My Target Scores

  1. Hi everyone, If anyone here is preparing for their GRE and wants to improve their score, get used to the test taking environment, etc. Then I recommend to use gre mocks for your practice. So here, I am having total 15 mocks (kaplan5, Manhattan6 and Princeton4) which I had purchased but is kept unused. If anyone of you is interested feel free to do a private message.
  2. Posting for a friend who's not on this forum. He's choosing between HBS, MIT, Princeton and Stanford. Interested broadly in behavioral/experimental/micro theory - not really committed to any field but that's the neighborhood. How would you rank the choices and why?
  3. Hi everyone! I'm an international student and I have received admission to both program. I'm mainly interested in monetary economics, New Dynamic Public Finance and heterogeneous-agents Macro so it seems to be a choice between two luxury goods. However, if Chicago's reputation is somewhat frightening, I had the sentiment that the department is now on the rise with the arrival of Kaplan and Golosov (even if Princeton has replaced them well with Violante and Jarosch). Furthermore, in terms of placements both departments seem comparable. Am I missing something ? Thank you in advance!
  4. Hey all, I just went over a math question in the Princeton Review GRE 2014, and I am not sure if the book made a mistake or not in coming to its answer The question: a/xs = 632 and a/ys = 158 Quantity A = x Quantity B = y Answers: Is Quantity A greater? Quantity B greater? The two quantities equal? The relationship cannot be determined? So the book says that the correct answer is that Quantity B is greater. I totally understand why that can be true: you can plug in a = 632 and solve for x and y, and you see that y is 4 times greater than x (x = 1s, y = 4s) However, couldn't you also plug in a = -632. If "a" is negative, then x and y could be negative values; dividing the negative a by the negative x or y gives you the positive answers. If this was the case, though, then x would be greater than y, since a greater negative number is actually less. If you solve the same way above but plugging in a = -632, then x = -1s and y = -4s ... here, Quantity A is greater, so the answer should be that the relationship cannot be determined since two different answer choices were made true Am I over-thinking this or do I have a point? Thank you so much!!!
  5. Hello everyone, I am collecting all the information I can (placements, relationship between grad students and faculty, realtionship between grad students, life on campus, the city, etc.) about the PhD. in Economics program at Princeton, Chicago, NYU, NW and Minnesota. I am macro-finance so it would be great if you can rank those departments in that field. Any suggestion is more than welcome! Thanks.
  6. The story is that this Princeton undergraduate wrote an opinion piece for her school newspaper that got rejected for its indecorousness. This has been floating around Princeton's community, on the internet, and on college admissions websites like college confidential. I think it's an interesting read, although it opens to a lot of controversy. The author definitely paints a different view of what we presume to be an idyllic prestigious college environment. It speaks for itself. Princeton’s Brats Need a Vegas Makeover | Jessie Ye http://jessieye.files.wordpress.com/2011/12/pb1700323.jpg?w=130&h=250
  7. Hello everybody, I used this forum a lot when studying for my GRE, which a took a couple weeks ago, but I never posted anything until now. I just checked my GRE results online and I want to know if I have a change at getting admitted to the programs I want with my "numbers" in the GRE, TOEFL, and GPA. I am from the Dominican Republic, I majored in Systems Engineering (akin maybe to Computer Science) in the Santo Domingo Institute of Technology. It doesn't sound very fancy but it is the best university here in my country. I graduated with a 3.9 GPA, second in my graduating class and first among my same major. I have interest in pursuing a career in research, specifically I'm looking to apply to the PhD degree program in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Cornell University and the PhD program in Electrical Engineering at Princeton University. My GRE scores are 610V (%88) , 720Q (%75) , 4.5AWA (%67). I wished I had done better but that is what I got. I also have a 112 in the TOEFL ibt. Can somebody tell me if I have a chance with this qualifications? I can work in getting good recommendations and writing a good letter of motivation but I want to know if this "stats" are good enough to be considered. Thank you to anyone that may answer. If you want to ask me a question, please, ask away.
  8. Guys- I am new to the forum and also new to Gurgaon.. can anyone recommend a good coaching center..I was at princeton and they only have weekends (and they are expensive).. 9. I am an undergraduate ORFE (Operations Research, Financial Engineering) major at Princeton University. I plan to pursue graduate studies in economics. I will have taken math courses including differential equations, analysis, multivariable calc, topology, probability theory, linear algebra by the time I graduate, and several economics courses. Is this sufficient preparation for econ grad school? Or should I switch over to a math/econ major and take purely math and econ courses? For my current major, I do have to take courses that deal with operations research, financial engineering. How is ORFE undergrad looked upon when it comes to econ graduate school admissions?
