  1. The best ideas arise from a passionate interest in commonplace things Indeed, ordinary matters can arouse one’s emotions, leading to the creation of extraordinary products. Passionate interests can be assumed as talent. Everyone has different passions, thus, different talents in the world. In particular, these are seen with artists, musicians, and inventors, who seem especially interested and driven by various ordinary stimuli. The product that comes out of these are their works of art, music, and inventions, all of which are inspired by seemingly mundane tribulations. One such iconic figure today who made millions converting everyday struggles into works of art is Taylor Swift. It is said that each of her song is inspired by her relationships with men. For example, the song “we are never ever ever getting back together” describes her final sentiments about a relationship that keeps bouncing in and out of a breakup while “blank space” describes the craziness that would come from jealousy as a result of insecurity. Obviously, relationships are hard and create a different mix of emotions for everyone. These emotions can be expressed in many different ways but for Taylor Swift, her passionate interest, or talent, enables her to write songs about them. Similarly, Beethoven wrote beautiful and timeless piano music to express his emotions towards commonplace things. For instance, his “Moonlight Sonata” is inspired by the moon while his piece fast paced piece “rage over a lost penny” is inspired by such. To the layman, the moonlight and a lost penny don’t really stir much emotions and are usually unexciting events in one’s humdrum life. But for Beethoven, such matters stirred his passionate interests and, with his music writing talent, allowed him to create masterpieces. Not everyone can do what he did. The ‘best ideas’ can also arise from passionate interests created by need. One day, someone became tired of walking, washing the dishes and clothes by hand, and having to heat up food through the stove. The emotions created by these ‘commonplace things’ enabled the inventor to create the carriage, dishwasher, washing machine, and microwave, respectively. One of the greatest invention of our time is the lightbulb by Thomas Edison. One can assume that he really wanted to use a device more efficient than candlelight to maneuver his way through the dark. Thus, came his beautiful product, after countless trial and error. It may seem that before these inventions, no one had ever been hassled by such commonplace things as doing daily chores and whatnot. But some people, inventors, came along and, with their passions, produced some of the best ideas that would forever benefit mankind. Many people exemplify the idea that passion creates beautiful products inspired by ordinary mundane things. We can see this through the work of artists, musicians, and inventors. They have special interests where the layman may not. It is crucial that they exist because without them, human kind would not progress and advance in its evolution.
  2. 1. A nation should require all of its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college. Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the recommendation and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, describe specific circumstances in which adopting the recommendation would or would not be advantageous and explain how these examples shape your position. ===================================================== To study with one identical curriculum for the whole country is a good idea for a government not to adapt any changes with existing curriculum that they already have to avoid any spending national budget to improve it. However, if we talk about a subjects curriculums whether it is a general one which promote students in general subjects or a specific separate curriculums which can specialize students to a particular fields when they enter colleges, and i think the nation curriculum should not be all the same for everyone. Frist of all, each school should orient students to focus on curriculum that they like or very good at. Such separate curriculums and the subjects that a school teach is helping students to decide what they fond of before enter colleges. For example, a student who is good at real science such as math and physics, he should be given a choice to focus on a curriculum that take him to a field of math or physics-related in the future if he is also interested in it. The school can help a student to develop a student's hidden skill into his real talent. However, if a student is not good in any calculations or memorizing subjects but he is good at sports, a school should also provide him with less curriculum on any subject involving with much of calculations but help him to focus more on any extra activities outdoor. Moreover, students who do not know what they are good at or what they like before college, they can decide here by choosing a variety of curriculums that provide him the most preference and satisfaction. Thus, sometimes to study every same subjects is boring if a student is not fond of that particular lesson. Choosing or being provided different curriculums to student especially when they enter secondary school is a good way for students to find their field of interests. On the one side, if we talk about the same curriculums within a country regardless numbers of different types apply to every school, it would benefit to students for some ways. Students have no worries about changing schools when there house or family move from one place to others. In this position, the same curriculum in this context mean if one school in city have five different curriculum, other provinces also have those five standards. In conclusion, a nation should require all school to have the same curriculums but not require students to study the same things everywhere in the countries because a student cannot prepare for his specialize skill before he enters a college. Moreover, to require students to students all the same things make student not flexible enough for their future career. Thus, a country should provide identical curriculum to all schools but not require students to study the subjects before they enter college.
  3. Thanks in advance for your opinion! See the question and my response below: Some people believe it is often necessary, even desirable, for political leaders to withhold information from the public. Others believe that the public has a right to be fully informed.Write a response in which you discuss which view more closely aligns with your own position and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should address both of the views presented.' RESPONSE: In evaluating whether it is necessary or perhaps even preferable for information to be withheld from the public by the leaders who influence and determine the political landscape of a community or a nation, it is first necessary to establish that each point of view can be supported by relevant facts and arguments, ultimately lending its way to a happy medium, or a balance between the two arguments. If an argument is bounded either by extreme belief that policy making should be an open forum for all to participate in, or even the opposite view that nobody should ever be entitled to information regarding policy making by their very own elected officials, the argument is likely to be excluding very valuable pieces of information. That being said, the view that allows for the most rational and viable form of communication and discussion bounded by democratic principles is certainly the latter view that the public has the right to be fully informed on political issues. Before rationalizing one's support this view, it is important to clarify that a few assumptions must be made: perhaps it is common knowledge that this society is a democratic one that freely elected the political decision makers who are expected to perform their duties in good faith and in the best interest of the people they were chosen by to make certain decisions. In support of allowing for an open forum of communication in the area of policial decision making, it is clear that one of the most important aspects of running a successful democratic government is being open with the community, promoting healthy discussion of issues, sharing opinions with each other, and allowing multiple stakeholders to express their interests in the issue at hand. For example, if there is a plan to change the infrastructure in the city, it will have major implications on many stakeholders, and it is important for effective political leaders to understand the concerns of many if not all of them before making a brash decision. To clarify, say the infrastructure manipulation plan is meant to improve the quality of life for everyone in a particular town. The goals are to rebuild housing and public transportation systems. While political decision makers see the ultimate outcome of "improved quality of life and opportunity for increased tourism and economic growth in the long run," other stakeholders, such as commuters to work, mother's of young children, and teachers and school board directors respectively might think of shorter term consequences of this plan: increased commute times to work due to construction and thus lost productivity due to frustration on the road and less time to sleep; loud construction throughout the day that disturbs and perhaps upsets young children; and similarly, a combination of increased traffic for school buses and loud noise that might inhibit the learning of students in the schools of these communities. If mulitple stakeholders cannot express their concerns on these matters because all information is being withheld from them, it creates a scenario in which the long term health of the community will deteriorate, even if the goals had much better intentions initially. Of course it is important to recognize the merits of the other side of the argument: most people don't have as good of an understanding of the economic implications of certain plans than, say, an economic chairperson hand selected by political officials. These are people who have successfully implemented such plans before and would only suffer in an enviroment in which multiple and, perhaps, uninformed stakeholders are showering them with their opinions and viewpoints that might not lead to the best solution in the long run. That being said, there just are not many more viable arguments to support withholding absolutely all information from the public. In conclusion, under the assumption that we are operating in a democratic society, the view that the public has the right to be fully informed trumps the alternative that they should not have access to any information.
  4. This is my first practice AWA task. Any feedback will be appreciated. As people rely more and more on technology to solve problems, the ability of humans to think for themselves will surely deteriorate. Discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position. Here is my response : While technological advances over the last century have catapaulted mankind from the age when Blackberry and Apple were just fruits to present day where they are much more than just fruits, reliying on technology for more and more tasks has deteriorated our ability to think and analyze. It is without doubt that we stand at the acme of our understanding of the world as we know it today. Computers have aided us in exploring the universe. There has been tremendous improvement in medicare over the last few decades. Aircraft have changed the way we travel. The internet has changed the way we access information and connect with people across the world. Flying has become a lot more efficient because of advances in technology. The most far reaching impact that advances in technology has on humans is that it takes the responsibility of doing the repetitive, mundane tasks and free up time for us to think of other more profound and complex problems. But this is where the problem lies. Humans have, over the years, ushered in technology into almost every aspect of their lives to do tasks for them. This leaves little to no task that humans want to perform on their own. This inhenrent tendency to delegate tasks to gains in technology has impaired their thinking. High School students have noticed an average drop of grades in maths due to their perpetual reliance on calculators and internet to complete their assignments. With the rise of the internet, the availability of information has improved drastically. One can access any text, story, or a fact at the touch of a few buttons. This availability of information while good has over the years reduced our information retention capacity. Thus humans spend more time looking up the same thing again. Thus, the advantage of freeing up time from routine, repetitive tasks seems to be lost. Things take a more sinister turn when human lives are at stake. It is no doubt that the introduction of computers in cockpits have made flights much safer and efficient. However, automating the entire job of the pilot makes him less attentive while flying. In the case of Air France flight 447, which crashed over the Atlantic Ocean, pilots were caught unaware of the condition of the plane when due to bad weather, the autopilot suddnely turned off leaving the plane and the lives of 249 people in the hand of a pilot who was caught unaware and could not control the aircraft. The tragedy of the Air France flight 447 is a stark reminder of how technology can impair our ability to think. Thus, while reliance on technology has no doubt improved our way of life and brought about many positive impacts in our lives we must not rely on it for every trivial task we encounter lest, when technology fails, we are caught unaware with no practise nor ability to think and analyse.
  5. Hi, I have written my first Analyse an Issue task and would like to get your valuable feedback on the same. This is my first essay in an attempt to improve and write more. Please suggest me how can I improve upon my writing skills and if you can evaluate me for this essay. I tried separating paragraphs by some additional spaces but It doesn't work. Any ideas why? I have added numbering for simplicity in understanding paragraph changes. Topic : "To understand the most important characteristics of a society, one must study its major cities." 1.A society, according to me, is an amalgamation of people, their beliefs and ethics, and their variegated lifestyles; living harmoniously and practicing their traditions, which have been temporally accepted by the group. Most of these variations can be attributed to the geographical, and more importantly, the demographic aspects of a region. When we talk about a region as a whole, the demographics play a key role in studying the prominent characteristics of diverse societal groups. 2.Over a period of time, societies have emerged and a foundation has been laid for those who are a part of it. So, when we talk about two societies that are miles away in a country like India, how would we be able to distinguish them? The first logical assertion would be by asking, “To which region do these people belong?” This classification gives us a clear picture that, by studying a region we can learn the traditions, beliefs and customs, and the characteristics of a society. 3.To understand the different aspects of a society, a large population needs to be studied. Let us consider an example of two major cities, New Delhi and Mumbai, both of which are the national and commercial capitals of India. Both these cities have a population of over a million people and a variegated cultural and societal patterns. Some of the common characteristics of both these cities include people who are mostly are religious and sentimental. Society is divided into classes based on the economic status of people living in these places. People acknowledge the fact that, to be a part of the society, they have to bind themselves to the temporal beliefs and customs that have been setup by their linage. 4. Although one can perceive many common characteristics of a society just by studying the demographic divide of a region, there are some differences that might arise by just studying the major cities; some of them being very subtle once and the others might be totally contrasting attributes. It is best in this case, to diversify the parameters for understanding these characteristics and give a less weightage to the demographic aspect. If we consider the example in the preceding paragraph, in a country like India, political influence needs to be attributed before deciding on some general traits of the societies. 5.On the whole, based on the discussion above, it is fairly evident that by studying the major cities, most of the inherent characteristics of societies can be well understood and explained. After all it is we human beings who have formed societies, civilizations and cities over time. It is definitely a start and can form a base for further understanding of these societies.
