Topic Educators should find out what students want included in the curriculum and then offer it to them. Instruction Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the recommendation and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, describe specific circumstances in which adopting the recommendation would or would not be advantageous and explain how these examples shape your position. Essay In a way to keep the students engaged in the curriculum which if, designed by keeping students' interests in mind, seems logically far better than the curriculum in which students’ opinions are not given careful considerations. To explain this, there are few points that will validate this approach. First, students will themselves take interest in the courses because these courses are well chosen by themselves. Things will not get boring with time, if they study the subjects of their own choice. For example, if a student wants to pursue his/her career in the field of medical science, then it would not be beneficial to force him to study the pesky English literature as well mathematics. Students will start to take interest more when they know that they can study what they want. They will definitely engage in exploring themselves that in what field they want to excel and from early age, their goal will remain focused. Likewise, for teachers it would become easier to understand what a student thinks about his/her own career. As extracurricular activities also play a major role in the whole curriculum, the students will find themselves engaging the activities they want to participate. A student would not be told to play the cricket just because it is an inseparable part of the curriculum, he/she might easily take part in swimming or the sport which they are proficient in. In contrast to all these, there are students who don't know what they are actually going to choose their career in. In that case also, it would be better, if a proper counselling is done for them. They would be told about the specifics of each course and what would it bear on their career so that they start choosing wisely. In conclusion, it would be beneficial for the students, if they are given the freedom to include the things, they want to be a part of their curriculum.

Questions: Claim: Governments must ensure that their major cities receive the financial support they need in order to thrive. Reason: It is primarily in cities that a nation's cultural traditions are preserved and generated. Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim and the reason on which that claim is based. Response: A nation’s cultural tradition is deeply rooted in its countryside. Big cities are home to people who are more interested in gaining wealth and hence give very little importance to tradition. Cities already have enough means to thrive and often have a surplus of resources at their disposal. So governments do not need to support big cities to maintain themselves. I also disagree with the reason of the claim as cultures are better preserved in villages and not in big cities. Big cities have several ways to generate money and they do not need any external help. They have big factories, financial institutions that lend money to the needy, banks, stock exchange and other related offices which are considered the major sources of wealth generation. The economy of any big city is governed by the services sector, a hugely profitable sector. In the US, more than three fourth of the economy depends on the services sector and this sector is thriving in big cities in the form of banking, finance, software etc. When it comes to facilities like healthcare, education, clean drinking water, proper sanity etc. bigger cities have the lion’s share of those. In contrast, villages have limited sources of wealth generation like agriculture, handicrafts, small factories. They contribute to the majority of the economy of the villages. Sometimes these mechanism are not capable to generate enough jobs to retain people to villages. In developing countries like India, villages almost completely depend on agriculture which in turn depends on rain for most of the country. The failure of rain causes the failure of crops and villages suffer due to lack of money to continue the doing agriculture. At this pernicious time, they need government support to sustain the people of villages and their means of livelihood. Villages do not have ample access to healthcare, education etc. as well. The reason for the claim falls apart when we look at the history of any place in this world. Any civilization be it Maya, Indus Valley or Chinese, everything started with villages and not cities. Cities came a lot later in the history of civilization. When people started dwelling and living together, they started to build up communities and for livelihood, they started doing diverse works, enjoyed celebrations, mourn burials. This marked the beginning of traditions, customs being made. Some of the age old customs can still be seen in villages like special kind of dance when crops are ready. But ancient traditions are things of yore for big cities as they are only a place to earn money and become wealthy. People do not have time out of their busy lives to make old custom a part of their lives. And gradually they die. So if the traditions are to be preserved, governments need to support villages that are not self-sufficient. Big cities will take care of themselves.

Question: Scandals are useful because they focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could. Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim. In developing and supporting your position, be sure to address the most compelling reasons and/or examples that could be used to challenge your position. Response: Society, right from its inception, have been dogged by scandals. Society had also been a witness to several reformers bringing about change to give its people a better standard of living. Reformers have a deep insight about the society as they are a part of it. Scandals have highlighted many issues but the people involved are often interested in material gains caring nothing for the society and its welfare. Although scandals help such issues surface, their contributions to the society is a mere trifle when compared with those of social reformers. Scandals often come to light when a crime has already been committed. They are depicted in the most gruesome way possible. The media often choose to display illustrations of atrocities like murder, abuse of drugs, sexual abuse caring little about the impacts these will have on children. Reformers, on the other hand, have a much better way of handling such problems. They are more concerned about raising awareness about an issue rather than demanding punishment of people involved in a certain scandal. The role media is of immense importance in this regard. It is the media which keeps us updated about recent scandals. But today media is more interested in sensationalizing the issue rather than solving it. Whenever a scandal surfaces, the media would invite “experts” on their show for their opinion. These people often break into groups and critique each other without even trying to reach a solution. When a hospital building fire in Kolkata killed about ninety patients, the media increasingly highlighted the need for compensations for the family of the deceased. People would come on talk shows and demand for discontinuing the license of the hospital. But very little light was shed on the preventive measures that needs to be taken under such dire circumstances. The action of media often leads to extreme harassment of people who have been accused of a crime but have not been convicted as yet. For instance in the case of murder of a 12 year old girl in India, the parents were accused. The media had a field day trying to sensationalize the issue. Her parents eventually became social pariahs and had to lead an absolutely isolated life. There are people who would initiate scandals just to gain popularity. Newspapers are filled with incidents of drunk driving by famous filmstars, of a brawls in night clubs etc. Instead of condemning such practices the media keeps reporting them which encourages people to continue making trouble for their own personal benefit. Social reformers, on the other hand, are educated individuals who genuinely care about people’s well-being. Gandhiji advocated nonviolence and led a very simple life. Social reformers not only create awareness about an issue but they also have a past which is not flushed with disreputable happenings, making them role models. Movements by social reformers like Vidyasagar have put an end to social stigmas like practices of sati and have encouraged widow remarriage. To motivate people to change, Vidyasagar got his son to marry a widow, thus becoming a role model who people can look up to. The changes brought about by social reformers are permanent. Social reforms address an issue and arrive at a solution to the problem. Scandals often lead to changes which are not even properly enforced. When the fraudulent activities of a Ponzi scheme in India was unearthed, there was a huge public uproar. Several cases of venality came into light but nothing has been done yet to curb those practices. Some might argue that there is a positive side to scandals in a way that they focus attention on an issue. Sometimes the public plays a major role in forcing authorities to change for the better. But the same can achieved through social reforms as well. Sometimes social reformers may not be capable of infusing a spirit of action in people but scandals can force people to adopt measures that are beneficial to the society. What remains to be seen is how long such changes, those brought about by scandals, remain in effect. From the discussion above it is clear that the positive side of scandals is outweighed by its drawbacks. In conclusion, reformers have a much better chance of altering the society for the better than scandals do.

Formal education tends to restrain our minds and spirits rather than set them free. Most of us need to take the formal education in school, especially before we set foot in universities. These formal courses we went through could be regarded as the prerequisite for the further study even though they might not be the final objectives of our lives. It will assist to open our mind light up our spirit in the end even if it may appears to restrain them at the beginning. Taking formal education equips us with basic skills and theories. Acknowledge it or not, we learn the fundamental knowledge from the formal education and it is the knowledge that allows us to live a normal life. Imagining if we do not take courses like languages and mathematics, life will be extraordinary difficult. We may find it frustrated to communicate with the public and calculate even the most common equations. Furthermore, if we do not chat with people around us too often, it is likely that we just want to block ourselves and we tend to be more melancholy than others. In addition, formal education helps us to build up our dreams and goals. It provides us with plenty of opportunities to exercise so as to become familiar and expert in our interested things. I still remembered that on my first in middle school, my teacher asked me what I would like to do in the future, I just got confused and did not know what to say. But gradually, I started to realize that I wanted to be a math teacher, teaching students the fabulous things connecting equations and the geometry and even the real world. I had to admit it was the formal education set my goals and gave me enough chance to chase after it. If I did not receive such education, I would not understand even the most obvious symbols and equations, let alone the correlation about the nature around us. Besides the large amount of exercise enhanced my recognition about the knowledge and finally led me to use it the real situation. I felt pretty proud when I applied what I learned to solve the problems. Maybe the tools are far more advanced than I was taught, but it laid a solid foundation in the future development for me. However, it also should be noted there formal education, out of its regularity, is sometimes rigid. It is undeniable that the homework is the reminiscent objects in our mind when it comes to the formal study. Of course, students in the same class are required to do the same exercise and the standard is somewhat unchangeable. Teacher got accustomed to evaluate a student by the consistent rules but not the individual ones. It limits our ability in creation and imagination a little. In sum, formal education is necessary for most of us to broad our mind and cheer our spirit. It does give us a clear sense of what we want to do in the future and provide us a platform to access to the elementary information we need in spite that it may be stereotyped sometimes. Ps: It is my first essay here and any advice is welcome for me. ^_^

"Both the development of technological tools and the uses to which humanity has put them have created modern civilizations in which loneliness is ever increasing." In this era of quickly evolving technologies, the modern civilizations have become quick with their response, elevated efficiency of work and life style. The development of technological tools have alleviated the hardship of human race to a greater extent. This tools ranging from small size to huge size have been helping man, in all aspect from increasing his efficiency and ease of his tedious tasks. This tools have positive as well as negative effect on modern civilization. A calculator a small simple useful device that can calculate large amount in fraction of seconds. A mobile phone small compact device, a amazing replacement to telephone lead a world wide turn over making communication easier than ever thought. All such technological tools and their uses have made human life much easier then ever. But as there is a saying that "Every coin has two sides", so nevertheless development of this techonological tools have been useful to human race and humanity but as well it has put the modern civilization in loneliness that is increasing on. I partially agree with author that yes, the technological tools and their use has created a modern civilization with a ever growing loneliness. The creation of video games like play station, xbox is a big achievement for humans. But is it real big achievement?? Before video games were invented children use to play indoor as well as outdoor games, which have now forgotten after the existence of video games. Now childrens play video games alone in home with a bot player, leaving him alone to play. Another invention, television set, a technological tools for entertainment and knowledge. Prior people use to eat together on one dining table with love and affection but after television came, people prefered to eat in front of this luminating box when their favourite show is going on. Causing birth of loneliness in the family members. The good practice which were followed, are pushed off by this technological tools and leading the creation of loneliness So finally I conclude that yes technological tools and their uses have created modern civilizations in which loneliness is evr increasing. But if those tools used wisely it can overcome this loneliness.

130."How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society." Children are the future of a society, so each government invested a lot in education. The author implied people have not yet learned how to raise children, however, in my opinion, in range of children education, people have made great progress in many factors, the children's lives are much better than their eldership. At first, we can see that society paies many attentions to children's health. With the medical technology developing, the new born infant morality has declined greatly, the number of innate deformed babies has greatly droped compared with 40 years ago. For instence, in China, through the body inspection before marrige, the number of babies with innate disease are less. Due to the qaulity of modern life is improving, the average heigh and weigh of adulences are increasing too, all the statistic shows that the health situation of chinese children are much better than before. The educations for children in global has been greatly improved. According to statistics supplied by United Nations on 2003, the percentage of educated children increased 40% than 40 years ago, and more than 50 times funding were invested in developing countries's education. At the same time, more and more volunteers and scientists attending the researches about children psychology and charactors, and inventing more tools for children. Via the internet and instance communication system, more web sites help children reading and writing, global children can enjoy their more colorful childhood than their parents's. The formal education for children are improving quality and contents. Except for schools built by government, more and more private schools accept more children, including those deformed children. Various schools provide various choices for children. In the school, they can find the relative lessons whatever they want to be, study as their interests, they have more freedom and chance to imagine and attempt. In contemperary scoiety, the moral restraints have been less than before, to some extent, the society can understand their rebel. During the process of human civilizing, people have accumulated many experience about raising children, so modern youth have advantages to get more better educations from whole society, which destine the society will be better.
