As title.Which tier should I apply? My background: My undergrad(U.S top 50 national university)gpa is 3.2. My grad(U.S top 10 master Econ program) gpa is 3.3. Math background: calculus 1(A-)2(A),3(A), one semester real analysis(B+)(Rudin principle of mathematical analysis), introduction of differential equation(A). linear Algebra(B-), introduction of probability theory(B+). Undergrad Game theory (A-) Master courses :Econometrics I(B) Econometrics II(B+) Econometrics III(B) Micro I(B+) Micro II(B). Macro I (B). My GRE is V 155 Q 167 AW3.5. No research experience. Not strong recommendation letter. I have a econ term paper (25 pages long). I also have several econ group project when I was undergrad. My target school:Temple, NCSU, Clemson, UC Riverside, SMU, U of Houston. I don’t worry about funding because my family can support me. Is there any possibility that I can get in top60-top 100 econ program? Which Econ PhD program is easy to get in? Thanks.

Hi all, I'm new to this forum, so I just thought I would introduce myself and ask for some advice while I'm at it. Home:Southeastern Pennsylvania Current Institution: McGill University, 2nd year Program: Joint Honours in Economics and English Literature (more on that below) Favorite Economist: Paul Krugman (I know it's cliché, but his tweets are savage) Post-Graduation Plan: Pursue a PhD in economics with a specialization in development economics So, now that that's out of the way, one of the main reasons I created an account here is because I really need some advice, whether that comes in the form of some unpleasant truth or some words of comfort (of course I'd prefer the latter, but please do be honest). For starters, it is true that the English component of my degree is mostly a personal passion thing; that being said, it also serves a practical purpose. The bare Honours Econ degree here does not guarantee that you will be able to get research experience; however, with the Joint Honours with English, I will likely get to write a research paper that will be interdisciplinary, and right now it looks like it might be as much as 30% hard econ research, which I figure can't hurt on an application. My advisors have assured me that as long as I continue to do well in my econ and math courses–with the exception of two semesters of French, all my electives outside of Econ and English will be math–the fact that my English degree has little to no bearing on econ won't hurt me on grad school apps. That being said, I am an extremely anxious person, and while I love my English courses and, for both the personal and practical reasons, likely won't give up the English component, I am still a bit worried about my overall appeal to grad schools. I am currently in my second of three years at McGill (I am graduating a year early thanks to a lot of AP credits) so I will be starting to get my apps together over the summer. I am including hear a personal profile/brief CV, as well as a tentative, though fairly solid, list of grad schools I plan on applying to. I'm just putting this out there to see what sorts of advice you guys might have, in the hopes that things aren't as bad as I think but with the understanding that I may get back advice I don't like. So here it goes: NB: the highest grade you can get at McGill is an A, no A+s here CGPA: 3.93 GRE: 167Q, 167V, 6AW Econ courses completed by graduation w/ grades if available: Honours Micro (2 semesters, A), Economic Development (A), Honours Macro (2 semesters), Honours Econometrics (2 semesters), Honours Advanced Theory (2 semesters), 2 electives (one of which will hopefully be an independent research project and the other a masters level course) Math courses completed by graduation w/ grades if availble: Calc 1 (AP Credit), Calc 2 (A-), Calc 3 (A), Advanced Calculus, Intro to Stats 1 (AP Credit), Intro to Stats 2 (A), Linear Algebra and Geometry (A), Ordinary Differential Equations, Real Analysis Other Info: small but paid internship this past summer (figure this won't count for much), Skype tutor kids in Kenya for an NGO my development prof runs (the only reason this might count is because my intended stream is development), helped to found an egalitarian Jewish group on campus, writer for the Business Review, made Dean's Honours List my first year Again, any advice is appreciated. Since Jews are already VERY well represented in this field, could that be a point against me?

Hello all, Been browsing the forum for a short while now. Trying to learn as much about obtaining an Accounting PhD. About me: School: In process of transferring to larger state school (AACSB) Year: Junior Major: Accounting, hoping to minor in Math GMAT: Haven't taken, yet (Next summer is the plan) Research Interests: All over. So far I've been reading different types of research papers. Financial Accounting and Risk are interesting, as well as Behavioral. Additionally, I have no research or directly related work experience. FWIW I'm also an Army vet, so it is not like I am a young/immature college student with no direction. Anyways, I'm hoping to use this site to help guide me in preparing for getting into a "T20" school for accounting.

Hello! I recently retook my GMAT (last GMAT was more than 5 years old), the good news was that I am in the 96th percentile in verbal!! Yay!! However, my 38th percentile in quant (the only part that I studied) is kind of bumming me out. As long as I'm putting it all out there, 650 overall, Q36, V42, IR6, AWA5. My practice scores were much better, though I do not want to go to a top tier school unless I can go abroad. I will be applying to marketing programs at both FSU and UCF, and then I will retake the GMAT and try to get to France! Hi Everyone, Just wanted to say a quick hi and thank you for all the great discussion and guidance that I've gotten just by reading all your posts and experiences. Here are a couple facts about me. I'm a prospective Ph.D. applicant interested in Organizational Behavior. Received my B.A. in international Studies from the University of Washington and a M.A. in Transformational Leadership from Seattle University. Worked for 5 years in the City of Seattle Human Services Department progressively as a youth tutor, youth development counselor, program coordinator, and lastly organizational strategic advisor. I have two strong general interest areas of research (1) organizational methods for building employment capacity (2) and maximizing organizational effectiveness. Thought I'd have this on the record, and perhaps get some recommendations about where to hang out around here to for the most learning and contribution ASAP. I'm a recent grad from UCSD's Rady School of Management (Full-time 2011) I'm working in marketing at an exciting start-up. I love my job, but I don't think industry is the right fit for me in the long-term, so I'm looking into PhD programs in a couple years. There are two reasons I'm here early: 1) I don't know what I want to study yet exactly 2) I don't have an ideal academic background, so I want to spend the next few years doing things that will prepare me to get into, contribute to, and succeed in a PhD program. This forum looks like a great place, I'm looking forward to learning and sharing. I'm totally new at the PhD hunt, but I've done the whole B-School thing (& interned with admissions) and will happily share about that. Feel free to link to a related thread. Cheers!

Hello Everyone, I am currently wrapping up a MAcc program in Utah. I was encouraged by a professor to look into PHD Programs prior to starting graduate work and have slowly moved in that direction. I will be taking the GMAT shortly and plan to apply to accounting PHD programs for fall 2012. Hopefully I can be of help to others and gain a little insight on how to put my best foot forward.
