Hello, this forum has been really helpful for gaining insights on colleges. I want to work after my Master in Economics and not directly pursue a Phd (maybe in the future, but not immediately) I mainly want to work in the International Development sector and with organizations like World Bank, IMF, UNDP etc. I am completing my undergrad in Economics from a very prestigious Indian University. Though my marks are average, my LORs are pretty good. I've applied to the following schools and which one do you think will give me a better opening in to the job sector I want to go to: UK: 1. LSE 2. UCL 3. Oxford 4. Cambridge 5. SOAS 6. St. Andrews USA: 1. Boston University 2. Duke 3. John Hopkins (I dont have much scope to get into US because Indian Undergrads are for 3 years relative to their requirement of 4 year undergrads and they usually prefer work experience before taking on people even for masters. Plus i dont think my GRE is good enough for Hopkins or Duke. But BU I am hoping for. ) other schools: Toulouse, Hong Kong University and Graduate Institute in Geneva. My main area of interest in Economics is: International economics and development.

Hi, I recently came to know about Yale's Masters programme in International Devpt and Economics. Wanted to know how good is it, if I want it to be my terminal degree and not currently pursuiing any PhD dreams. Some background info abt me: I'm an economics undergrad from an asian developing country. Have been working in energy and climate change consulting domain for two years - wish to go to back to school now. However, with my limited maths and not so stellar grades, a PhD Econ looks out of reach. Therefore I have been looking for terminal masters degress in econ which can provide me a job in pvt sector/think tank after i graduate. Any info on this course - in terms of it market value - would be highly appreciated. Thanks! PS: i searched for a forum on this course, but was not able to find one. Hence, a new thread

Hello all, This is my first time posting but I've read some very informative respones on other individuals' situations and hope I can find some guidance here! I am looking to gain admission to a PhD program in International Development, Political Economy, or Sustainable Development. I went to an undergrad institution in the top 30's and recieved a sad 2.7 gpa. That said, I was editor of two papers, headed a sustainability organization, worked full-time in the hospitality industry to pay for school, and held multiple relavant internships. Because of my low gpa, I'm wondering if a masters degree at a lesser school will help my application into a greater phd program. I live in Boston and was thinking about Economics at Suffolk (I've already studied Politics and Science so want to round out the development scene). That said, Suffolk isn't ranked for Economics but they have a program with courses and faculty that focus on development and I could take them part time/ still work topay off that undergrad. Does anyone have any words of wisdom on how to build up an application from a very good undergrad institution with a low gpa for a phd? Would a part time masters at a lesser institution help if the grades were fantastic? What if I add relevent research and possibly a publication?
