  1. Hi Everyone, This is my first post on urch and I recently took my second GRE practice test. Please find below my issue essay question stem along with the response. Please rate my response and kindly highlight my improvement areas. Thanks in advance. Undergraduate students majoring in Business or in the Sciences should not be required to take any courses in the Humanities since those courses won’t benefit their future careers. Write a response to the prompt in which you discuss whether or not you agree or disagree. Be certain to fully develop your position and carefully consider ways in which your position could be challenged. A student always learns multiple things during the course of his/her education. Not everything is futile, and not everything is useful. Having a well rounded understanding of all topics can help students deliver better results in the long run. Hence, I disagree with the stance taken in the prompt about undergraduate students majoring in fields such as Business or Science to not take courses in other fields such as Humanities for primarily two reasons. To begin, education is something that can never be commensurated in terms of limit i.e. it is very rare for any field to be so niche that it deems knowledge gained in that field as sufficient. Over the years, we have observed multiple fields converging with each other to beget stupendous results. To illustrate this, we can take the example of the economics and finance that are a beautiful amalgation of mathematics /calculations and human elements that impact the imminent trends in the market. To estimate sales of a product, the company can have calculations based on statistical data that could determine what should be behavior of market in the upcoming months, but analyzing the confidence of people in the product and understanding the need of the hour for people can really help take the prediction to much higher levels of precision. Thus, based on the above argument, we can say that having knowledge of other fields can act as a boon. Further, having a wholistic approach and understanding of topics definitely helps people blur the lines and transition between fields on a need basis. An idea to support the argument would be to look at Elon Musk who is a perfect embodiment of science and humanitarian shades. He has a pioneer in the field of science and technology for a very long time and has benefitted the technology world with products and his companies such as PayPal, Tesla, SpaceX etc. But the vision that he carries to carry the human race to Mars in the upcoming years is only a testament to his humanitarian aspect that can truly be achieved if one delves deep into humanities along with science. Thus diving deeper proves beneficial in the long run and can be proved by many such examples. Having said that, there is another way to look at it by considering learning things apart from the field of specialization of the individual can turn him/her into "jack of all trades, master of none." This is obliquely possible, but on the contrary, a person who is focused on his field of specialization will definitely find it easier to accommodate the knowledge gained from other fields in a way that does not impact his/her current ability to master the desired field. In fact, an erudite person is expected to utilize the gained knowledge in his/her field to yield better results. To put it succintly, knowledge never goes in vain. To conclude the response, I would like to disagree with the argument and state with the help of the above given points that undergraduate students majoring in Business or in the Sciences should be required to take courses in other fields such as Humanities to help them benefit in the long run.
  2. Topic: Not everything that is learned is contained in books. Compare and contrastknowledge gained from experience with knowledge gained from books. In your opinion, which source is more important? Why? Everyone has their own preferred way to gain knowledge. I agree with statement that not everything learned is contained in books. I feel that way for two reasons which i will try to convince in the following paragraphs. First of all, we can find very personal advice from cyber source, such as blog, video log and beauty website, and from communication easily. Recently, it is been popular to share one's personal experience over social media which is practised and valued for that person. Also, you can see if things written in books are actually real from personal results. For instance, I saw many videos made for to check if some kind of home remedies and hacks are true. Some of those were total failures if I were to try for myself. Moreover, as an graduate striving to find very helpful but rare professional papers to gain knowledge, it is easy to find from internet. Depending on where one lives, studies or works, finding books from reliable source is hard. For example, I felt that way when I was in university and studied about rare earth elements, because that specialised field of study was not popular in my country. At that time all source I could search for scientific paper was internet, which was easy accessible. In addition, becoming cyber is environmentally friendly as we do not need to print on papers. For these reasons I presented, I believe the most important source to gain knowledge is internet which might also help environmental conservation.
  3. To thrive with attainment in this expeditiously changing world, one need to be determined for outreaching the insignia of victory. Though our future legacy is under dominance of our being self-restraint, but at the same time it is paved by the necessity of the world. I personally adhere to the fact that, visualizing the alluring success spectrum is conditioned on casting knowledge, experience, motivation and dedication. What sets me apart from many others is passion to explore the new scientific dimensions and keep on thriving for the new. I have a strong obsession to work and enrich my skills in modern day technologies, like Geological Surveys, Geographical Information System (GIS), Petroleum, Mining last but not the least Geological engineering in general. For this I have acquainted myself with modern design methodologies and theoretical concepts by attaining sufficient knowledge and field works. The world is at a verge of dramatic change in terms of future technologies specifically in terms of earth, environment, geology and sustainable green solutions. So it’s the core obli- gation on geologists to provide the legible dynamic solutions. My BS final year project was ”Structrual Mapping of Besham Area, Northwest Pakistan” in which we used surveying, mapping and other technical aspects to formulate the problem and provided the solution which was accepted in academia. If interested, a detailed description on this can be provided through my thesis. Please feel free to contact me for further queries, if any.

  5. Topic :- A teacher’s ability to relate well with students is more important than excellent knowledge of the subject being taught. There is saying in my country “A good teacher can make student culminate greatness and a bad teacher can equally plunged student down”. Teacher plays a very important part in the life of student. He is not only responsible for student’s subjective knowledge but for his personality as well. There is numerous example which can be easily found in mankind history. I do believe that a teacher ability to relate well with students supersede profound knowledge of the subject being taught. Although, a teacher should have decent knowledge of the subject being taught if not excellent. A potter need to know the properties of clay like whether it is smooth or rough when wet, whether it get dried quickly, how much strength of clay and so on. There is a reason behind this. As all types of clay tends to behave differently than others: what may work with one type of clay, it might not work with another. Based on this understanding, potter work with shapeless clay to derive some beautifully shaped structure. Same analogy can be applied to teacher-student relationship. A teacher plays the role of potter in shaping a student mind. And to do this effectively, teacher need to understand and relate to the student. If a teacher is able relate to the students, he or she will have profound impact on students than the teacher with excellent knowledge but little understanding of student. One Such example can be story of a boy named Alex and his teacher Ram. Alex was suffering of dyslexia and was having difficulties in learning even though he was studying in one of the best school of city which had most educated and recondite teachers. But it took one art teacher Ram to help Alex ameliorate his studies performance. Ram empathetic of Alex’s condition, developed teaching method based on the fact around the Alex’s predilection towards drawing and colors. Ram encourage Alex to see words and mathematics as he would think about his drawing and colors. This led to striking change in Alex’s study results. He scored well in every subject and went on to become one of the most successful student of his batch. Here, Ram’s ability to understand Alex’s condition and use Alex’s liking for drawing shaped Alex into a successful person. All teacher with excellent knowledge was not able to help him due to mere fact that they were not able to relate his struggles. Although, some people will gainsay that a teacher need to have excellent knowledge of subject being taught to give a thorough knowledge to a student. I agree to them to an extent. A teacher must have a decent knowledge of the subject being taught. If a teacher has decent knowledge of the subject and can relate to student, even with his limited knowledge he can inspire student to work harder and learn the subject. As with the story of Ram and Alex in which Ram even though limited knowledge of other subject inspired Alex to work harder and achieve success. teacher always have important role in the life of students. A teacher with excellent knowledge of subject might not be able to stimulate the mind of the student due to lack of understanding of his students. On the other hand, if a teacher can relate to student, he or she can inspire them work harder towards their goals. Although, teacher do require to have certain amount of knowledge as to ignite student’s understanding towards the subject.
