  1. :2cents: EMS is a new course introduced this year, 2006, by the IEOR department and seems to emphasize risk management. Doubt if you can find further information unless one of the Columbia IEOR don/representative responds to your queries. I believe they will have new 'face books' with e-mails of incoming students for 2006/07 and you can try to correspond to them. Personally, I would look for established programs rather than a mix & match from the various associate programs e.g. OR and IE. Both sidelined by the popular MFE program. I am assuming you would be an internation student come 2007. Good luck and best wishes for 2007!
  2. Hello Mim and many would be NYC uni students or New Yorkers, Doesn't matter which university you are heading to, we are in this together as TM-ians. All are welcomed. Currently my budget hovers between 600 to 1000 USD for housing. I hear that one can get USD400 :hmm: . I have no idea as to how to go about dealing with the owners. Do we have to get a broker? Is there a 'how to' guide? New Yorkers please advice. What is a realistic estimate for food? If I can get a studio, then I can effectively save on that. And I hear Chinese and Malaysian foods are relatively cheap. Problem is, don't know how cheap. I am in the midst of collating data for my budget. What is a realistic per diem estimate? Location-wise: I've been told to avoid the Bronx, safety is a big issue if you have classes in the evening. And to look at places between Queens and Brooklyn. Looking forward to more responses.
  3. Hello there, I am starting a thread to band together international students going to NYC. We can talk about housing, living costs etc. All are welcomed.
  4. It was a lack of courtesy, that's that. I wouldn't bother.
  5. Holden, Yes, it has been an adventure by itself. As with all great journeys the destination may be near, but it's the start of another. If it is possible to create another folder of PhD/MSc trials and tribulations, we wouldn't part! Anyway, congratulations and hope to hear of your great day! All the best and cheers.
  6. Dear Samy, Heartiest congratulations and best wishes in your future endeavours. Cheers.
  7. Glad to share your success! Heartiest congratulations and whilst I don't know anything about your area, either one is great. Follow your heroes. Cheers.
  8. Heartiest congratulations! Vancouver is a beautiful city.
  9. Heartiest congratulations! Cheers.
  10. Just got an admit from Warwick's Institute of Mathematics, but rejects from elsewhere. Still waiting on 5 more. Oh hell! Was wondering if I should have applied to LSE too. It's passed, and no regrets. It will be hard should there be no overlaps. Keeping fingers and toes crossed. Getting my pet, guinea pig, to do so too. :D
  11. What other choices do you have? Sorry to hear about it. Cheers from a buddy.
  12. Sorry to hear about it. Is this for an MS program?
