attend grad school without any aid. So, can't go to Columbia, though I would love to do that! Anyway, I think OSU not much worse than CU. Also the summer research offer is quite exciting!! You all are great people here on TM! I'll miss you all too. I'll keep visiting TM whenever I can get the time to do so. Now that we all are decided on our grad school (most of us), I wish you all good luck with your studies!! TM rocks!! -- Bilash
  5. Thanks Thande and Sarvani!! @Thande, so where are you going finally? @Sarvani, I'm so happy that you are going to Utah with your hubby! Best of luck to both of you!! -- Bilash
  6. Thanks hadd74 for the suggestions! I did not actually decide to go to UIC. Since funding is a MUST for me, I was thinking of going to Tennesse since they gave me full funding. Columbia gave me MS admission without funding. So Columbia was out of my options. Luckily, I got full funding from OSU for PhD and I'm going there this fall (actually I'll be going there this summer to join a research lab in washington, which is part of my PhD degree). Thanks again all for so much information!! -- Bilash
  7. Congrats fss! Yes, aid for MS is difficult at UIC. But if you have impressive profile, there are still some chances!!
  8. So this is it! I am going to OSU for doing my PhD in Computer Science. I am starting off with an RA position in a laboratory in another state before finally joining OSU in the fall. I will be working in the lab for about 3 months during summer '06! Although initially I was not sure whether I will do a PhD or not, now I have made up my mind. Let's see how it goes. I thank all fellow TMians for all your helps, advices, and encouragement. The TM experiences are simply unforgettable. Thanks Erin for making TM such a place! -- Bilash
  9. UIC is good. But not sure about the aid scenario. Since I have already received funding from UTK for MS, I might go there. Also, I am considering going to OSU for a PhD (full aid).
  10. I was admitted to OSU MS in CS on 6th February! No decision of funding yet!
  11. That's my question, too!
  12. I am in at UIC for MS in Computer Science. They didn't say anything about funding yet, but said I'm being considered. My admits/rejects: Admits (All for MS): Columbia, OSU, UIC, UTK (offered funding + PhD), Binghamton Rejects (All PhD): Stony Brook, JHU, UCSB, Columbia Pending: NYU (PhD), Rutgers (PhD), UMass (MS) Any idea about job prospects from UIC? Anyone else here going to UIC for CS this fall? -- Bilash
  13. My application to Columbia CS PhD was rejected, but they gave me MS admission! Can't be happy since "no funding is equivalent to rejection" for me. Does anybody know if Columbia ever funded MS students? Is there any point in contacting professors about funding? Any help will be appreciated! So no one knows about the MS funding situation at Columbia?
