I was formally accepted to a PhD program I am really excited about. In my SOP I stated that I would be taking some “proof-based courses this spring”, but I’d like to drop them. I didn’t mention it on a course list or anywhere else, let alone what courses they are — just one sentence in my SOP. Do you think I could drop the courses? Do you think they’ll be checking?

The 5 letters in the list G, H, I, J, K are to be rearranged so that G is the 3rd letter in the list and H is not next to G. How many such rearrangements are there? I thought that "is not next to G" means that H does not go after G. But according to the official explanation, it means H goes neither after G nor before G

Hi everyone! I am applying this year intake for PhD Economics. In my SOP I have cited a couple of paper as my inspiration/motivation; shall I make a reference list at the end of my SOP? or I skip it since it increases number of pages ? Thank you

Hello everyone! I'm prepping to apply to doctoral programs in accounting. My interest is in behavioral accounting. Is there a list somewhere that shows schools that specialize in behavioral accounting?

Just a question I've been curious about: when people on this forum (or in academic economics in general) refer to a school's ranking, is there any one source that they are going by? From AEA's website, there are a number of different lists and methodologies behind rankings (American Economic Association), and although we know the likely suspects in the top 5, top 10, maybe even top 20, particularly as you go lower in the rankings it seems there can be a fair amount of variance from list to list. Is there any "gold standard" that economists use to assess a PhD program's position? Or do people just not care about that so much?

Hi all, Thought it may be helpful to aggregate a list of schools still accepting applications past the new year. I know for me I decided a bit late in the game to apply to programs and so a list like this would have been really helpful. So I will kick start it: In Europe: Frankfurt School of Finance & Management (Doctoral Programme in Finance, Management & Accounting | Frankfurt School) HEC Paris (Application Process | HEC Paris | Business school | Master | MBA | Executive MBA | Specialized Master | MSc | PhD | Executive Education) EM Lyon (Apply to the PhD programme: management and entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship research - EMLYON Business School) ETH Zurich (PhD Position in Management and Organizations (100%) - Academic Positions) University of Laussane (Graduate Assistant in Strategic Management and Innovation - Academic Positions) NHH Norwegian School of Economics (https://academicpositions.com/ad/norwegian-school-of-economics-nhh/2018/phd-research-scholar-positions-in-strategy-and-management/121464) ERIM - Erasmus Rotterdam (https://academicpositions.com/ad/erasmus-university-rotterdam/2018/phd-positions-in-business-and-management-at-erasmus-research-institute-of-management-erim/120582)

Hi all, I am in progress application to U of Minnesota. I am very confused about math and econ prep form. I majored in econ at undergraduate and master's program so my econ and math courses are over 20. Then do I have to list them all? Or, can I list only 8 courses - because the form has 8 lines-in which I got good grades?

GRE: Verbal 165 (95%), Quant 159 (74%) *this was a long time out of school and I have studied and will retake Undegrad GPA: 3.51 Undergrad Degree: Design (merit scholarships) Graduate GPA: 3.82 Graduate Degree: MS Marketing (merit scholarships) Research Experience: I have a thesis paper for my MS degree Teaching Experience: I was a TA 1 year for a Java Programming course Work Experience: Significant work experience (10 years) up to director level in marketing (specifically in design management) Concentration applying to: Marketing (Innovation, New Products) Number of programs planned to apply to: 15-20 Dream schools: NYU, Columbia, Duke WhyPhD: I became extraordinarily interested in creativity and innovation during my career and masters studies. I have researched and written a great deal on marketing tech and design thinking but nothing published. It has really spurred me and I could see myself spending a career in the field. My Questions: 1. I am retaking GRE after months of studying so my scores should improve. Will great GRE score help me possibly get into a Top 10 or Top 30 school? 2. If I can apply to 15-20 schools how many top schools if any should I put in my list? 3. Also I am a little confused about ranking. Is everyone here referring to the UT-Dallas list or the US News MBA list or something else when classifying schools by rank?

I am waitlisted by the Tinbergen Institute. In their jargon it is the long list. I wonder how hard it is to be accepted from the long list. Any thoughts/experiences are welcomed.

Do you think this list is overkill? https://phd.chicagobooth.edu/alexander.zentefis/wp-content/uploads/projects/book_list.pdf

[h=1]What universities do you recommend me for applying for PhD in management (probably marketing)[/h] Wadup, fam? So here's my profile: BS electronics engineering in Guatemala, 3.1 GPA. Master in Management Tulane, 3.8 GPA. GRE 152V 158Q. Relevant experience 3 years (1 year working in Microsoft as trainee and now Mrktn Manager for 13 countries in Microsoft). I got my master's thesis submitted for publication and I've been teaching assistant before. I know this falls short for MIT, but which universities you reckon would give me a serious chance? Thanks

Hi everyone, I would like to get in somewhere with enough funding because money is an issue, but I'm also applying to the Smith College math post-bac program for women and jobs at the Federal Reserve and economic consulting firms as back-ups, so things will be good. I think I would like to enter academia after the Ph. D., but I haven't tried private sector work, so I don't know if that'd be just as good, so I guess I'd just like options. I'll be graduating next year with an Economics B.A. with Mathematics minor from UCLA. My current GPA is 3.5 overall and 3.7 major. I've taken Linear Algebra and am currently taking Real Analysis and Partial Differential Equations during the summer. I'll take more math classes my senior year, including Optimization and Mathematical Economics in the fall. My GRE score was 170/170/5.5. I did an undergraduate independent research project about Zipf's law in urban economics, and I was a research assistant for one year for a graduate student working on her dissertation in public finance. I'll be starting as a research assistant this fall for the professor who advised my independent research project. I'm interested in all research fields equally. I'm thinking I should apply to ten schools: UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, Berkeley, Caltech, UC Davis, Duke, NYU, Georgetown, and Columbia (where my adviser went). Which schools should I add or remove? I'm concerned about whether I'd be uncomfortable as an Asian female in the Midwest or South. Does anyone with experience here think I should be concerned? I'm also concerned that half are public schools, and I need funding, so should I apply to more private schools instead? Thank you very much for any advice and suggestions! I hope everyone's having a good summer :)
