  1. Hi everyone, As admission decisions roll out for a number of graduate school programs, I am curious to see how many people have applied to the Western Mfe program, who has/has yet to hear back, where people stand with accepting their offers, and what other programs they have applied to. I am new to the Urch forums so I'm not quite sure how much of an audience this post will receive, but here goes nothing! Hope to hear back from some of ya!

CGPA: 7.06/10 (non-relative) Research: Joint Econometric Research on Microfinance Models in India (Top Ranking paper in University) GRE: VA:650/QA:760/AW:4.0 (defintely re-taking) IELTS score: 8.5/9.0 Grad: MBA in Finance/Capital Markets (from top 10 Indian B Schools) CGPA: 3.15/4.0 (relative) (always been in top 10 of batch) Work: Working as a financial consultant/ business analyst for 10 months now. LOR: Professors who are not famous but head one of the best foreign policy think tanks in India. Achievements: CFA Research Challenge 2013-14: Asia-Pacific Champion, 1st Runner-up at Global Finals (only four teams qualify globally) Research areas: Finance, Rural, Development. What Should be my min GRE target? Do I have any chance in LSE/Oxbridge for MFE, if not what should I be looking at? Other Unis im considering are University of Texas, Toulouse, California-Berkeley. Which Unis should I aim for in the US for Ph.D Finance?
  3. Hi all, Has any of you heard back from UofT's Masters of Economics program yet? Im getting a little nervous... They say the program is very competitive. Anyone mind sharing their candidate profiles?
  4. Hello everyone, I have some difficulty in choosing my academic future after finishing an econ master, any advice will be truthfully appreciated!! PROFILE: Type of Undergrad: major in financial engineering, one university in China Undergrad GPA: 3.5 Type of Grad: Master of Science in Policy Economics, UIUC Grad GPA: 3.8+ GRE: 450+800(quantitative)+3.5 Math Courses: linear algebra, real analysis, statistics, probability and mathematical statistics, advanced mathematics(calculus) Econ Courses (grad-level): micro, macro, econometrics, statistics, time series, development, game theory Econ Courses (undergrad-level): micro, macro, international econ, econometrics, financial econ Other Courses: financial engineering, statistics experiment, financial metrology experiment, many other financial courses during undergrad. Letters of Recommendation: MSPE professors, my internship leader from one bank in China Research Experience: 6 financial metrology expeiments ( seasonal adjustment, time series, ARMA...) each is 20-40 pages. Teaching Experience: N/A Research Interests: finance and economic market, movies, investment, math, financial engineering, industry, behavior, psychology, risk SOP: one article published during undergrad, relating to hot money issue. Concerns: I still have extra time to take more gruduate courses, but I am not sure which course should I take. My graduate program does not seem to be an excellent one for preparation for Econ PhD. And I did not take the PhD track (regreting). Are my math courses enough? My research interests are too too broad so it lacks of focus. Other: internship in 2 departments in a China bank, finance club vice president, student union vice president, good command of Eviews and video making Applying to: this is exactly where I have trouble, I want to apply Econ PhD and Financial Engineering Master at the same time (maybe minor in movie field), and choose program base on the apply result. I appreciate any advice of programs which is likely to give me admission in USA, Canada or Euro. I am not sure which rank of school should I focus on? And any recommend forum to discuss financial engineering issue? I appreciate your time for reading my profile, and thanks a lot guys!!:encouragement:
  5. Hello all, So i am seriously considering an MFE degree, but i have a lot of doubts about my chances of getting in top 10 /15 programs, this program being so focused it would be a waste of time and money if i don't get into a program that has good placement stats (if i'm wrong please correct me). My profile is extremely different from what these grad schools look for and i am really not sure if it is in my advantage or not. I graduated from a french public high school (public being the most reputable in france) with a major in Physics and Chemistry, Math was pretty advanced as well i then went to Drexel University where i graduated in Bus Admin with a Major in finance (pretty relaxed) i did very well in all my finance course and pretty much all the basic scientific courses that were required (A's in almost all of them, Math 101 and 102, Stat 201 and 202 etc...) in fact the level of math, stat and prob was way below what i studied in my junior year in high school. that's pretty much my academic background. I then went on to work for 5 years at BlackRock doing data integrity work where i was a senior associate it involved a lot of SQL and exposure to FI structured and deriv plus the heavy use to their in-house analytics and risk reporting tools (no programming experience) i also managed teams there and remotely (india) and worked in some very interesting projects while i was there (BlackRock was considered as the go to firm during the fin crisis, so we had a lot of risk reporting assignments to worked on), after 5 years i left BlackRock and went back home, while in Morocco i co-founded a startup and we launched North africa's first mobile coupon website, we raised capital, had a good amount of paying clients, employed 8 to 10 people and were well known locally and had multiple press articles written about us (Morocco's ecommerce world is very weak so new ventures are not as common as in the usa) later on we decided to sell our stakes to a fund who offered us a decent amount (less than 500k which is huge for us). I now want to go back into finance in the US (i am a citizen, dual) but i want to get into front office gigs in IB / S&T or even consulting, therefore i need to get the degree. I am not sure if my profile is something that a top 20 MFE program would be interested in. I looked at their class profiles and most are from a recent math UG program and are already skilled programers and foreigners with prob no work visa, which is not my case (so maybe that would help in the admission process??) Help, advice veryyyyyyy welcome. What should i do guys?
