Re: MRes as bridge to the PhD

    Professor Schindler,

I wasn't talking about Tilburg in specific but Mres programs in general (from the students that I have spoken to in various Mres programs).

    Re: Economics Rankings

Tilburg's rankings do not even make sense. It is a horrible gauge in measuring department strength. As one can see, it is severely off from USnews and Repecs...

Re: MRes as bridge to the PhD

Mres programs are a bad idea. Most are eager to keep their students and hesitate to write LORs when applying to other schools.

Re: Are grad math courses worth it?

No problem. Also, once you start the your MA in Econ programme, make sure to consult with the faculty there(and show them your profile). I think your A's in Analysis I, II, LA I/II leaves no concerns...

Re: Are grad math courses worth it?

Looking at your profile evaluation thread, it seems like you are interested in pursuing a PhD in Finance. Is that correct? If so, your best bet is to post in the Business PhD thread (As they can...

Re: Profile Eval & Where Should I Aim?

You should speak with your letter writers ASAP if you are applying this fall and ask them these questions. Based on where they sent their students in the recents years, only they can give a healthy...

    Re: Fall 2021 Profile Evaluation

I think you have a good sense on what is achievable in terms of rank(but also ask your professors about it). It would be preferred if you could get LORs from 3 Economists.

    Also, assuming B+ is a...

Re: Profile Eval & Where Should I Aim?

Anyone giving advice in this forum should refrain giving advice from what they think is right. Urch is especially a refuge for those coming from unranked programs as they don't have access to high...

Re: Profile Eval & Where Should I Aim?

This is completely delusional, unrealistic and horrible advice. One certainly cannot publish a paper without going through the necessary PhD courses and training. No school expects you to have a...

Re: Profile Eval & Where Should I Aim?

What is meant by Research Experience is being an RA to an active researcher. Independent research/thesis holds little value (as most are never read).

Re: Profile Eval & Where Should I Aim?

Advanced Calculus is Real Analysis. It is not advisable to delude the applicant. Top 20 is beyond reach coming from an unranked program with no research experience or strong letters.
  15. Re: Should I just pretend I haven't done this master's (because of my grades in it)?

I highly agree with tutonic. Also, why would your professors would write you good letters if you were an inch away from failing? These are all important questions you need to ask yourself. A...
