  1. Hi everyone, I didn't know where else to post this question as I couldn't find a forum for passport. Sorry about that. I am an Indian student accepted to US universities for my MS this fall. My problem is that my passport expires this June. There are two procedures listed on the Indian Passport Website, one is Reissue and another is renewal. I'm not sure which one I should apply for. I applied for my passport when I was a minor. And so I was given a 5 year validity which is about to expire now. On the website, the following is written: Application Form No. 1 Form No. 1 is to be used for New/ Reissue/Replacement of Lost/Damaged passports. The same application form is used for passports for minors as well. New passport means applying for a passport for the first time or applying for a passport if you have never held any passport earlier. In case an application was ever made at any Passport Office prior to the present application and whether the application was processed or closed, or even if passport was issued and not received by the applicant, details thereof should be given in the relevant column in the present application. Failure to disclose these details, if any, would invite applicable penalty. Reissue means an application for another passport in lieu of an existing one which has either expired or is about to expire. An applicant may apply for a new passport in lieu of an expired/ about to expire passport upto 3 years after and 1 year before the expiry of the Passport. Re-issue of passport should not be mistaken for renewal of passport. Renewal of passport means that a passport which was originally issued for a short validity of one to five years - under certain emergency conditions on the part of the applicant - is now required to be extended to its full validity of ten years from the date of issue of the passport. (Renewal is a zero fee service and the application should be made in Form No. 2). A Duplicate passport is issued in lieu of a lost/damaged passport. Application Form No. 2 Application Form No. 2 is for making application for Police Clearance Certificate, ECNR Stamp, Inclusion of Spouse's name, changes in Name, Appearance and on Exhaustion of pages on the passport and change of address. The same Form is used for renewing a short term validity passport to its full term validity. I don't know If I should apply for a renewal or a reissue. I also heard that if it is a reisssue, then my new passport number will be different. But unfortunately, I've already taken the VISA Fee receipt paying $100 at HDFC Bank. I'm confused about the whole thing. Please help me out. :( 2. How long would it take to get my passport if I applied for a reissue or a renewal? This is because I'm planning to apply to VISA in the third week of May. :(
  2. Thank you so much. I thought I lost hope. I'll go check them out more clearly...
  3. Oh.. Thank You. Do my AWA scores carry any significance? And one more thing... one of the universities required that I score 590 in Verbal but I have only 580. It wants a 720 in Quant but I have 780. Does it mean that I lost my chance to apply to this university?
  4. Hi, Finished my GRE V 580 (81%) and Q 780 (89%) (1360) and an AWA Score of 6.0 (96%). Was a little bit disappointed with the Verbal score... Prepared so hard. Averaged 1490 in Princeton, Kaplan, Big Book, Barron's but I was depressed just two days before the exam. Wasn't in a good mood but still took an ETS test in which I scored 1230. Was so disappointed that I thought I won't even have the guts to enter the hall, but somehow my confidence made me write the exam. ANo not in August. June 26th :) Sorry about the delay. Was a little busy in other projects. Anyways, I'm not exactly sad for getting those scores, but from an optimistic point of view, I'm happy. Atleast, my talent got projected through my AWA Scores... I don't know whether I should be happy or sad. I don't know if I have any chances of getting into a good university. B.Tech in ECE Aggregate as of now: 79% My Extra - curicullar profile is the best in my college, I've done many activities... that separate me from the rest of the students... I'm actually planning to take up Electronics but don't know what it is called in MS...probably Communications but even that I'm not sure... I heard its difficult for Electronics people to get Financial aid in Computer Science fields so I'm opting only for Electronics fields... I'm searching but in vain. And my TOEFL date is on September 15th. No idea about all the deadlines stuff...Criterion for the Financial Aid... Not even understanding them. Please, help me. Even a small trigger and I'll start working on it. Thanks a lot...
  5. Hi, I've just finished my GRE V 580 and Q 780 (1360) and an Analytical Score of 6.0. I'm a complete n00b as far as the universities are considered. I'm the first one from my family. So, I don't have any information as to where to start off from. B.Tech in ECE Aggregate as of now: 79% My Extra - curicullar profile is the best in my college. I'm actually planning to take up Electronics but don't know what it is called in MS...probably Communications but even that I'm not sure... 6. I think what you say is reasonable. That is the reason, I'm not talking of someone who has his test date in another 2 weeks. I'm speaking of persons who have some more time. Regarding what I'll be taking, it'll be material which I framed a little and mostly material I procured on the net. And come on, I wouldn't be giving you all GMAT questions instead of GRE. You can write the official tests, but believe me or not, before taking the official tests, I practiced on atleast 1000 questions of each type. It is just practice that counts whether it is a verbal question or a math question.
  7. I don't know if they've become tougher nowadays but let me tell you one thing... The best way to succeed in GRE is NOT to predict the question bank. Remember, you might get a higher score but there is no way you'll get a lower score than what you deserve because this is a Standardized Test. Even if your score is less, your percentile could be high... So don't worry... Give it your best shot when you're completely prepared.
  8. I'm planning for an online testing system for GRE. I've already started one and completed most of the Antonyms part. Wondering what I'm balbbering about? Well, I'm creating Online Tests for you to practice on. And yes, they are all free except for some rules to abide by. There's still some work left but I guess it'll be over soon. Now, the plan is, I'd like to what you people want me to stress most on... I've built an antonyms base of around 1000-2000 and they are all high frequency words in the GRE. Which other area would you like me to stress more on? And one final thing, if you have any important questions/problems, please feel free to post it here and i'll include it in the database. And be as fast as possible, in giving me suggestions coz once the site is up, it'll be difficult to change anything as even I have to look after my acads...
  9. Can someone tell me, if there's any change in the wordlist of 15th and 16th Barrons? I've taken an ETS test yesterday but most of the words were not form the 3500 list of the 15th edition... Please Help..
  10. Oh thank you so much for the clarification...
  11. Thank you so much for the clarification. I'm surprised that you haven't got any pretest section :)
  12. People are still not getting any pretest section?
  13. Congratulations on your score. I do not have idea abt colleges still, but could you please tell us what sections you got in the test? Did you get a pretest section and a research section?
  14. A Hearty Congratulations. Could you please tell us what sections you got and in which order?
  15. Hi to Erin and to all those who have posted a question, Those were some terrific analogies. They kept me thinking for sometime. Would you be kind enough to post some more analogies for us to practice? But I still have one doubt... I did choose Candle:Wax but i still have this fork:metal in my mind. What is the primary disctinction? Choosing an answer primarily depends on how I build a bridge... Your bridge is what I chose in the beginning but what if i had chosen: "Tire is made of only rubber and nothing else", "Fork is made of only metal and nothing else" but "Candle is made of wax and nothing else"? Where did the wick go? In that case, as far as purity is concerned, fork:metal would seem more appropriate... And also, like many different types of metal, there are different types of wax too... This is the doubt lurking in my mind. I'm not trying to argue as to why the answer is the answer that was chosen but I'm just trying to learn what not to do in analogies. I mean, there could be several bridges sometimes which seem correct to some and several other that seem correct to some other. In that case, people end up with their own answers with valid arguements. How do I choose a unique answer? Please Help...
