Hi everyone -- I'm applying to programs this fall, aiming for a top school in OB/Management. I just took the GRE and feel like it's a strong score, but was a little lower than I was hoping for. I'm thinking I'll retake it just to see if, but I'm hoping for some feedback. I got 162 V and 165 Q -- haven't received my writing score yet, but I'm anticipating a solid score. I know competitiveness depends on other factors, so here is some info on the other pieces: I've been working for a while, but I have a fair amount of research experience: 2 psychology labs in undergrad and 4 management projects over the last year or so. For my LORs, I have 2 full professors with excellent reputations and 1 associate prof. I'll have one publication in a B/B+ journal with 3 reputable co-authors and 1 conference presentation with a top prof. Undergrad GPA is 3.5 from Michigan -- not great, but not terrible (3.9 upper division which I am listing on my CV...hoping this helps show that my first year or so was not especially great but I pulled things together!). Bottom line: if I'm aiming for Michigan/Stanford/MIT-type schools, should I retake and try for a higher score? Thanks for the help!

Hi everyone, I’m considering applying for the 2019 round at top 15s and would appreciate a profile review. The thing that concerns me the most is my grade in linear algebra, and I don’t know if the rest of my profile is strong enough to overcome my low grade in LA. UG: US Top 50 GPA: 3.9 Grad: Europe Top 10 GPA: 4.0 GRE: 168/166/5.0 Econ Courses: Micro (A+), Macro (A-), Experimental (A+), Environmental (A+), Urban (A+), Health (A+), Developmental (A+), Econometrics (A+), Grad Econometrics (A+), etc. (all A or A+) Math Courses: Calc 1 (A), Calc 2 (A), Calc 3 (A), Linear Algebra (B), Real Analysis (A+), Time Series (A), Math Stats (A) TA/RA: Summer Independent Research with UG prof, 1 year TA at Grad Uni, 6 months RA at Grad Uni, 1 year RA (think NBER) Recommendations: From above RA/TA Professors

I'm an third-year econ major. Have taken math courses including advanced calculus I-III, advanced algebra I-III, mathematical statistics I-II, and probability theory I-II. Unfortunately my school doesn't allow us to take more advanced ones such as real analysis. So I'm thinking about taking GRE math sub later. How helpful is it in econ phd application, for someone without a strong background in math (like me)? Thanks.

Hi, I'm a French applicant, 24 yo, currently studying sociology in the UK. My research interests have gradually shifted from macro OB and sociology to social/cognitive psychology and consumer behavior... Therefore my current interests are especially emotional decision-making, numerical cognition, categorization. I should apply this year to a few elite business schools, before applying more widely for the 2015 intake. Reaches: Kellogg's, Booth, INSEAD, Ross, Stern Targets: Rotman, USC, Yale SOM, HEC, Texas-McCombs, RSM Rotterdam, Tillburg, maybe UBC. Safety: ESSEC, some T50 US schools (Arizona State-Carey, U.Florida...). Education: - French Ecole normale supérieure de Cachan (one of the very top research school in France). Admitted after competitive entrance exam, 4th nation-wide. B.A equivalent in Economics and Business, 13/20, middle of the pack. M.A in Business Economics, specialization in marketing, actually a prep course to the "Agrégation", the highest French teaching certificate (high-school/college level) in Economics and Business, 4th nation-wide (one more time!). 12,7/20 but big grade deflation. Actually, 1/3 of the program was about marketing... Full fellowship + stipend for 4 years of undergrad and graduate studies. - in the meantime, Bachelor and 1st year of master in Law, University of Rennes. Bachelor: 11/20 ; Maitrise: 13/20 (top 10 or 15%) - currently, MPhil in Sociology, U. of Cambridge (still funded by the Ecole normale supérieure). Test scores: - GRE: 164Q, 162V, 4.0AW. Taken with very little preparation, to be retaken, aiming at 167Q/164V. - TOEFL (if this requirement is not waived): 105. Research experience: - close to nonexistent. Master's thesis during my masters in Law (but supervised at the Ecole normale supérieure de Cachan), dealing with Antitrust Law and Economics. Grade equivalent to A+. MPhil disseration to be completed this year. No relevant work experience LORs: - reasonably strong letters from professors in my previous schools, including one marketing professor. However they are relatively unknown people, with little experience in writing US-style LORs. It is still too early for me to be recommended by my Cambridge professors for this year's applications - I just arrived one month ago. To sum up: Pros: academic background + grades. Cons: recommendations (unknown people), poor research experience, sociology MPhil somewhat inconsistent with my current interests. Neutral: GRE. Do I have a decent shot at T10 programs? US T20 ? Where should I apply? Thank you very much!

Hi everyone, I'm new to the board and I'm looking for some input on my application profile. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Here are my stats: School: large public university in Canada Year: Entering fourth year, applying to graduate programs this fall Major: Psychology (Research stream) overall GPA: 3.87 / 4 psychology GPA: 3.98 GRE: 800Q, 650V (haven't received AW score yet) - did not write GMAT research experience: 3 years of research assistant experience in psychology labs and an OB lab at a large business school, multiple research projects, will complete thesis in 4th year no publications (but will possibly have one in submission by the time I apply, if that matters) Letters of recommendation: 3 good-to-great letters, 2 from professors, one from a postdoc My research interests are in OB, and i'm wondering how competitive my stats would be for PhD programs in OB at business schools. Are programs at top schools like Harvard, Stanford, and Tepper realistic for me? How competitive would I be for business schools in Canada (i.e. Ivey, Rotman)? I sincerely thank you for your time and advice.
