I would love to hear some advice from people about how to navigate being on a waitlist, especially for a school you have a strong preference for. Particularly interested in: Should you reach out to the school? How strongly should you communicate your preference? If it's true, is it worth saying something like "If you make me an offer, I will accept it"? What is the ideal time to reach out? March 15th, April 1st, April 14th? Should you talk about other offers you're considering, or wait until they ask? I imagine most schools have their waitlists in some kind of rough order of who they want to make offers to, but they don't communicate that. Just wondering what the best way to handle this situation and maximize chances of getting an offer is, especially that could lead to an offer before the very last minute.

I just got my first admit for a PhD program starting 2021, but the acceptance email contained no info on funding. The school says on their website that they guarantee funding to all accepted students for 5 years, but no details. This is my first cycle and my first acceptance, so I'm not sure if this is normal/what I should do? Should I reach out to ask about funding details or is that weird? They did say they'd reach out within the next couple of weeks to have me complete a statement of intent to register, but no mention of funding on that. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks

I understand some professors might it take it against the candidate, but did anyone (who's currently pursuing a PhD) reach out to the program coordinators before applying? If so, did that help in any way? Thanks!
