My Target Scores

 1. I am taking the GRE on Dec 14, so I don't think I'll have the official scores back in time for the Dec 17 deadline application for LSE. The GRE scores on the application are self reported so I will be able to enter my Q and V scores but for the Analytical section I won't know until 10-15 days after the 14th, it won't let me apply unless I put something down there so what should I do? Is my only hope to just guess what I'm going to get on the analytical section and pray the actual results match my guess?
 2. Hello!! if anyone could give me feedback on this issue task essay it would be awesome. Thank you so much in advance. To understand the most important characteristics of a society, one must study its major cities. Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position. Characteristics of a society: Culture, Religion, Political. Opinion: True but not totally. Reasons: Culture in the rural area of the country. Although it is true that many of a society’s characteristics can be evidenced by studying its major cities, leaving out minor cities or towns might produce a biased result originating a misconception. Some of the most important characteristics of a society are culture, religion and politics. And all three may vary greatly depending on the location of study. A society’s culture can be almost fully understood by studying the major cities since its were people from many parts of the country come together. The only problem is that when so many traditions get mixed, the original essence of culture is lost. People are so lost in a sea of traditions that no one holds a unique identity anymore. This can be evidenced in Colombia, Cali is one of its major cities and serves as home for people from all over the country and abroad. Some may argue that Cali displays the whole cultural spectrum of the country, but the truth is that Salsa is not the most important component of Colombian culture. One would have to travel to Salento or Manizales which are both small towns in order to pickup coffee from the fields or listen to traditional stories since Cali offers neither. Moreover, religion has been shifting greatly in the last few years. Globalization and access to information has made people more critic. This along with news that damage the catholic church reputation has created a wave of skepticism in major cities where studied people live. This is not the case for small towns and minor cities were the church influence might be far too great and people may not be as informed as in major cities. For instance, the religious point of view might be very different in Cali when compared to Buga which is a small town greatly known for its church which is said to hold a religious treasure from times past. Contrary to the statement, the political view of a country is not determined by the political view of the major cities. In Colombia people from the cities wished for a more socialist government which would concentrate its efforts on education and keeping the newly acquired peace. On the other hand, people from the countryside wished for a far right government which would attack rebel groups that constantly produce violence. Therefore, although major cities do hold a large number of people which can provide an idea of a society’s most important characteristics. It is unwise to leave towns and minor cities out of the picture, since it is thanks to the little details given by them that a society’s characteristics can be truly understood.
 3. Hi everyone, I recently discovered this forum and I was so puzzled how I went through most of my preparation without it... I have started to practise essays a month before my exam, please find below on I wrote recently. I am looking for another persons opinion on grading my essay: Topic: Governments should place few, if any, restrictions on scientific research and development. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the recommendation and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, describe specific circumstances in which adopting the recommendation would or would not be advantageous and explain how these examples shape your position. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The statement that governments should limit the scientific research and development by imposing restrictions is a widely discussed and controversial topic with the advent of technology in the 20 century. On one hand limiting research in specific areas can prove to decrease the amount of scientific innovations. Considering the intricate and complex harmony in which science is developed this can affect seemingly adjacent areas. However, limitations can also be beneficial as technological breakthroughs can seldom provide more problems to humanity. Some of the most appreciated technologies might have not been discovered if certain limits were placed on scientific research and innovation. Nevertheless, it is more beneficial to science and humanity that certain limits are imposed. Innovation in science can take many forms - it can come from a discovery of a new mathematical formulation all the way to the development of a water channel to ease transport. The reason for this is that it is a very intricate network of discrete events each contributing to the discovery of another. These unforgeable events can sometimes lead to major scientific innovations in different fields of research and industries. The research in space exploration has always been controversial due to the high risk for the loss of human life or the exorbitant costs associated with construction and atmospheric launch. However, if limitations were imposed on the mid 20 century space exploration then all the innovations and discoveries would not have taken place. The result would be that the new technology would have never entered the commercial aircraft market and the most common method of transport associated with today's age, the aircraft, would not have been able to transform the world towards the greater good. On the other hand, considering that if science and innovation are left unchecked it might cause a greater problem. The speed with which technology is progressing means that in the very near future with the improvements in 3D printing technology it will be possible to synthesise proteins. It is feared by governments that if this was to become a widely accessible technology then everyone would be able to create viruses and diseases with the clicks of a few buttons. Furthermore, with the creation of the nuclear technology in the mid 20 century a new type of weapon with execrable disastrous power was made possible. The notorious power of the nuclear bomb is the most famous example of a technology developed to better the life of people that can be used in a completely opposite and destructive way. Therefore, numerous governmental control bodies exist that monitor how nuclear and biological technologies are developed and imposes limits where it considers it appropriate. It can be seen that even though this is making research more difficult it is still increasing exponentially. Proving that if the restrictions are reasonable than dangerous exploitation of technology can be avoided and the scientific progress can avoid being halted. In conclusion, it can be seen that imposing limitations of scientific research and development would not create problems if it is done with reason. It is therefore considered reasonable that a governmental body with world experts in charge can determine the most optimal way that innovations of a certain technology are limited to provide the best scientific progress and avoid dangerous circumstanced to humanity.
 4. Hello Everyone, Can someone please review my analytical issue essay. I am writing it for first time and have my GRE exam scheduled for next week. I would really appreciate if someone can let me know the areas of improvement. Topic : Techcorporation is our top pick for investment this term. We urge all of our clients to invest in the new company. FOr the first time in ten years, a compnay that has developed satellite technology has been approved by FTA to complete with the current satellite provider. That company is Techcorporation. A consumer survey last year indicated that over eighty percent of repondants were dissatisfied with the current satellite television provider and would want to switch to another provider if the industry were not a monopoly. Thus, the new venture of Techcorporation into satellite television will prove to be highly profitabe for those who invest now. The article that appeared in a newsletter advices investors to make a blind invetment in techcorporation. The reason behind this is that, it is the only company in 10years to hav edeveloped a technology that has been approved by the FTA to cpete with the current satellite provider. Also a survey claims that eighty percent users were dissatisfied with the current satellite provider and would like to switch to another one. However, this advice seems to be flawed, as there is no strong evidence that would support this claim. The newsletter article states that for the first time in 10 years , a satellite built by a comapany has been approved by the FTA. However this statement cannot be blindly accepted. Eventhough the satellite might have been accepted by the FTA there is no guarantee that the satellite would live upto its expectations. As there has absolutely been no strong competitor in the past 10 years, there is no assurance that Techcorporation would succeed as a satellite provider inspite of their satellite being approved. Also the survey which indicated that 80% of the respondents were dissatisfied with their current satellite provider does not shed light towards the place the survey was conducted, the sample size, the survey questions. It could be that this opinion would be limited to only a small geographical area and the rest of the population would be happy with their current service provider. The newsletter article also doesnot take into account techcorporation's experience in the field. Inspite of developing a satellite, the might not have the means or the experience it convert it into a viable satellite television provider. Some data has to be provided regarding the schemes they offer, their execution plan, their stock prices which is vital for investors. Since no strong support data has been provided it is not wise to invest into techcorporation simply based on the newsletter. Proper statistical data has to be provided, only then should investors think of investing or else they could be digging their own grave. Thank you for your feedback.
 5. Hello Everyone, Can someone please review my analytical issue essay. I am writing it for first time and have my GRE exam scheduled for next week. I would really appreciate if someone can let me know the areas of improvement. Topic : Sports stars and movie stars have an obligation to behave as role models for young people who look up to them. In return for millions of dollars that they are paid, we should except them to fulfil this societal responsibility. The issue of sports stars and movie starts being the role model and idols is a conspicous; and is also subjected to diffirent opition. Mass venerate the stars and idolizes them; following many things stars do and don't. I believe more that stars it is the media that laud the stars. Like the brand ambassodors of the advertising companies are some exalt stars. Young people follow what they like; and many a times they exonerate their actions by saying they did what their role model did. But is the role model really resopndible to the person's action? Role Model is not only someone to be followed but the role model also correct the mistakes when done. If stars are considered as role models; there is not communication between both and so how is the other person reponsible to one's behaviour or action. Todays young generation is smart and has the scrupulous ability to determine their actions. Stars as paid for their work. Sports stars undergo regerous training to maintain their standards and to be on top that bring value to the country; movie stars act day and night to finish their project; which contributes to the entertainment segment. Other than the stars there are many enterprenuers; business tycoons who earn millions of dollars; so even become reponsible for acting as the role model for young genreations. Then why only stars have the obligation to be fulfilied. It not reponsiblity of everyone one to guide the young generation; Stars can communicate to the mass; but expecting only one person to fulfill the duty is not justifiable. Thank you for you feedback.
 6.

** Note: Explanations for scoring would be much appreciated! Prompt: "The market for the luxury-goods industry is on the decline. Recent reports show that a higher unemployment rate, coupled with consumer fears, has decreased the amount of money the average household spends on both essential and nonessential items, but especially on nonessential items. Since luxury goods are, by nature, nonessential, this market will be the first to decrease in the present economic climate, and luxury retailers should refocus their attention to lower-priced markets." The argument that luxury retailers should divert their attention to lower-priced markets is logically unconvincing due to its reliance on flawed assumptions. In fact three especially egregious logical errors bear negatively on the argument's reasoning, including a mistaken analogy, uncertain causation, and an unsupported extreme premise. First the argument cites recent reports of a decline in the amount of money being spent particularly on nonessential items as support for the conclusion that the luxury market is on the decline. However, it is unclear whether the report even included any information on the average household's spending habits regarding luxury items. Although luxury goods ostensibly can be considered nonessential items, such a classification does not logically entail that they were included in the report on the average household's nonessential item spending. In fact, it's possible that the report only included information on the consumption of particular nonessential items, which might not have even included luxury items at all, and thus we would be unable to make any reasonable conclusion about the luxury market. Therefore, in order for the author to strengthen his or her argument, it is necessary that he or she include evidence for a decrease in the average household's spending on luxury items, specifically. Moreover, even if we assume luxury items were considered apart of the nonessential items in the report, the argument's conclusion still relies on tenuous support. For instance, the author argues that luxury retailers should divert their attention to lower-priced markets, however, it is unclear if this would even be beneficial given the evidence the author provides. If consumers have indeed decreased the amount of money they are spending on luxury items, how much have they decreased? Are they still spending enough to purchase luxury goods at their current selling price? Will lowering that selling price actually improve the economic profits of luxury retailers? If the average household is still spending enough on luxury goods to afford their current selling price, it does not logically follow that lowering that selling price will make them purchase any more than they already are. For the author to effectively argue that luxury retailers should focus on lower-priced markets, he or she needs to provide evidence that shows that the average household's budget does not allow them to afford current luxury item sale prices. Finally, the author embarks on the extreme, and unfounded, intermediate conclusion that the luxury market will be the first to decline in the current economic climate. Even if all of the other unstated assumptions of the argument can be found supported and spending on luxury items is actually decreasing, we are given no adequate evidence that the luxury market will be the first nonessential market to be hit by the economic downturn. Perhaps other nonessential item markets will suffer, but then the unemployment rate will increase and consumers' fears will be ameliorated, and the luxury market will never even experience any losses. For the author to effectively express this line of reasoning, he or she would have to demonstrate that when the average household's spending is decreasing, the first place budget cuts are made are on the household's luxury spending. Only then could there be evidence that the luxury market will be hit first, and a more compelling reason for luxury retailers to refocus on lower-priced markets. In conclusion, the author fails to logically argue that luxury retailers should focus on lower-priced markets as opposed to their current market. Due to the flawed analogy, vague assumptions of causation, and an unsupported extreme line of reasoning, the argument made is neither cogent nor effective.
