Hi everyone! I will move to Madrid the next year so I'm planning to apply to PhDs in Economics there. After some research on the internet, I found UC3M and CEMFI are the best programs in the city. However, I do not know more details about them. Please, if any insider read this post, can you give me some insights about the two programs? I know there are some posts about these schools but I would like to get updated information. The attrition rate How is the quality of the training? The main strengths The best professors The support on the Ph.D. process How good was the job market this year? Ex-ante, I would like to specialize in macroeconomics and econometrics. Hello guys :) I am considering Economics Ph.D. programs in Europe, especially at Toulouse School of Economics(TSE), France. I was able to compare the job market placement between TSE and other 30-40 ranked schools in the US. TSE is comparable to which level of schools in US? Would there be disadvantages to pursuing econ Ph.D. in Europe rather than in the U.S.? I'm currently an undergrad at the LSE studying Econ and Phil BSc and I am keen on studying the MSc Econ and Phil at LSE. I've spoken to the relevant admissions people, and I believe it's likely that they will accept me. In particular, I think it's more likely that I get accepted here than for pure economics MScs at LSE and other good universities (UCL, Oxbridge). Moreover, I am also interested in pursuing a PHD after my Masters. I'm slightly worried that not doing a pure economics MSc will reduce the chances of getting into a competitive PHD after my Masters. I believe I can compensate with publications since I'm currently co-authoring some game theory papers with my professors, however, I'm not sure this will be enough. On the other hand being at LSE for my MSc will likely mean that it will be easier to get into the MRes & PHD at the LSE since the relevant professors will get to know me. Secondly, if I decide to do my PHD in the United States, it might be less important for me to have a great Masters degree since most applicants will lack masters degrees anyway. Do these last two considerations make sense, or should I consider doing an MSc in Econ at a slightly less good university? ---- Also, I really do enjoy Econ Phil, because it allows me to study Mathematical logic, set theory, computation and some other great fields.

I am considering of doing PhD in economics in Europe. I have fairly normal profile (international studentgood grades in math analysis classes and grad level econ courses plus 170q in gre and decent TOEFL score). I know there are many decent programmes in economics in Europe such as Tilburg, Barcelona GSE, Tinbergen,Stockholm... But I assume that the competition to those programmes is very fierce and given the fiscal problems EU countries are facing the funding opportunities in many of those schools, I assume, must have diminished significantly. Plus the PhD admission process is very idiosyncratic, an applicant could be rejected based on several reasons that are not in his control. Hence i was wondering what are other schools in Europe (2nd, 3rd tier) programmes that provide funding and have normal research environment. Good luck to everyone :)
