My Target Scores

  1. Hi, I am considering applying for PhD in Marketing for Fall 2021. I am looking for advice on whether my profile needs some work and which schools might be feasible options. Test Scores (GMAT/GRE): GRE Quant: 168/170 (94th Percentile), Verbal: 170/170 (99th Percentile), Writing: 4/6 (60th Percentile) Undegrad GPA: 7.74/10 or 3.57/4 (as per WES) in Electronics and Communication Engineering Graduate GPA: 3.85/4 so far (another year remaining) in Master's in Business Analytics Research Experience: No published papers but working with a professor in the Marketing department as RA for an ongoing research project Teaching Experience: None, but worked as TA for a Marketing and Supply Chain course Work Experience: 3 years work experience in the field of Analytics, with focus on Marketing Concentration Applying to: Marketing Number of programs planned to apply to: I hear 20 is a reasonable number Dream Schools: Wharton, Harvard, Columbia, Stanford, University of Chicago (I don't think my profile is exceptional enough to be accepted, but this is the dream) Other Questions: What made you want to pursue a PhD? A PhD would give me the opportunity and resources to pursue business problems that I am interested in Questions or concerns you have about your profile? 1. I realize my profile is not very exceptional, but I still want to target some of the top schools- is there anything I can do that would increase my chances? 2. What would be some reach or safety schools for someone with my profile? Any additional specific questions you may have: With respect to the Letters of Recommendation- I have worked closely with one professor as an RA, I think he would give me a good recommendation. For the other 2, can I reach out to professors whose courses I've taken but not necessarily worked closely with or is that a bad option? I hear reaching out to old managers or stakeholders from business is a bad idea for PhD applications, is that true? Thank you so much for your time. I am hoping to get some sense of direction with my applications because this is my only shot practically.
  2. Test Scores (GMAT/GRE): GRE VA: 165 (98 percentile), QA: 168 (97 percentile) Undegrad GPA: 8.5/10 (Top 20% of class- Top 10 Indian Engineering College) Graduate GPA: 7.1/10 (Top 20% of class- Top 5 Indian B School) Research Experience: No publishing experience as such. During my professional career I have undertaken some secondary research for my consulting projects and primary research in the form of interviews and surveys, especially with think tanks like the World Resources Institute and the United Nations Environment Programme. Some of my MBA courses and business case competitions also required some basic secondary research. Teaching Experience: None Work Experience: I have a work experience of two and a half years in a Tier 2 strategy consulting organisation with their Sustainability Services practice. I have primarily worked with non profit organisations and multilateral organisations like WWF, The Nature Conservancy, Red Cross Society, UN agencies. I have supported various strategic projects with them. For example, I have worked with the UN Environment Programme to develop science based targets for businesses to reduce their impact on oceans and this involved a pair bit of literature based research. The current project I am working on is one of the world’s largest assessments of impact of 250+ consumer goods organisations on palm oil sustainability. This also involves literature review and surveying companies. Concentration Applying to: Strategy Number of programs planned to apply to: 6-8 Dream Schools: Yale, Michigan Ross, Duke Fuqua, USC Marshall, University of Washington Foster, University of Minnesota Carlson School Letters of recommendation: I will be asking for LORs from my MBA professors. It’s going to be of moderate strength since I don’t have any research experience to speak of but will only be asking those professors in whose courses I have ranked among the top 5 scorers. Note: I have also attached my resume for more information. Other Questions: What made you want to pursue a PhD? I have working on the topic of how businesses can operate responsibly and contribute positively to nature for the entirety of my professional career. Prior to that I have won several business case competitions on similar themes like sustainable agriculture. I believe there is scope for a great deal of innovation in this topic especially looking at how different stakeholders in the ecosystem can collaborate to drive change. Through my experience I realise that businesses who are now working on net positive value creation in the environment will have a first movers advantage when the regulations change. They will also have an effect on policy drivers. However in order to get there, businesses need guidance on how they can function responsibly while maintaining profitability. This is where academia will play a role going into the future because the ground is still nascent and it requires backing up with strong research. This is the journey I want to be a part of which is why the first step would be to apply for a strong PhD program in strategy, business environment and business economics. Questions or concerns you have about your profile? Given my overall MBA GPA isn’t extraordinary (may come to a 3.5 I guess, using the Columbia school chart of conversion) and I have no big research experience to speak of, do I have a shot at any of my dream schools or at least a top 30 college in the US? Does this forum have any suggestions on which schools I should be applying to? How does the GPA conversion work (from a 10 point scale to a 4 point scale)? What points should I stress upon in my SOP to give my application a push given my lack of research experience? Any additional specific questions you may have: Is there a possibility of getting part time remote research projects under professors in the US? Given the COVID situation in India, it’s not possible to do that here right now.
  3. What are people's opinions on business economics versus economics for someone with theory interests? So what's the verdict on urch? How would these programs stack up? (Redacted.)
  4. Hi. Are you aware of any PhD program in Business Administration/Management in Canada that is still accepting new applications? I've applied to 6 programs last December, and it looks like I didn't get in any :upset: I really can't wait for a whole year! Good options in the US would also be appreciated :loveheart:
  5. Hi. It's my first post here :) I have applied to 6 Phd programs in business administration/Management in Canada, as follows: 1- Rotman - University of Toronto (Organization behaviour) 2- Sauder - University of British Columbia (Organization behaviour) 3- Schulich - York University (Organisational studies) 4- Ivey - University of Western Ontario (Entrepreneurship) 5- Haskayne - University of Calgary (Entrepreneurship) 6- Beedie - Simon Fraser University (Entrepreneurship/Organisational studies) I'v had an interview with POI in both Calgary & Simon Fraser, but that was it. Never heard back from these 2, neither was I shortlisted to interviews by the first 4 I'm wondering if anyone applied to these and heard back, I'm new to this website and I've used the search function, but searching for 'Beedie', for example, resulted in posts that goes back to 2013! so I wonder if there is anything I'm doing wrong. I also wonder when approximately do these universities send decision (Either acceptance or rejection). Also, out of curiosity, which of those has the highest acceptance rate for international students with degrees from outside Canada/US? Much appreciation!
  6. Test Scores (GMAT/GRE): GRE: Verbal 95th percentile, Quant 98th percentile, writing 98th percentile Undegrad GPA: 3.4 overall (Chemistry major), 3.95 in math + stat courses Graduate GPA: 4.00 (Applied Statistics & Analytics) Research Experience: Undergrad: Research in chemistry education, biochem, and analytics (presented at conferences and all that jazz), no journal publications though. Grad: Independent research in time series, bioinformatics/medical analytics, and data science. Research in multiple programming languages (Python, R and SAS) with all sorts of machine learning and statistical schools. Teaching Experience: I am a lecturer of introductory statistics and teach classes along with taking my grad courses. Work Experience: College instructor, data science graduate student consultant for 2 semester (1 semester was for a Fortune 100 Company). Might possibly get a data science internship this summer after I graduate. Concentration Applying to: Quantitative Marketing/Modelling Number of programs planned to apply to: 5-6 (in Fall 2022) Dream Schools: UT Dallas, GA Tech (I'm from Georgia), UGA, Texas A&M (they publish a LOT). -Additional information: US Citizen but a minority in terms of ethnicity Other Questions: What made you want to pursue a PhD? I currently teach at the university level and absolutely see myself doing this the rest of my life. I am interested in Marketing because the quantitative side seems to be heading to a unique intersection of business and data science, both of which interest me. Questions or concerns you have about your profile? 1. I have tons of math and stat courses (all the calculuses, linear algebra, mathematical statistics etc), but no business classes. Keep in mind that I am wanting to go the quantitative side and not the CB side of marketing. Still though, how "bad" is it that I would be applying with no previous MBA or business classes? 2. I have failed classes in my undergrad, BUT those were organic chemistry classes. My math and stat classes are literally all A's, and have made up for my mediocre undergrad science grades with all A"s in my master's in applied stats program. Would those failed chemistry classes hurt my chance of admission, or would they not care since I didn't fail a class related to anything quantitative? Any additional specific questions you may have: 1. Any specific PhD in Quant Marketing programs that would be willing to "take a chance" on someone like me who does not have business classes on their transcript but lots of quantitative experience? 2. Do I have any sort of chance at Quantitative Marketing PhD programs given my heavy stat background but minimal "business" background? 3. If I do have a chance, what program rankings would I have the best shot at getting into (top 20, nothing above top 30 etc.)? 4. I am fine with taking "remedy" classes my first semester or 2 if they want me to have more of a business background. Do PhD programs do this or they want someone with all that already on their transcript?
  7. Test Scores (GMAT/GRE): 168Q 168V 5.5 AWA Undergrad GPA: 2.11 - Bachelor of Science (Applied Math) from #1 ranked university in Australia My undergraduate degree was marked by significant personal and mental health challenges (which are now behind me). I intend to detail this in a separate Statement of Impact, potentially including a letter from my treating clinical psychologist if this will help. I am hoping that clemency will be afforded to my undergrad performance based on these facts. Graduate GPA: 4.0 - Master of Business Administration from #1 ranked business school in Australia 4.0 - Master of Marketing from #1 ranked business school in Australia Awards: Dean's List (top 10% of class) for MBA/Master of Marketing Received Dean's Commendation Awards for the subjects 'Business Strategy', 'Consumer Behavior', 'Managerial Judgement', and 'Marketing Research' for all-round excellence, both in terms of academic achievement and classroom participation. Research Experience: Currently writing a business case study on a medical device start-up, under the supervision of a tenured Professor who holds a PhD from MIT. Hoping to publish this with Ivey Case Publishing. On completion of the case, this Professor & I intend to complete a research piece and publish a paper on qualitative predictors of medical device start-up success. Teaching Experience: TA for 'Data Analysis' for 4 terms (and ongoing), maintaining an average student satisfaction rating of 9.47/10. Additionally, I will be taking on a TA position for 'Managerial Economics' in 2021. Work Experience: 'Head of Marketing Research' at a relatively small coworking space start up (~30 employees, but raised over $20m in funding). Additionally, have my own marketing research consulting business. Other comments: Not sure if it's worth noting, but I am a dual US-Australian citizen. So whilst I have completed my studies in Australia, I am unclear on whether I apply as a domestic or International student. Concentration Applying to: Strategic Management Number of programs planned to apply to: 20 Dream Schools: Top 20 US + INSEAD, Oxford, Cambridge. Other Questions: Questions or concerns you have about your profile? Obviously my undergraduate performance is quite abysmal - I had several failing grades, as low as 5 and 17 (although, these were because I disengaged from the class and did not even sit the final exam). I am hoping my subsequent performance and Statement of Impact will clearly demonstrate that this is not an accurate reflection of my abilities, and was instead due to significant mental health challenges at the time. However, the question remains: how much clemency might I expect from Top 20 schools with regards to my undergraduate performance? Do I have a reasonable shot at some of my target schools (top 20 US + INSEAD, Oxford, Cambridge) or will my application likely be summarily dismissed? Is there anything else I can do between now and end of next year to strengthen my application? Assume I have a strong Statement of Purpose and Letters of Recommendation.
  8. I am planning to take an Accounting PhD soon and am curious about alternative careers just in case the academic job market dries up by the time I finish my PhD in 6 to 7 years time. I am not expecting to land at a top-ranked uni and will probably study in the lower-ranked schools (maybe top 50 to 100). For Business PhD graduates not just in accounting but also in finance, marketing, OB, and others, do industry firms generally stay away from them? What types of industry roles are suitable for PhD graduates given the skills they get in gradschool? For example and to be more specific, can business PhD graduates ride the current big data and machine learning trend and work as a data scientist?
  9. Hello everyone, I am now considering economics research master + PhD programs in the Netherlands - mostly Tinbergen, Tilburg, Maastricht. I would be more than grateful if you could evaluate my profile. PROFILE: Type of Undergrad: B.A. Finance & Accounting - in the best business school in Poland (triple crown accreditation) Type of Grad: M.A. Finance & Accounting - Corporate Finance specialisation (same as B.A.) + Master in Corporate Financial Management in France (double degree program) - expected graduation: July 2020 Cumulative GPA (undergrad): 4.8/5.0 Cumulative GPA (grad): 4.85/5.0 GRE: 168 Q / 154 V / 3.5 W Math Courses: basic math course on undergrad (30h, grade: 5/5) - mostly matrix algebra, descriptive statistics (4.5/5) Econ Courses undergrad: Micro (4.5/5), Macro (5/5), Political economy (5/5), Economics of the EU (4.5/5), Public Finance (4.5/5), Econometrics (5/5), Financial Markets (5/5), Banking (5/5), International finance (4.5/5) Econ courses grad: Qual. & Quant. research methods (5/5), Modern Banking Systems (4.5/5), Advanced Macro (more like intermediary macro - Mankiw & Krugman textbooks, 5/5), Psychology of financial markets (5.5), Application of Statistics and Econometrics in Finance & Accounting (5/5, something like Econometrics II) Letters of recommendation: 1. Assistant professor in econ department, Polish business school. 2. Assistant professor in econ department, French business school (double degree). Both of them are keen to write me strong LoR. Research Experience: 3 published papers: - Empirical paper on testing efficient market hypothesis on the Polish stock exchange - published in a student journal - Continuation of the previous paper, published in peer reviewed Polish journal, co-authored with my supervisor. - Paper in legal sciences (not economic-related), published in peer reviewed Polish journal. Senior honors thesis Teaching Experience: None Other experience: over 1 year as a credit analysis trainee in one of the biggest European banks - during full-time master studies. Research Interests: Macroeconomics, International Economics, Policy Programming Skills: Oracle SQL, Excel VBA, R Other: multiple holder of the scholarships for the best students Concerns: I am extremely willing to continue my further development in economics rather than finance. However, my background is strongly related to corporate finance, rather than economics and I am not sure how universities mentioned at the beginning will evaluate it. If my business background does not suit any of previously mentioned universities, could you provide me with some other unis in EU, which will be more keen to accept for economics someone with business background? Thanks!
  10. Hi everyone. I'm Korean and planning to apply for PhD in business(Operation Management) for 2021 fall or maybe 2022 also. Since I first started to consider PhD in business in late August, I could not fully prepare for required tests. I acknowledge that my profile is not competitive, but I want to try this unless it's totally a waste of money. So I would greatly appreciate if some of you give me any advice or let me realize cruel reality :D. Test Scores GRE: V 155(67%) / Q 168(92%) / AWA 3.5 (38%) TOEFL: 95 (29/25/20/21) Undergrad GPA: physics 3.74/4.00 (not top school, South Korea) Graduate GPA: statistics 4.0/4.0 up to third semester (higher than undergrad, yet not top school, South Korea) Research Interests: operation management(not yet exhaustively explored sub fields). I discovered some professors who study optimization problems in online ads or display ads, and it attracts me. However they are in top 10 school.. Research Experience: My master's thesis(in statistics) is under review on a minor journal, it seems to be accepted if I take minor revision. I'm co-working with a professor in Business department to write a paper about operation management in international trade. I proved some optimal conditions for importer and exporter using calculus, and discussed some ideas with the professor to extend our model. Teaching Experience: None Work Experience: 1 year work in a patent law firm. I performed most patent application processes, but I have no legal licence(patent attorney or agent). Letters of Recommendation: my adviser, co-working professor and another professor soon to be invited to our research. The professor I'm working with obtained PhD in U.S., and have connection with some current professors in U.S.. Number of programs planned to apply to: fewer than 10 Dream Schools: Columbia, UNC (Yes, just dream :)) What made you want to pursue a PhD? In this summer, my adviser asked me if I'm interested in doing research with a professor in business department who needed co-worker capable of undergrad level mathematics for his paper. I wondered how and which mathematics are used in business research, so I took part in. While calculating some math and interpreting the result of the calculation, I could feel similar joy of understanding a system with the mathematical perspective as I was studying physics. Soon, I began to think that pursuing PhD in business may be better for me rather than getting a job in industry, because I want to be an independent researcher. If you ask me why I don't try PhD in statistics, during MS course I felt that I want to apply my knowledge of stat to industrial area, not to study statistics itself deeply. Therefore I aimed for industry after graduation. Now, I realized that it can be also used to solve problems in business, especially operation management. Questions or concerns you have about your profile? 1. I concern my weak GRE, TOEFL scores. Some schools have minimum TOEFL scores higher than mine, whereas others have lower or don't have. But I'm not sure if I can avoid to be screened out even though I satisfied minimum requirement. 2. I don't have background in economy, and did not take real analysis lectures. Will these influence my admission significantly? By the way, I took linear algebra and calculus.
  11. My interest is to obtain a PhD in Business with a concentration in Management, Entrepreneurship, or Strat. My BA has a first major in Business and second major in History. I earned a MA in History from a top 50 US national university. This summer, I scored 328 on the GRE. While I am looking primarily at traditional US based PhD Business programs, I am also interested in other paths. Some unis in the UK will count my MA so that I can enter directly into a 3 - 4 year PhD. Another option is to take an AACSB PhD at the University of South Alabama or UNC Greensboro. If I want to shave 1 - 2 years off my program while still having the ability to obtain a future tenure track professorship, what option might you recommend?
  12. Hi there, Can anyone recommend an admission consultant for for PhD in Business Administration/Management? It would be great if you could say what the consultant did for you - overall strategy, Statement of Purpose, Letters of Recommendations, etc. Thank you !
  13. Hello all, My name is Megan Gorges and I'm an incoming PhD student in Organizational Behavior at Harvard Business School. I'm excited to announce a new wiki intended to provide guidance for those applying to PhD programs in business schools: businessphdwiki.com This wiki was developed in collaboration with Abhishek Nagaraj (Assistant Professor at Berkeley Haas) and Stephen Turban (also an incoming PhD student in OB at HBS). We created this to give open access to the "insider" information we gathered through our own journeys, and to help level the playing field for all aspiring business school academics. The wiki covers a host of topics including what it means to pursue a career in business academia, tactical guidance on the application process (including example essays and CVs from successful applicants), and the rise of pre-doctoral research positions. This is set up as a wiki (editable by anyone!) precisely because it is missing a lot of information, so if you are already in a PhD program or are further along in your academic career, please edit to share your own wisdom! Specifically, it would be great to incorporate perspectives from those outside OB (marketing, finance, etc.) and to add more information on how to achieve success during the PhD and beyond. Please feel free to share the wiki with anyone else who might find it useful!
  14. Seems like I have the opposite problem of a lot of those in this thread. Mathematical stats undergrad (real analysis, probability, linear algebra, proofs, etc.) who took micro and macro (beginner) and corporate finance as part of a business minor. Currently conduct research in R in another social science, public policy-ish. Also do consulting work through the dept. Feels like some building blocks are here to pivot to econ, but unfortunately, I'm a senior. Looking at master's with a thesis programs (as an attempt for a stepping stone for research analyst roles and/or phds) and the decent ones all require at least a minor's worth of econ. Have always wanted to pursue a graduate degree and have always been told by profs that I'd be a good fit personality wise for research-type roles. I held off because I wasn't passionate enough about other topics to warrant the pursuit, until doing research in public policy and dipping my toes in econ. Unlike other disciplines where my background could get me there (biostats, CS, etc) seems like econ has no pathway, DESPITE being wildly related. Stuck and sad. Looking for ideas or confirmation to move on and stay in my corporate gig or look into business phds or or MPPs or something.

  16. Hello. I hope everyone is starting to get good news from PhD programs. I myself have applied to both sociology and management/OB PhD programs. There is a lot of information online on the overall health of the sociology job market, e.g., how many jobs and how many PhD graduates per year, what typical placement is for a productive student at a top program. However, there is very little information I can find on the Business School Job Market. I know I can see some placements on individual university websites. But is there any good information on the business school job market overall? Information that will help me compare sociology and business in terms of job market quality? Information that will give me a sense of "how likely I am to get an R1 job", for example?

Math/Statistics: Statistics for Economists, Econometrics, Calculus of several variables Concentration Applying to: Finance (I'm interested in international finance and, more specifically, the role of international financial institutions) Number of programs planned to apply to: Around 20 Target Schools: Top 20 schools Questions or concerns you have about your profile? - Should I be concerned that I did not take any classes in Linear Algebra? - Should I take some additional statistics or math class through online extension programs? - Would the lack of journal publication hurt my application? Thank you and I look forward to any and all advises you may have V/R

  19. Context: I’m a non-traditional prospective applicant – 15+ yrs of industry experience. I’ve gone back and forth over the past 10 yrs on whether to apply for PhD programs, and which programs to apply to (Public policy, Econ, Business, Urban PlannIng). I recently decided that I would like to take the leap and transition to a career in research / academia. There are professors across various departments that fit my research interests (in public policy, business, economics, and urban planning departments). At the end of the day, I want to get into the program that fits me best AND positions me for TT roles. My strong preference is to stay in ATL, though I will likely apply to a few reaches away from here. Test Scores (GMAT/GRE): TBD – goal is 90th percentile which I think is feasible based on my past GRE score Undegrad GPA: 3.7 in top 100 public university, honors college (2002) Graduate GPA: MPP - 3.8 in top 10 public policy school (2004); MPhil from Judge at Cambridge (dissertation received high marks) (2005) Research Experience: RA in undergrad (NSF funded, primary author published in peer reviewed journal); GRA in grad (thesis was funded and published by university research center); dissertation at Cambridge was also funded Teaching Experience: NA Work Experience: 4 yrs in mngt consulting to start career (Deloitte); 10 yrs in national non-profit leadership roles (VP and C-level); now back in strategy consulting as associate partner at MBB firm (2 yrs) Schools: Business Emory (O&M macro) Georgia Tech (Strategy & Innovation) Erasmus RSM part-time (Business and Society) One from top 5 Public policy Harris UofC Oxford DPhil (part-time) Urban economics LSE Cambridge Oxford (part-time) Questions Given my educational and professional background (and very old math from undergrad and grad), I think that I’d be most competitive for B-Schools. But I’d love any feedback from the forum on what range of schools to target. I need to prioritize where to put my time against my goal of getting into these programs. My hypothesis is GRE prep, personal statement / research interests, then potentially enrolling in a course in fall (to further narrow interests and potentially get a LOR). I am also working on a white paper through work, but don’t think that would published in time. Thoughts on if this is the right prioritization? (As a side, I was originally thinking of Econ programs - but would need to take 5+ math courses over the next few years to be competitive which doesn't seem like the right prioritization.)

    Hi There

Hi Friends, Happy to be here. Should have visited this thread few years before. Better late than never. Eager to make new friends in the path of PhD in Business.
  23. Hi all, Would truly appreciate your help, advice and suggestions on my profile. I am an media professional and an arts manager from India with over 12 years of experience. Just completed my Masters in Arts Management in Boston and now want to specialize in entrepreneurship within the creative and cultural industries. Hence considering a Phd. I was told to look at a Business or an Education Phd. Within business, I am veering more towards Organizational Behaviour. My research areas would broadly fall under workforce development, creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship with an interdisciplinary focus on education. Here are my questions: - Have you heard of any place that could potentially support entrepreneurship research within the cultural industries? I know UK/Europe are big on this but would prefer the US approach. - Is Organizational Behavior the best fit for my interests or should I abandon the idea of the business Phd? Focus instead on education? - Any advice on what approach I should take since I don't have a strong math/accounting background? - Any school / department / professor recommendations? Here is what my profile looks like now: Undergrad GPA: First Class Post Grad Diploma in Journalism: A Grade Post Grad Diploma in Arts Management: A Grade Masters in Arts Administration: 3.71/4 (Also received the Excellence Award in Graduate Studies) TOEFL: 104/120 GRE: Yet to take Past Research: Qualitative research in India on Pedagogical Systems for artisans, Two papers in Boston University - None Published yet. Quant, Statistical Experience - None, also fairly mortified of math in general Fellowships: Fulbright, Net Impact Awards: in Journalism Letters of Recommendation: Should be able to get it from my professors at BU including those in the Business and Entrepreneurship class. Research Interests: Innovation, Creativity, Entrepreneurship, Cultural Industries and 21st Century Skills / Workforce Development Teaching Experience: None Work Experience: 12-14 years across media, social entrepreneurship and arts management. Now, fundraising in the social impact, non-profit space. Any advice would be great at this point. Thanks all for your time! Best, P
  24. Hi guys, I was reading "A Guide to Business PHD Aplications", by Abhishek Nagaraj and he heavily recommends this forum (and I heavily recommend thar reading for anyone wanting to aplicate for a PHD). I am recently graduated, currently working in a business school as an assistant; in my first try of GRE I got 163 in Qual (93 percentile) and 165 in Quant (88 percentile). Should I try to improve this results or focus on other things, like research experience before application? Would greatly appreciate any advise. Thanks in advance!
  25. Hi! I am an OB applicant this season, but have not got any good news yet. I think I will apply again in two years, but I would appreciate some advice on how to move forward. I was thinking about possibly get a research assistant job in a business school, but my professor (business phd) recommended me to go into consulting possibly and get some experience in the field. Here is my profile this year Test Scores (GMAT): V 41/93%, Q 50/85%, AW 6/88%, IR 8/92%, Total 750/98% Undergrad GPA: 3.78 (organization development, top15) Graduate GPA: 3.78 (international education, top15) Research Experience: Mainly 2 years of GA while in grad school with a cross-cultural state-wide education reform project, and some other class projects, no thesis. I pretty much thought I will never get a Ph.D. until 2 years ago when I learnt there are Ph.D. programs in business schools... Teaching Experience: none Work Experience: 4 years coordinating a international educator professional and leadership development program at a top university Concentration Applying to: OB - team dynamics/processes Number of programs applied to: 12 - half in the U.S., half in other countries... pretty much all top schools except HSB, MIT and Stanford... Got an interview from LBS, which made me think I have a shot at this. Other Questions: What made you want to pursue a PhD? - the opportunity for sustained research to investigate team dynamics and processes in diverse teams and how teams can capitalize on their diversity - help organizations maximize the potential of their diverse talents - be an advocate and role model for minority and women in business academia Questions or concerns you have about your profile? Right now, I am pretty much only waiting to hear from NUS (Singapore). I have not heard from UBC or Toronto, but pretty sure they will be rejections. I would really appreciate some suggestions going forward - should I focus more on boosting my research experience? - should I get in business and possibly consulting since it kinda involve some research work but will give me more business experience? - should I get an MBA (it will definitely help me change career, but doesn't seem to help much if I plan to apply for PHD again in 2020)? What's the possibility of staying at the school for Ph.D. after MBA if I can cultivate great relationship with faculties? Really appreciate all the knowledge here!
