  1. People who make decisions based on emotion and justify those decisions with logic afterwards are poor decision makers. Essay: Every person takes myriad decisions in the journey of life. Generally decisions are based upon multiple factors:emotions, logic, consequences of decisions, people involved in the situation. People choose the option with which they feel more comfortable then it may be based on emotion or logic. Let's consider a few examples: Staying away from family for better job opportunities, better education are one of the most important decisions for one's career. One person might choose to stay with the family and leave career opportunities because of emotional attachment with family, sometimes he needs to give emotional support to the family. Another person might choose to leave family and go for his/her dreams. First decision is based on emotions but still there is logic behind it, the person won't be happy after leaving his family. He feels good in his comfort zone. Maybe he does not have courage to go away, stay alone and make new friends, start a new life. For him emotional decision is logical. He has his own reasons. Second person likes to take challenges, explore the world, get out of his comfort zone. His decision is also based on emotions that he wants to grow and improve. He has logic and emotions in his decision. Does it mean that any one of them is a poor decision maker? No. They are good and happy with their own decisions. Both of them are able to justify their decision with logic. Maybe first person has taken decision based on emotions but still it is logical. Moderate amount of emotions are always logical. Let's consider country's important decisions. PM cannot take such decisions based on only emotions, because it will affect entire country. If he takes decisions based on emotions then he won't be able to justify it with apt logic. Even if he generates some logic then it will be fallacious. In this case, PM will be poor decision maker. CEO of a company cannot take decisions based only on emotions. There should be practical reasoning. Emotions should be important part of any decision because our happiness or sadness after decision is also a emotion. The way we will handle consequences of decision depends upon our emotions. If we are able to justify our decision with logic then definitely we are not poor decision makers. But whether we should focus more on emotions or practical approach depends upon the situation, consequences after decision, people involved in decision making.

  3. "If rituals did not exist, we would have to invent them. We need ceremonies and rituals to help us define ourselves socially and culturally." The topic suggests that humankind needs ceremonies and rituals to help define themselves socially and culturally. Now this may be true to a certain extent, but most rituals, I believe, are a burden on society, considering the monoply reiligious organizations have over them. We can easily organize functions as per our wish and not be worried about offending someone. It is not a tough task to organize an event, be it religious or social, as per our liking. In order to bring some structure to the event, we can simply plan ahead and hold certain functions that may appeal to those participating in it; we can play it by ear. And before you know it, the structure of functions done well, whether a house party or a welcome event, may soon become rigid, turning into a ritual. This happens when we try to repeat past successes and follow old practices to the T. This has been the case with religious practices. For instance, the rituals which had some meaning and served a distinct purpose hundreds of years ago, are still mindlessly repeated. And if somebody dares breaking with the ancient practices, there is a furore! The guardians of religion, especially in Sikhism, Hinduism or Islam, are inflicting the greatest harm to it; these regressive, uneducated men follow old customs without putting any thought into them. If at all, we need rituals and ceremonies, they should change with the times. For instance, earlier, the Sikh grooms would carry a sword while going to the bride’s house during the wedding so he can protect her on their way back because in those days, crime was rife and dacoits would often attack a wedding procession, rob the bride before kidnapping and eventually raping her. However, in today’s time when crime is low and processions go on motorised vehicles, there is no need for the groom to carry the weapon. It may be true that rituals give one a sense of connection with history and provide structure to ceremonies. But we don’t necessarily need them. These should not be compulsory. Therefore, there is no need for rituals; one can always be one with one’s roots by establishing their own rituals.

In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position. --------------------------------------------------- With the development of science and technology made through out the human history, especially the past one hundred years or so, people these days are spending more time relying on technology to solve various types of problems. Does the ability of humans to think for themselves really deteriorate as they rely more and more on technology? Admittedly, the improvement of technology and its concomitant contribution to a more convenient daily life does to certain extent obviate the necessity of many traditional tasks, subtly affecting the humans’ ability of thinking. Nevertheless, as a whole effect in general, technology progress improves working efficiency and labor safety, and frees humans from low-level repeated physical work to high-level decision-making intellectual work. In addition, technology proposes brand-new problems as well which challenges the humans’ thinking ability to an even unexpected extent. It is true that in many situations, the requirement for thinking seems less demanding than before due to the development of technology as the “brains” of computers have replaced humans’ role in many tasks. For instance, students no longer need think hard to solve involving algebraic equations as calculators could do the job for them; engineers do not have to worry about the side effect of modifying their design drawings at one place as in the past due to the modern CAD software’s smart updates for all affected parts; people nowadays could simply forget about their previous pains of finding parking lots when they go shopping at some remote super-markets as the contemporary online shopping systems will deliver the customers anything they need right away with the help of modern logistics, information technology and advanced transportation tools. The development of technology does so much that humans are no longer required to solve many of the traditional tasks and consequently humans’ ability of thinking seems indeed less explored, exercised or even deteriorating. But does the improvement of technology really eliminate the necessity of thinking and deprive humans of their opportunity of solving problems by themselves? With the fading away of stereotyped problems, such as solving algebraic equation on a piece of sketch paper, people are now faced with completely new types of problems, such as how to utilize calculators and computers to solve more complex problems where instead of the regular manipulation innovation and creativity are tested. Technology on the one hand frees humans from the boring and repeated work, yet on the other hand brings in more demanding tasks. In the old says, factory workers have to operate their machines for repeated parts processing which seemed very laborious, however, nowadays they have to program CNC machines for automatic parts manufacturing and tool replacement and they are asked to work on more than one CNC machines as the manager feels the employees are “working less”. Technology does replace humans’ role in many traditional tasks, but technology puts humans in new positions which are more intellectually based. In addition, with the emergence of new technologies, a host of new problems also turn up. The new technology of utilizing nuclear energy for generating electricity brings forward new questions of its ecological impact when the nuclear plant’s cooling water, contaminated with radiation, is discharged into the rivers and ocean. While the development of antibiotics helped cure many patients with infection, it at the same time also produced the question of bacteria’s developed immunity which makes many previously effective medicines invalid and that whether the development of these antibiotics indirectly facilitates the mutation of bacteria towards a more hazardous and dangerous state. All these new problems never existed before the development of these new technologies and they require far more thinking than the old problems. In conclusion, while technology frees humans from the traditional laborious work, eliminating the necessity of thinking for the stereotyped problems, yet technology meanwhile brings forth new types of problems which are more intellectually intense and even unprecedented. Humans’ mind has been working on all kinds of problems throughout the history to keep up with pace of our world change. With the development of technology, old problems might become obsolete but new problems with more challenges will never stop appearing, ensuring the opportunity for humans’ mind to explore and develop to higher state and securing the brains’ role of thinking from deteriorating.

All too often, companies hire outside consultants to suggest ways for the company to operate more efficiently. If companies were to spend more time listening to their own employees, such consultants would be unnecessary. Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with these statements and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statements might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position. And my response... I disagree with the statement that companies who listen more to their own employees would not need outside consultants. Although listening to one's own employees and hiring outside consultants are two different approaches to company betterment, they are not mutually exclusive, and one approach would not necessarily eliminate a need for the other. Companies generally hire outside consultants to increase profit by boosting overall efficiency. These outside consultants take a 'big picture' stance when viewing what the company should change. The suggestions from outside consultants are important because they come from an objective and knowledgeable source, and companies often need the advice of others who are not involved in the day-to-day aspects of the company itself. In addition to receiving suggestions from hired outside sources, companies should also be sure to listen to their employees. The human resources side of business is certainly important in its own way, and ensuring the satisfaction of employees helps to keep up productivity within the company. This intra-business, individual-focused approach to company efficiency is certainly one important aspect, but it is certainly not the only necessity to run a successful business. One example of this multi-pronged approach in action involves the National Institutes of Health (NIH). At the NIH, outside contractors are hired to evaluate the quality of data analysis, assess both ethical and practical aspects of research proposals, and even provide a quadrennial review of the use of funds for research and the related outcomes. In addition to all these quality controls and efficiency checks that are necessary to keep the research on-track and of the highest possible quality, there are ample opportunities for employees themselves to make suggestions and express their own opinions on how to improve both the research itself and the work environment generally. This truly holistic approach allows employees to be heard in addition to utilizing the expertise of objective outsiders to improve the company as much as possible. Because employees are involved in very specific tasks or research areas, it would not make sense to only rely on individual suggestions. Especially in such a large, diversified work environment, it is important to have some suggestions from consultants who know how to remain detached and to assess the overall efficiency of such a large-scale environment. In some cases, such as with small start-up businesses, it may be true that employee opinions are the only ones necessary to increase efficiency, especially if there is a smaller budget with which to work. Given the cost of hiring outside consultants, it is certainly true that some of these smaller businesses would not benefit enough from the advice to justify the hiring, and that in-house assessment of efficiency could provide high quality suggestions for improvement. In these cases, the original statement could hold true. However, it is often the case that a multi-pronged, multi-level approach involving both subjective inside and objective outside suggestions provide the best assortment of suggestions for how to increase a company's efficiency.
  6. hello guys i have read many books and seen there is a pattern to get a 4-6 score in an analysis in my view u should first understand the topic very carefully ,1 min for fallacies which u can easily see which i will give a eg. & once u get hang give 2 mins to prepare a rough sketch mentioning both pros and cons . eg.. "Only by being forced to defend an idea against the doubts and contrasting views of others does one really discover the value of that idea.” idea ....... first what ideas public ,private , personal , research , debate , scientific , educational etc doubts and contrasting view ...now think on which idea u could write both contrasting views which would create most doubts ....hw will u defend so by these things u can understand the topic now, other imp thing is ............................pros and cons pros ....for scientific ,college debates.... yes ................eg ... hundreds of eg telephone ,facebook etc cons ........when a kid has an idea it should be encouraged not impeded or hampered ..............if the ideas generous like kid want to make a toy or making a drawing should there be a contrasting view or u just say i will help u so topic differ in this respect and u should mention that . If u find this helpful do comment i will also some more tricks ....... plz guys also tell when u read the topic what u do do u make notes if yes what type and how ??? or do u just start writing many people have problem regarding this ...so i m creating this post to help it all so i hope they all could get benefit holymanbinny
