  1. Hey everyone! currently doing my last year of Licence (french bachelor) at TSE. I’d like to pursue my masters at PSE (PPD track) however, I don’t know how high my chances are of getting admited. I know TSE’s ETE M2 is at least as good as PSE’s APE. However the selection for M2 ETE happens during the M1 (and I’m more interested in macro/ development than IO/ theory . If anyone could help me out a little...
  2. Hi! My name is Dung Le and I’m from Vietnam. I have a desire to pursue a PhD in economics in a top-20 graduate school in the USA, but I feel that, with a background of undergraduate in Vietnam and having no master degree, my dream will not come true. So I’m thinking of taking a master degree in Toulouse School of Economics (TSE) or Paris School in Economics (PSE) as an intermediate step. I have two LoRs, one from a professor at PSE and the other from a professor at TSE, so it is very likely that I will be accepted for admission from TSE and PSE. Please help me with my questions! I heard from one of my friends that TSE and PSE are respected for their theoretical and mathematics-focused teaching style and curriculums. Is this insight correct? Is master degree from TSE or PSE highly recognized in top graduate school in the USA (Chicago, MIT, Stanford, …)? If I study well (top 5 in class) in the Master program from TSE or PSE, is it possible for me to be admitted to top PhD in economics in the USA? Between PSE and TSE, which one is best suited for me if my goal is to be admitted in top PhD in economics in the USA? Below are master programs in these two schools. Public Policy and Development – PSE PPD - Public Policy and Development - Paris School of Economics Analysis and Policy in Economics - PSE APE - Analysis and Policy in Economics - Paris School of Economics Master 1 in Economics (international track) – TSE Master 1 in economics (international track) | TSE Master 1 in Econometrics and Statistics (international track) - TSE Master 1 Econometrics and Statistics (international track) | TSE In Master 1 Econometrics and Statistics (international track), I see that there are apparently two options in which the first one is Decisions Mathematics Path and the second one is Statistics and Applied Econometrics Path. You can find the curriculums of these two paths at Master 1 Econometrics and Statistics (international track) | TSE . Please elaborate on the differences, and pros and cons between these two paths. Thank you so much for your help!
  3. Hi everyone I am interested in doing a Master in Economics in France. Namely, TSE, Ecole Polytechnique/ENSAE and PSE (I have been accepted at the former two schools). Does anyone have any experience at the programs above? I am particularly interested in the following: The quality of training and administration (for example, size, teaching quality and rigour of the program - from posts five years ago, it seems that teaching at TSE was poor... has this changed more recently?) RA/reseach work opportunities available to students Placement into PhD programs (either in the US or other UK/European schools) Any information you could share would be very much appreciated (either directly or second hand). Thank you.
  4. I've just applied to these programs: 1. MSPE University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. 2. MSc in Economics - University of Warwick. 3. MSc in Public Policy and Administration - London School of Economics. 4. APE - Paris School of Economics.
  5. Hello. I am waiting for the admission results from the universities mentioned above (except for Mannheim, applications open in a few days) and thought it could fruitful, while waiting, to compare or discuss about their programmes (or even other considerations not strictly related to academic matters). Yet, first of all, is there anyone around who applied for the same programmes (i.e. UC3M MAE, PSE APE)?
  6. Hi - I am trying to decide between the PhD at PSE (APE + doctoral program) and the PhD program at Cemfi. Both are meant to be good for Masters, but I want to stay to write my PhD thesis. I am interested in labor and microeconometrics - both programs are strong in these areas. I have heard that Cemfi has better training (comparable to a good US PhD), while PSE is taught at the level of a traditional Masters (so I will be at a disadvantage coursework-wise). On the other hand, I think PSE might have a better name, and better for placements outside of Europe. Would anyone have any thoughts?
  7. I'm looking into European MA programs, and I was hoping someone could give me a little more information on Paris School of Economics APE program. 1. Should I be applying to M1 or M2? I have an honours BA in Economics with advanced undergrad courses in Micro, Macro and Econometrics. Is M2 reserved for people who already have graduate-level coursework, or just advanced undergrad? 2. Does anyone have any information (or can direct me to good threads) on typical admissions standards or profiles (GRE, GPA, LOR, etc.) 3. Any general thoughts/experience with the program is welcome.
  8. I have been accepted to MSc in Economics programmes at Warwick, Barcelona GSE and QEM erasmus mundus (one semester in bielefeld university and 3 semesters in Sorbonne). I have also waitlisted by APE programme at Paris School of Economics and I'm waiting for results from Bonn Graduate School of Economics. I would like to pursue a PhD in economics at a top 20 economics department probably in the US and my main academic interests are microeconomics (mainly decision theory, industrial organisation and game theory) and labour economics. Can you please rank the schools that I mentioned above ( Warwick, Barcelona GSE, QEM, PSE and Bonn) considering my interests and goals.
  9. I am an international applicant who have been waitlisted by PSE for APE M1 programme. I really want to be got an offer for this programme so I would like to increase my chance if possible. I have already sent an e-mail to ask my ranking in the waitlist, but they didn't reply. What should I do to increase my chances of getting off the waitlist? Do you think it is okay to send an e-mail to coordinator and explain my strong interest? I would be really grateful if those have any experience with PSE or waitlists answer my question.
  10. Hi I'd appreciate it if you can help me assess my profile. And currently, my dream program is the PPD in PSE, though I'm not sure whether it requires a GRE score (I can't find detailed requirements on the PSE website). PROFILE Type of Undergrad: Financing and Banking, Zhejiang University (Top 5 in China) Undergrad GPA: 3.95/4.00, or Overall Marks: 89.49/100 Math Course: Calculus I-III(92, 98, 91), Linear Algebra(89), Ordinary Differential Equations(92), Probability and Mathematical Statistics(97) Econ Course: Microeconomics(94), Macroeconomics(96), Experimental Economics (90), Econometrics (86), Intermediate Macroeconomics (87), Intermediate Microeconomics (90), Intermediate Econometrics (92), Financial Economics (94) Fin Course: Accounting(90), Management (92), Finance (94),Financial Management (84), International Finance (97),Financial Markets and Institutions (90) IELTS: overall 7.5 Intern: KPMG (Hong Kong), Bain (Hong Kong), CITIC Securities Research: Solution to Nonpoint Source Pollution, based on experimental economics RL: two from professor in school of economics in ZJU. Both of them are highly respected and actively publishing in China. Extracurricular Activities: President of Debate Team of ZJU (that's why I love policy research) Research Interest: development economics, policy research. Concern: My major is the elite program of finance, making the major courses half economics and half finance. The advantage lies in that some courses are Master equivalent while the greatest disadvantage is that I don't have much research experience in economics. Thanks a lot:excited:!!
  11. Hello everyone! I am desperately looking for advice. I got admitted in PSE Master's Analysis and Policy in Economics and LMU (University of Munich) MSc Economics programme and I am unsure as to which is the better school. I do not intend to pursue a Phd but am also unsure as to what path in economics I want to follow, therefore I decided to do a more general graduate programme in economics until I make up my mind. Has anyone attended either of these schools or has some information regarding them? I know both are really good, inexpensive and both are in rather costly cities. The advantage of LMU is that it is in Germany and potentially the job prospects there would be better and I would also improve my German language which may prove useful in future. It is a university with very strong traditions and reputation. PSE on the other hand is quite new and I am unsure of their overall status in Europe but they have some very strong professors and it's Paris after all... Any suggestions/advice/comments will be helpful as I need to make up my mind very soon! Thanks very much :)
  12. Hi guys, I really need some help to chose between PSE and BU Master's programs. I graduated from very top ranked engineering school in France in Mechanics. After personal readings and a one-year research experience (in mechanics) I realized I wanted to go for a PhD in Economics and work in the academic field in economics. I applied to PhDs in the US and got admitted in Boston University PhD program. But I felt I could get higher ranked PhD schools so I asked to transfer from Phd to BU MA. in Economics (which I've been authorized). BU MA is a one year program. Meanwhile I have been admitted to Paris School of Economics APE two-year Master Program. My goal is to get to top 10 US Phd schools. So I have basically two options: - attend APE Master to get decent LORs and good economic background (and mathematic background) - attend BU one-year MA and then spending one year as a RA with a professor in BU or ideally MIT or Harvard (I ok to do it whithout being paid) I just don't know if: it is commun in the US to do research with a professor whithout being enrolled anymore in an academic program of the university and if out of these two options, one would be more strategic. Besides, BU is expensive (40 000$ though I have 20 000 dollars Fulbright scholarship) and PSE is almost free. If anybody can help me I would be very thankful, I have only few days to make my decision! Thank you very much!!
