  2. Re: Fall 2021 Stepping-Stone for PhD: Evaluation and Advice

It is not at all "absolutely imperative to get into a top program" to land a job at a place like the Fed.

But Fed hiring is pretty much like the hiring of very good academic institutions. So if...

Re: Please evaluate my profile for 2021

Assuming that you will improve your GRE a lot, a letter can definitely get you into a top 20. Make a list of schools you might apply to and share it with your letter writers. Ask them to strike out...

Re: Scholarship for Masters in Economics

It is unlikely, but not impossible in the United States. Note also that if you are an American undergraduate and talking about American PhD programs, getting a master's is not usually part of the...

Re: Need advice on what to do next

Following along with Prof's suggestion--None of here know the level of math in the program you took. Ask the professors in the program whether it is adequate for a PhD program.

Re: PhD Micro Grade Distribution at T30

No. If you're taking a PhD course as a T30 they want to see that you did well compared to the PhD students. Doesn't have to be a 4.0.

Re: PhD Micro Grade Distribution at T30

Admission committees may well not know the grade distribution in another department. It may be something you want mentioned in a letter or personal statement.
  14. Re: Starting from scratch and applying to PhD -- will this plan work?

Having some research experience is valuable--doing independent research is rather rare.

Since you have some coding skills and some experience working in a research team, you might want to consider...
  15. Re: Starting from scratch and applying to PhD -- will this plan work?

tm_master is giving good advice, especially about how long it might take.

There's nothing wrong with picking up the lower level math courses at a community college, so long as you are sure that...
