I am hoping to borrow some of your knowledge about various programs. My options are: Accepted: Caltech, University of Arizona Wait List: UChicago, UCLA, Boston College I like micro theory but if I were to do empirical work I'd prefer randomized controlled trials/field experiments. My main question is if my preference ordering is wrong: UChicago > Caltech >= UCLA > Boston College > UArizona From what I understand UCLA is similarly ranked with Caltech but I doubt I will get the funding to go to UCLA. I also debating whether I should tell BC to take me off the waitlist. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Hello, I need some help deciding (fairly quickly) which masters program to choose as to give me the best shot at a PhD in Economics. With aims to do financial econometrics. Background: Undergrad: UK top 15 university, gained a 1st class honours in BSc Economics Postgrad: UK top 5 masters econ program but suffered illness during the exam term so my marks aren't as high as I would have hoped Currently: Working as an Economist at an economic consultancy Options: MA Stats at Columbia, MA Econ at Boston University, MSc Economics Barcelona GSE (Just applied, I know it is really late but I am quite hopeful) I need help in decided which to choose as none are funded and I hope to get onto a funded PhD next year. I would really appreciate any opinions you guys/girls have on either of these programs and progression onto PhD. Thanks!

Hello folks, I have been offered admission to Boston University (no funding) and University of Texas at Austin ($$). I am really into macroeconomics and time series econometrics, which I've heard are some of the strenghts of both programs. In order to go to BU I have a national scholarship (am not from the US) that will cover all my expenses for the first two years so I can go there without worries about that issue, at least for half of the program. At UT they're funding me for the first year, next years will depend upon academic performance. So, I am trying to decide which offer to accept, could you please give me you comments and/or opinions about the trade off between these two institutions? Thanks
