Guidance on choosing research areas
wetwilly posted a topic in PhD in BusinessHello friends, I am a Junior hoping to pursue a PhD in quant marketing and have some questions on research areas. Like everyone else still in undergrad, I am grappling with a variety of concerns about my application profile, but I still have a good chunk of school to do. My main concern is trying to narrow down a specific area of research within quant marketing. Fortunately, the professors I have been speaking with have been able to help me understand the importance of program fit as opposed to going for the highest ranked program I can get into, but this has also compelled me to try to find an area or direction sooner than later. I currently work as a research assistant for a quant professor, and though my experience with him has been very rewarding, most of his work revolves around research methodology. Methodology has never appealed to me much; I was originally considering taking the CB track because I found the problems and questions in that area very interesting. However, I enjoy the quantitative approach to these problems rather than the psychology/neuroscience approach. My hope is to be able to coauthor/publish research by the end of undergrad, which will also fulfill an Honors thesis requirement. Covid has made contacting professors difficult to say the least, so I haven't had much exposure to other areas of research, but I plan to change that this semester. I anticipate that my interactions with them will be very formative in helping me choose an area/direction, but I still wanted to ask you all about your experiences with choosing research areas. More specific questions include: -What has been your timeline for narrowing down research questions? -How do you balance your personal interests with popular/trending subjects? -Is the quality of a PhD program fit more related to the actual research subject matter or the methodology/approach to questions? Thank you for your time reading and responding in advance, and apologies for anything poorly worded or confusing--I am happy to clarify.
Research unrelated to program concentration
EUU posted a topic in PhD in BusinessHey friendzzzz I'm just curious if it's a bad idea to write a little bit about some research stuff in an area of concentration that seems not that much related to accounting? :watermelon::peach::strawberry:
Hi Folks, I am looking for recommendation for PhD courses with focus area in Compensation. Relevant Research Experience
IDWILTD posted a topic in PhD in BusinessI'm a Ph.D. aspirant in the area of finance. I'm finding it very difficult to get RA work in my country. I just want to know how important is to have RA work experience in the relevant area and what if someone does RA in some other area, would that be helpful. I mean if someone does RA in let say strategy area which involves data collection, analysis and report writing using python and basic econometrics, would this RA be helpful in the area of finance. I would be very thankful if someone could provide me any suggestion?

Interview help, how well should I research interviewers?
TaxGal posted a topic in PhD in BusinessCan’t believe I already have an interview invite and it’s from a school that was probably in my top 5 picks. Anyway it’s tomorrow evening over skype and I was giving the names of who will be interviewing me. The looked up the professor and read his CV but do I need to do more? He’s in an area different than what I want to go into so I didn’t know if I should try to find and skim a journal article or anything beforehand. With such short notice I don’t even know what to focus on.
Tough Math GRE question - please help
coolclisto posted a topic in GRE MathQuestion from Master the GRE, Petersons Book 2010 -Part VI - Exercise 16 Once a month, a crop duster sprays a triangular area defined by three farm houses: A, B, and C, as indicated in the figure. Farmhouse C is located 7 kilometers due east of farmhouse B, as shown. If farmhouse A is located 10 kilometers further west than farmhouse C, what is the total area that the crop duster sprays? I don't understand how the triangle is developed. I figure the location of the three A, B and C on a line, so where does the height come from?
srog12 posted a topic in IntroductionsHi all. New to the site so this is my first post. I was wondering if any of you had any input on the matter. I'm strongly considering applying into PhD programs next fall. Fall 2018. I currently have 1 year experience in tax in big 4 public accounting. I have my CPA completed. I had a 3.73 undergrad GPA, GMAT i haven't taken yet but say I get 650ish. I was wondering about my chances of being admitted into a PhD program and what I can do between now and next Fall to bolster my chances. I live around the Philadelphia area and would most likely apply to schools in the PA area as well as in MD, NJ, NY, etc. Would it be beneficial to get a CMA? Seems like I could knock that out in about 4 months ? Thanks all for your input.
Katie Delaney posted a topic in GRE MathI've got two questions that I can't seem to figure out. For question 10 in the GRE math review for chapter 3, the question asks: For rectangle ABCD below, AB = 5, AF = 7, and FD = 3, find the following: (a) Area of ABCD (b) Area of triangle AEF © Length of BD (d) Perimeter of ABCD letters a,c,d I've got but I really don't know how to find b For question 11 in chapter 3, the questions asks: In the parallelogram ABCD below, find the following: (a) Area of ABCD (b) Perimeter of ABCD © Length of diagonal BD letters a and b I've got but I can't figure out c any help would be greatly appreciated!
1. A : The number of seconds in 7 hours. B : The number of hours in 52 weeks. I. A is greater II. B is greater III. Both Equal IV. Can't be determined Ans. 2. The area of one face of the cube is 35. A: Total surface area of the cube B: Total volume of the cube Ans. I have doubts in these questions as follows. 1. A = 25200 seconds B = 8736 Hours The answer is A. How can we say that 25200 seconds are greater than 8736 hours ? If we convert the second quantity in the equivalent seconds then the Answer becomes B. My answer was B. Please explain. 2. A = 210 meter square B = 207.06 meter cube The answer is again A. How can we compare a surface area to the volume ? My answer was D. Please explain these to me. These problems got me stumped. Thanks in advanced.
