I saw that UMD posted a note on their department page that they will have fewer spots for admissions in fall 2021 due to students deferring offers from fall 2020 because of covid. I expect admissions to be more competitive this year, because of students deferring and also more people applying in a bad economy, but does anyone have a sense of the scale of the effect? Do we think twice as many people will apply for half as many spots? Better? Worse? I applied in fall 2018 and got some offers I liked, but went to work instead for personal reasons. Based on last time and my work experience since I think I'm a medium competitive candidate for schools in the 20's (Maryland, Austin) but am trying to decide whether what's going on right now should effect my decision making on applying now vs. waiting one more year.

Hello all, I was lucky to be a winner of a competitive funding prize for students from over 15 countries in Europe. The prize is quite restrictive (only 1-2 students get it), awarded purely based on academic merit and is meant to be an addition to schools' funding. I have communicated this info to the all the places I applied to right away in hope that it may provide the adcom's with some external validation. Do you think this has an impact if the committee members know about the prize? It is quite known in Europe. I am unsure about the USA, but that is where most of my schools are, as they are in the top 15.

Hello friends :eager: I'm really interested in financial accounting research and have been trying to find schools/programs of interest. Would anyone mind shedding more light on this? Any schools/programs that focus on archival (or empirical) research & any professors? Tons of thanks! Ps: I'm not too sure if I'd be competitive, so I'm probably going to look at decent but not too intimidating programs (no T20 I guess...). If anyone have any recommendations that'd be great!

Has anyone here looked at or applied to Stanford's GSB Research Fellows program? It's a two-year program with a full stipend where you're not a graduate student, but you take graduate classes and do research with mentors and stuff. I applied to it as well as some economics PhD programs (I have already gotten into one with funding) Stanford said they will let everyone know their acceptances by April 6th which would give me enough time to make a decision. I went to a pretty average undergrad and didn't apply to any top 10 because I knew that I would not be competitive. If I were to do this program, I would definitely become much much more competitive. BUT! Then it would add two years onto the already awful amount of time PhDs take. Would it be worth it? Did anyone else look into this or apply? Let me know what you think plssss :grief:
