  1. In 2021, I'm finishing my MRes in some European schools. The thing is that I'm not so sure about doing a Ph.D. now. I want to do more courseworks that prepare me to do research in micro theory. For example, now most of my classes are reading papers. It is nice to have some paper reading sessions to get some ideas about research. However, I think I don't learn much by just skimming through them. (I have to read at least 6 papers per week!!) I'm thinking to do one year more coursework. So, if the school allows me to go directly 2nd year MRes it would be nice. Otherwise, Ph.D. program that allows me to take some classes is also fine. Does anyone know some info about this kind of program in Europe? I am thinking about Toulouse M2 or Bonn…but I'm not sure about the exact situation... Just considering that they might have many people doing applied micro theory... Thank you.
  2. I'm reading some papers in the field. However, it seems like that in strategy the literature of corporate strategy is really well-studied, meaning that it apparently isn't a very publishable topic anymore. However, I'm just an undergrad who's obviously not an insider. Would you guys telling me a bit about whether corporate strategy is and will still be a hot topic in strategy for the next few decades (yes, I'm considering about focusing on this branch possibly..) Thx for reading and consideration!!
  3. I've joined this forum just now and look forward to so much. I hope it helps in my licensure exams which I'll be taking 3 years from now. Maybe it's too soon and I'm glad to be here. My sincere greetings to everyone reading this.:)
  4. Hi guys, I was reading "A Guide to Business PHD Aplications", by Abhishek Nagaraj and he heavily recommends this forum (and I heavily recommend thar reading for anyone wanting to aplicate for a PHD). I am recently graduated, currently working in a business school as an assistant; in my first try of GRE I got 163 in Qual (93 percentile) and 165 in Quant (88 percentile). Should I try to improve this results or focus on other things, like research experience before application? Would greatly appreciate any advise. Thanks in advance!
  5. Out of curiosity: people often talk about the difficulty of PhD micro, using MWG as a synonym for hellish impossibility. Does this also extend to PhD micro 2? I mean a course that would use a text like Fudenberg/Tirole. I was reading through F/T recently because I'm interested in game theory, and it was extremely confusing...
  6. The advent of online education in the first decade of the 21st century was the result of and response to a number of factors that were both internal and external to the field of higher education. Traditional tertiary institutions, especially those that were privately endowed, raised tuition rates far in excess of the rate of inflation. This, in concert with a larger demand for post secondary education for working adults, helped facilitate the introduction of online learning. However, it should be acknowledged that the relative simplicity of using the Internet as a platform, as well as its cost-effectiveness, was seized upon by entrepreneurs in the private sector. Online education is largely in the hands of for-profit companies. The question now becomes whether the democratization of higher education is worth the price of removing it from nonprofit, research-based universities. The passage is concerned primarily with: A The advent of online education B adult-oriented educational systems. C the usefulness of the Internet in postsecondary education D trends in online education. E the advantages and disadvantages of online education This is a Kaplan GRE practice question and the answer is D. However I could see C and E as better answers because of the sentence: The question now becomes... because it seems like hes concerned if the advantages are worth the price. I think trends in online education just covers the scope of the facts but not the authors concern so why is the answer D? The book says it explains the whole scope. Help!
  7. Hi!! Im hopefully taking the test this 25 of January. Im so nervous because this will be the second time (the first time it gave me an anxiety attack), because I consider myself a slow reader, Im really concerned about the reading section (again). I've learned english since i was 8 years old and of course i know how to read, comprehend, etc but the time limit just kills me. I read english news daily to practice, but my mind keeps on playing with the idea that I wont make it through the reading section. Do you have any advice for me? Im so scare because my future depends on this test and I know that I can totally understand and speak english, the problem is the time factor. Please help!! Thanks!
  8. Ok, desperate call here. Have been preparing since sometime now, however lately i realized that I suffer from a pathetic syndrome. I have this problem of absentmindedness and that too of highest degree. This is specially when I am reading. I don't know how serious this issue will be taken but I am assured that this is a very critical issue and if treated will help me score much much better. Whenever I read, my mind starts wandering towards un-related things e.g. any recent discussions, gadgets that I want to own, to entrepreneurship, to recent date with my girlfriend, to any random thing one can possibly think of.. I know this sounds very childish and un-professional but is a fact. Worst part is sometimes I don't even realize it. Also, these lapses in attention are for very short intervals, maybe 1-2 seconds but occur very frequently or so but the thing is, I have to return back to the part I missed and inadvertently even skip it. All in All I spend much more time with much less comprehension. This is not just in RC, even in CR, SC and even Maths.... I tend to re read quite often, infact almost 90% of the time. I also think so much when I am doing other activities like talking to someone, watching a movie etc. When I realized about it I searched over internet about the possible remedies. I tried meditation, with earplugs on, studying in White Noise, be here now technique. No matter how hard I try not to think about random stuffs I always end up doing so. I very much want to ace gmat but don't know how to go about it. I recently took few mocks - Manhattan - 670 Powerprep - 700 Veritas - 600 !!!!! :'(( And 1 thing i found common in all(even the questions not taken as mocks) - My accuracy in RC tends to be the lowest (with big difference). Also while analyzing my mocks I realized something. 85% of the mistakes that I committed were not because of forgetting an SC rule or committing a calculation mistake but because I misread (or skipped)words in Statement or Passage or Question or Options. No matter which part of test, I committed the same mistake everywhere. I am sure even while typing this long message I must have thought of numerous random stuffs. I know if I can get over this, big awards are hiding for me. I need advice to overcome this problem. Should I see a psychologist? If anyone is facing the same issue pls let me know. Experts, you can be of great help,u have the experience of psychology of variety of students. I will do everything to overcome it. I have my GMAT exam in 13 days. PM me if u think it can be personal. PS - I don't do drugs, don't smoke, drink very seldom(once in maybe 2months,none since 7-8 months) Thanks in advance for your patience and reply.
