I acknowledge that most applicants will not have any published work in any academic journal given that economic publishing can be very tough, particularly for good journals. Therefore, I ask: Does having published research (2 co-written articles and one sinlge authored) help for PhD applications? I understand that it will depend enormously from where it is published. In my personal case, they are published in low ranked journals. Is it worth submitting one to another journal before the application deadlines? Thanks!

How much does having a couple of research work published in academic journals (not talking of any kind of top journal at all, but still academic journal) or refereed book chapter helps in an application for PhD? Lets say the backround is something like this: GRE Q165 V157 A 4.5, Toeffl ibt 110, good letters of recommendation, good undergarduate GPA in economics (top decil of class, graduated with honours), several math courses but not a matematitian. Thanks!

I have a paper that I have been told has a chance of being published in a mid / mid-upper level journal. Of course, this process is not quick ;-) That said, I could get a published fairly quickly in a lower end / less well known journals (with an Austrian school slant). I'm applying for schools this fall that include Top 10 schools. From an application perspective, what would you consider my best path for publication? Thanks.
