Hello, I have been admitted to the MSc Economics at Barcelona GSE and UC3M. Both are one-year long courses. Issue: I got no funding. And Barcelona costs twice as much as UC3M. I know Barcelona GSE is generally seen "better" than UC3M, hence why I want to know how much better Barcelona is than UC3M and whether such prestige gap is worth paying twice as much. Interests: Econometrics and Macroeconomics. Which course would you opt for if you were in my position? Which is a better option if I decide to apply for a PhD in the future? Which is one is better for the private sector? Thanks in advance

Hi all, Got accepted to both programs in economics. Barcelona offers tuition waiver and Tinbergen offers tuition waiver+1060 euros monthly stipend. Barcelona seems to be a more praised school but I have no idea what is the continuation ratio to UPF from there (which I would prefer). I have found scarce comments on Tinbergen but it is almost certain you can continue studying for PhD there if you perform well enough. Also they give enough to cover my living expanses, which is amazing. I am leaning towards Tinbergen but also I am very confused. I am particularly interested in studying econometrics (preferably applied). Any help and comments would be appreciated; I am in need of serious help!

Hi, I have been admitted to Barcelona Graduate School's masters in economic program with full tuition waiver. When I researched I have seen that it has been highly praised for its macro classes. However I couldn't find any information on how it stands in econometrics. I would like to pursue a PhD afterwards (maybe in Upf if I can perform good enough) and I would like to do something in econometrics. I would be really grateful if you can share your thoughts or experience :)

Barcelona GSE has really good placements for econ PhDs but does anyone know if their Finance program is any good for getting placed in finance PhDs in the US and Canada? My original plan was to get an econ masters from there with some finance electives and then do financial econ, but they rejected me and offered me a place on their finance program. So I'm really confused now if this program will cut it. The placements for 2015-17 are given here. There aren't many PhDs in the list but I think that could be because most people doing finance are only interested in getting jobs. Also the class size for finance is only around 25. Would really appreciate some input from you guys.

Hello everyone. Last year I was finishing my degree in Economics (in a normal university of Spain, not Madrid or Barcelona) and I applied to Barcelona GSE, in Economics Program (1st choice), and I was admitted, I declined because I wasn't sure at all and I wanted think it better. Now after thinking in my interests (public economics, topics like taxes, inequality, welfare state and that kind of things) I believe that Economics of Public Policy Program it would be better for me, I think is easier than Economics and I've seen the placements https://www.barcelonagse.eu/sites/default/files/placement-public-policy.pdf and they seem good, in institutions where I would like to work, I think. Moreover some people does a PHD after, even it's not the economics program, so if doing it I realise that I want to do a PHD I still could. So, do you think it is worth? Are there other similar masters in Europe? Better ones? Money is not a problem, but of course I don't want to spend 16.000 € if I don't see a profit in the long term or if there are better options and cheaper.. Thank you all.

Hi, I got a really difficult choice to make and I would appreciate your help. I got into MPhil Economics at Oxford, but I'm afraid that I won't be able to attend the program (financial reasons, obviously...). Now, I'm trying to figure out what would be the best second choice. I got into LSE, but I would have to do 2-year program which is also very very expensive (+ living in London) so I'm basically left with a choice between Warwick and Barcelona GSE. I got a full tuition waiver from Barcelona and I would have to pay for Warwick, but because they are both 1-year programs finance shouldn't be an issue. At first I was leaning towards Barcelona, but I heard some terrible things about how difficult the program is (I will work hard, but I'm afraid that it will be impossible to get excellent grades). Plus I'm very micro/labour oriented so Barcelona may not be the best place for me. My goal would be to do an applied micro PhD at LSE/Oxford/UCL (maybe the US). So my question is: which school would increase my chances of getting a PhD offer? I know that Warwick is in the middle of nowhere and I would rather live in Barcelona, but I would be willing to spend a year there if that's the best decision. Thanks!

My goal is to obtain a PhD but I got rejected from all the programs I applied to. My strategy will be to do a Masters and then reapply for PhD programs. I recently got a very nice fully-funded offer from SFU. However, I also have a meager-funded offer from BGSE. I realize that BGSE is much better ranked and might open a lot more doors but I would have to spend a huge amount of money that I wouldn't have to spend in Canada, considering tuition + other costs. Furthermore, while both Vancouver and Barcelona are amazing cities I would love to live in, I'd prefer to live in Canada on a longer term. I've read that the BGSE Economics MA is a great way to enhance your profile and that, if you do well, you can expect to get some offers from decent PhD programs (i.e., non top 10, more like top 30). I've also read that some of the best students from SFU's MA got into top Canadian programs (e.g., Toronto, UBC). I think I have a FAR better chance of being at the top of my cohort in SFU. I'm talking top 3%, here. However, given that I'm an international, getting funded offers from top Canadian programs is really hard. Canada is my top destination of choice and I plan on applying to US and European programs too but I'm afraid that SFU is not very well known outside of Canada. Right now I'm leaning towards SFU and I only have 4 days to decide. Do you think I'm making the wrong choice? What would you do?

Hi all ! I have just been accepter to master ITFD (international trade finance and development) from BGSE starting in September 2012. It's quite a late acceptance, I think I am going to accept but needs some inputs if some of you have done this master or know it : - reputation / seriousness : my first choice was master in economics, whom I know the international reputation is excellent. I didn't have much time to get feedback from ITFD master, but the courses don't seem very different, with a specialisation more oriented toward international trade of course, what pleases me as well. Do you know more about its international reputation ? - quantitative courses : I am from engineering background, and am curious to apply quantitative methods in macroeconomics. Same questions than previously : is this master good for those who like quantitative things ? - job placement : moreover it would be nice to have some examples of typical professional placements. I am interested in consulting in economics, banking sector, and international organisations. If you have some inputs, many thanks in advance !

Hey guys, I was recently accepted into the Barcelona GSE MSC International Trade, Finance and Development. I have been reading many of the posts regarding Barcelona GSE and UPF, but I have not been able to find anything very specific regarding this program. I am looking to find a job after I graduate within development/econ policy sector. I am really just looking for any information about the school/program outside of what i can find on the website and related website. Also, maybe regarding job placements after graduation. Thanks!
