Hey all...I was admitted to Sussex earlier this year...what are your thoughts on PhD economics from university of Sussex. Am still debating it. Would it be better to opt out and reapply else where. I have been told that you can never go wrong with a Phd in economics from anywhere but would appreciate more insight. Thanks

Hello folks, I have heard that some schools use peer-comparisons to limit the number of students who pass the 2nd year prelims. I was just wondering for those that get cut, do they reapply to other business schools? If so, would they have to start as a 1st year all over again at the different school or is there a way to "start" as a 2nd year? Would phd credits transfer? Thanks.

Hi everyone, I have finance PhD offers from UBC Sauder and Rochester Simon, but now I have a chance to work as full-time RA for an institute led by Prof.Thomas Sargent and will hopefully get a letter from him if I re-apply for finance PhD this December. I know there is some opportunity costs and I might be rejected next year due to all possible reasons and the subjective perception of being rejected once. So should I reject my offers and re-apply? And if you were me, which school would you choose? Why? Any advice will be immensely appreciated! BTW OP is a applying with a master degree from China.

Hello, everyone! This is my first time to post and I sincerely hope you can give me some advice in terms of what should I do in next step. As an international student, I apply to 15 schools this year in Management program. However, I can claim now that I fail this year. Although I got an interview from two European schools, which (and only them outside of US) can really compare to the top American programs. Eventually, I got rejections from them. In addition, I also got an interview from a top 20 US Management department but again fail to get an offer. What confuses me a lot is that I am just ignored (no interview/no contact) by other US programs and some of them are quite lower ranked since I want to have some relative safe schools in my application pool. What should I do in next step? I don't know how can I improve my profile since the feedback from my application this year is confusing and misleading. I expected to receive more interviews, which however turns out to be my illusion even after the two European interviews. Thanks for your reply and insights. I really appreciate them.

Hi there, I applied UIUC ACE program 2 years ago and got rejected then. I am still interested in that program and ready to apply again. My question is do I still need to send the GRE score again? I have email them:ace-gso@illinois.edu, but did not get any response yet. Is there anyone has the same problem with mine? Looking forward to any reply and comments.

Long story-short: I received funded offers from four schools, but I am not too excited about enrolling in any one of them. Since I do not want to waste my year, I have decided to accept an offer. However, I will be reapplying next year to try my luck again since I am pretty sure that my lack of math background is the reason why I got rejections from all top 30 universities I applied to (I have not even taken Calculus 3 or Statistics). So my question is, do you think that one semester or one year of PhD-level coursework will increase my chances to get in a better school next year (let's assume that I will receive very good grades)? Also, do you think that it is possible to transfer from a heterodox to a mainstream economics school? If I am planning to transfer, does it still matter if I pick the highest ranked of my options, or the best funded one/best location? If I am willing to start from scratch (start from year 1 again), is this still termed a "transfer"? Any advice/personal experience would be helpful. Thanks in advance! PS: Just to clarify, my GRE score is 590/800/5.5 and my overall GPA is 3.8 (4.0 in Econ and Math). I am currently a senior at a small unranked private university in NY. I am an international student. No RA experience. I think my recommendations were pretty strong, but they are from people who teach heterodox economics (my undergraduate professors).
