My Target Scores

  1. Just wondering if anyone have got accepted to give FPGEE after doing B pharmacy plus 3 year post baccalaureate ?
  2. Recently discovered this program and I'm thinking I might be a good fit. However, they don't post any info on placements into PhD programs. Does anyone know if it's worth it?
  3. [h=2]Accounting / Finance PhD Profile Evaluation[/h] Profile Evaluation (Accounting / Finance PhD) Hi, I am planning to apply for accounting and finance PhD for coming fall 2020. I would really appreciate it if you share some thoughts of what school range I should target. Education: - Undergraduate: East Asia, well-reputed university, major: Business, double major: Mathematics; GPA: 3.7 - Graduate: US Private, Operations Research: GPA:3.6 - Econ classes (Undergraduate): Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Game Theory - Math (Undergrad + Grad): Calculus, Linear Algebra, Mathematical Probability and Statistics, ODE, PDE, Mathematical Finance, Optimization, Real Analysis, Abstract Algebra, Topology - Programming: Algorithms, Data Structure, Simulation - Python, R, MATLAB Test score: - GRE: V161/Q170/AW4.0 - TOEFL R28/L30/S23/W24 Research experience: - Graduate research assistant - Writing a Python code for an option pricing model - Research assistant while preparing for PhD application - spreadsheet data cleaning and data support for a structural systemic risk for the credit markets Work experience: - Consulting Internship - Full time quantitative research analyst for an asset management company - implementing investment strategies from replication papers from academia (2 years) Letter: - Professor from undergraduate b-school professor (Research Dean, previous research together, maybe good letter) - Professor from graduate statistics professor (Did very well in the class, but no research together, good to mediocre letter) - Co-worker at the company (Developed investment model together; yet not a PhD, maybe good letter) Others: - FRM(I & II), CFA I - I don't think this will affect anyway in the PhD applications though Questions or concerns you have about your profile? - While in the graduate program, I cross-registered MBA Finance course and I did pretty bad. Will this fact somehow affect my PhD application either in Accounting or Finance? - Compared to students coming from solid business school background, I lack research experience with US b-school professors. Does it significantly lower my chance to get into Top 30 Finance program? - Even though I do not have much academic research experience with b-school professors, my job is highly related with replicating models introduced in academic/practitioner's papers. Can this fact supplement the lack of academic research experience? - I plan to get a letter from my co-worker who does not hold a PhD but can support in the aspects of data handling, programming and details about research at the company. However, I can also think of getting another letter from the professor who is well-reputed in his area (quantitative finance) who I had a short research with but am not very confident about the relationship (as I didn't take his classes). It seems pretty unpredictable what the professor is going to write in the letter if I ask. Maybe "I did a short-term research with him and he supported in writing a code, that's all I know about this candidate" would be the best that he can say and if this is the case, is it worth taking the risk to get the letter from the professor? - I am targeting Top 20 Accounting and Top 30-50 Finance PhD programs and is it reasonable to think of this range? I really appreciate your time reading my post. Please share any thoughts of my profile! Thank you very much ahead!:eager:
  4. I've tried to publish a post but it is under moderation. I don't know how to check the status. In fact, I cannot even see the post in my personal account. I apologize that the formatting for my post was a bit substandard. How to check the status of moderation process and revise and resubmit my post? By the way, since I am interested in both Econ and B-School PhD, are we allowed to publish two related posts under the two sub-forum? I was just submitting the posts and I apologize for any inconvenience if this is not allowed by our forum rules.
  5. Please let me know If I can delete a post (reply) posted by me. I tried to edit and there is no delete option!
  6. Hi everyone, I found that U of T seems to eliminate the doctoral stream from their application website and I was told by them they no longer distinguish between doctoral and regular stream, but you can still choose phd courses if interested. But I saw on GC some people still post they are admitted to the doctoral stream. Does anyone receive an offer explicitly indicating you are admitted to the doctoral stream or just mention it as an option for you? And do you think MA at UofT is still a good choice if they no long have the doctoral stream. Thanks.
  7. Hey guys, I know, my post looks a lot like others but there are some specifities to my case that pushed me to create my own post. I've read basically every old posts regarding European masters and I am still left uncertain as to my choice. It was pointless applying to EME as my maths background is not adequate, yet, I have received offers from several programs and having eliminated the others, I'm left with CEMFI and LSE Economics masters. I was admitted to CEMFI without funding, nor tuition waiver, otherwise I would have chosen CEMFI straight away, saving this forum from my post. My end goal is a top PhD program but the thing is, as I come from a rather low family income, I would have to take a loan for either programs, which I would have to reimburse right after the master. It means I'll have to work for 1 to 2 years after the master at CEMFI and 2 to 3 years after LSE's (estimated on the wages of my high-income home country, Switzerland). First of all, am I right to think that, from the PhD perspective, CEMFI's program is better in terms of preparation and doesn't come far in terms of reputation ? I am more worried about the job market CEMFI is a small institution and less known to the public, so I am wondering whether the CEMFI is good if you intend to work ? Or would I be better off going to LSE, work say 2 years in industry and 1 year as RA? Maybe some people that have been to the CEMFI and have seen classmates going to the industry could help me there ? The fact that CEMFI would cost me about 20'000$ less, has a small incoming class, researchers that look concerned about their master's student and has a two year program make me favor it. Yet, I cannot deny that LSE's MSc Econ teachers have a stellar CV and be taught by some of them would probably be a thrilling experience and the institution has a strong brand name.
  8. Hi, I'll be applying to University of Toronto for PhD in CS (AI and ML) and would really appreciate it if you could please guide me. Undergrad Degree: Manufacturing Processes and Automation Engineering Undergrad Univ: University of Delhi Undergrad CGPS: 7.99/10 2 Years of Workex in Data Science and Analytics Post Grad Degree: MBA (International Business) Post Grad College: Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Delhi (Government college) Post Grad CGPA: 3.67/4.33 I'll be soon joining a firm as an Analytics Consultant. So, following are my questions: 1. Is my profile good enough for a PhD in AI and ML from UoT? 2. If not, then what should i do to improve my profile i.e. get more work ex, pursue some certifications etc.? 3. What should be my test scores i.e. what should i aim at scoring in GRE in order to get into the PhD program?
  9. Hello All, My name is Ayesha. I am a student. I hope this forum will help me with my preparation. Thank You
  10. http://www.www.urch.com/forums/open/143595-low-econ-gpa-top-ugrad-current-research-future-math-ma-plans-phd.html#post920199 http://www.www.urch.com/forums/showthread.php?t=144049 I want both of these posts need to be deleted because they reveal some personal information that I do not want revealed. I asked for this and was refused numerous times; please reconsider and delete these posts, not just move them to the members-only forum. I think I have a right to ask this even though your policy states that you don't 'normally' delete posts upon request, I think in this case, there is a conflict between the right to be forgotten and the right of the Urch forum to retain information deemed helpful for its users. The above posts are causing me occasional anxiety, worry and hopelessness because of worries of identity breach, thus affecting my physical and emotional health negatively. I urge you to strongly consider deleting both posts, especially the second one, which has no replies and thus offers no help to Urch users anyway. The first one which is in the members' forum is still not confidential as the number of members is still quite numerous. If I could, I want to ask for help from a lawyer who could advise me on whether my request could in fact be upheld by law, otherwise if the law is strict in its upholding of individual forum rules concerning post deletion and so forth, I would acquiesce. If my request can be legally made a case, then please consider deleting both posts for the sake of my rights. THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION.
  11. Hello friends! Longtime lurker, first time poster. Hope to get to know y'all better.
