PROFILE: Type of Undergrad: Mathematics w/ ICS minor at a rank 50ish school in the US. Undergrad GPA: 3.55 Type of Grad: n/a Grad GPA: n/a GRE: 170Q, but test score expired... need to retake Math Courses:Abstract Math & Proofs B Differential Equat B Cryptology B Differential Equations B Group Theory B Linear Algebra I B Linear Algebra II B Math Modeling I B Complex Analysis B+ Analysis I A+ Analysis II A Topology A Probability & Statistics A Math Modeling II A+ Theory Diff Equations A+ Differential Geometry A Number Theory A Category Theory (Grad level) A Econ Courses: Other Courses: Compsci classes, would they be relevant? Letters of Recommendation: I have two professors who remember me and could write letters, but don't know what to do for the third. Research Experience: None. Teaching Experience: I taught at a famous test-prep company for two years, and was quite successful (~30 hours/week during undergrad) I worked for 5 years at a non-profit mentoring college students and helping refugees and helped marginalized peoples in Asia. Bonus: I am now fluent in mandarin and have a seminary degree. I'm committed to getting a PhD in Econ from a top university, but I know my application isn't stellar. I'm willing to put in the time to get a masters so that I can shore up my LOR and research experience. Should I try my shot with the application process this time around or go for a masters?

Hello all, I was wondering how a B in Differential Equations will be considered when applying for PhD/RA-Ship. I was close to getting an A but unfortunately ended up with a B+ (which led to a B since my school doesn't have +/- system.). Just as a reference, I've struggled a lot in the beginning but managed to get straight A's in the math courses that I have taken the past two semesters, including: Real Analysis I and II, Abstract Algebra, Proof-based Linear Algebra, Mathematical Probability, Topology, Linear Programming, and Combinatorics I took it about a year ago, and I was thinking about taking Measure Theory since it includes difference equations so I was wondering whether it will be a good sign if I get an A in this course despite the B in Diff Eq. Please let me know what your thoughts are!
