I have been put on Minnesota waitlist. According to a poster on this forum it seems that UMN has been admitting people from the waitlist. Can anyone else confirm? A thread to share anxiety and information as well, similar to the Duke thread.

BC has strong empirical faculty but its accounting PhD program is relatively new. Minnesota has strong faculty in analytical and its empirical strength has improved a lot. How to choose between these three programs? Any comments will be much appreciated!

I have been accepted both in Maryland (21k) and Minnesota (23k), and I do not know what to choose. I know Minnesota is great in Macro, but even though I used to like Macro I like it less and less every day. So, nowadays I think I do not want to focus on Macro for my research, and neither I want to focus in empirical IO which is the other strength of Minnesota. I am more interested now in applied micro and issues of Development and Political Econ. Because of these reasons now I am leaning towards Maryland rather than Minnesota. Also in terms of location I prefer the weather of Washington DC than the one of Twin Cities. However I am afraid of taking that path, since in terms of placement Minnesota is far better than Maryland. Am I crazy if I choose Maryland over Minnesota? Please share your opinions.

I'm most interested in Macro. Most people have told me that Minnesota is stronger in Macro, but Wisconsin is stronger in anything empirical, and both places are very cold. I hear people without strong empirical skills have a hard time on the job market. Both have given me similar financial packages. I just... don't know.

Hello friends! I'm planning to apply for Quantitative Marketing programs this year (and hopefully start in 2019). I came up with a list of departments where faculty research topics that interest me. The thing is, I have only a very rough idea of how these departments compare in terms of ranking. I looked at the UTD and US news rankings, but I'm not sure if the first one takes into account department size and the second one is an MBA ranking (which is maybe some kind of b-school prestige ranking?). I would like to know the opinion of folks around here. How would you rank the following schools: Minnesota, Rochester, Toronto, Michigan, Southern California, UCSD, Maryland, Wash U (Olin)? Are they even in the same tier (top 10, 20, 30)? Also if anybody can contribute with information we would normally have only after enrolling (or visiting), it would be greatly appreciated. For example, I heard the attrition rate at Chicago Booth is high, Wisconsin and Minnesota are in regions really cold while San Diego and Berkeley have perfect weather, Columbia is located in a very expensive region, Rochester is very specialized, etc.
