  1. New to the forum! feel so grateful to find a place like this to discuss and share our journey, thanks in advance for your attention! I'm a 1st gen immigrant, got my master's in the US and am currently working in corporate america. I miss the intellectual challenge and freedom to learn, so have been considering a phd for over a year now. Finally retook my GMAT and below is my background. would love to connect with other OB applicants for US schools, so please reach out! Test Scores (GMAT/GRE): GMAT 740 (97%) Verbal 41(93%), Quant 49 (74%), Writing 5 (53%), IR 4 (38%) Undegrad GPA: 3.29/4 (little known school in China) Graduate GPA: 3.78/4 (ASU-Thunderbird, our grad business school got bought by ASU the year I graduated..) Research Experience: one published paper in 2013, second author, Journal of Media and Communication Studies Teaching Experience: N/A Work Experience: 3.5 of digital marketing in corporate in the U.S. Concentration Applying to: Organizational Behavior Number of programs planned to apply to: 7-8 Dream Schools: Harvard Business School Stanford INSEAD Other Questions: What made you want to pursue a PhD? Born in China, lived in South Korea and the US. As a 1st gen immigrant working in corporate America, I feel very restricted and find it so hard to be a high skilled immigrant worker who wants to contribute. Very passionate about the topic of engagement of high skilled immigrant workers in the developing world, acculturation process; also the digital nomad trend among the current generation crave for intellectual challenge and freedom to learn on a daily basis need freedom to learn rather than a set schedule Questions or concerns you have about your profile? low undergrad GPA low GMAT IR Section score, does that matter? I have a low score in my statistics class in my undergrad in 2012, will the adcom look at individual class scores? Any additional specific questions you may have: I have strong interest in European schools, but want to work in the US after graduation, do schools like IESE and INSEAD get good recognition in the US job market? Is there a community for OB specific applicants for 2019? especially intl students in the US?
  2. Immigrants should be forced to learn the country's language. In my opinion it should be left up to an immigrant's wish whether they want to learn the country's language or not. Enforcement will hardly result in a positive result. In fact it will result in development of enmity for the country in immigrants' heart as well as the world. And the country will see a few immigrants. I am an Indian and my native is the northern part of the country where Hindi is prevalent. Recently i got shifted to Chennai, a metropolitan city situated in the South India. Here the regional language is Tamil and people hardly know Hindi. Although English is a universal language but the blue collar people mostly use Tamil and don't know either Hindi or English. In such scenario, similar to as if I have migrated to a new nation, it is a daunting task to communicate. The only option left with me was to start learning Tamil as I have to stay here for long time. So it was my free will that I will learn the regional language. If I would have known that I have to learn Tamil forcefully if I want to live in Chennai, I wouldn't have gone to Chennai! One of my friend recently migrated to Germany where knowing German is must. The German embassy helps the immigrants to learn German and he was helped too. But he felt that Hitler's tyranny still prevails. Despite people know English there, they ask you to learn German! Although he learned German but along with that he also developed mild hatred for the country. He asked me not to visit the country unless you know German. Above examples are sufficient to sum up that immigrants should not be forced to learn the country's language. In fact they must be given friendly environment to grow and help their country to flourish.
  3. Hello there, My name is George, I'm a pharmacist from Syria. As a syrian citizen without any kind of visa to work in the US, is it possible for me to find a sponoser for my internship? What the odds are? Besides, now after the recession, where do pharmacists in the US stand? does the future look pomising for them? Because I have read somewhere that even US citizens are having trouble looking for internships nowadays, hope this is not true... Thanks for reading my post Best of Luck Join me at FPGEE On-line Study Group http://www.www.urch.com/forums/groups/fpgee-line-study-group.html
