I'm a master's student in economics in Brazil and I intend to apply for some PhD programs in economics this year. I did TOEFL and GRE. On the GRE my grades were good, I got 170 in the quant, 163 in the verbal, and 4.5 in the Analytical writing. However, on the TOEFL, I had a problem in the writing (I got 19, I think my arguments in the independent text were contradictory), but I did pretty good in the other parts (30 in the reading and listening and 24 in the speaking). So, my overall was 103, which is above the 100 that the greatest universities generally require. Moreover, I am only intending to apply for universities in which the TOEFL requirement is an overall score (like Berkeley that the minimum requirement is 90, Columbia that the minimum requirement is 100 or UCSD that the minimum requirement is 80). Do you think that I need to retake the TOEFL just because of my grade in the writing? I would not like to take it again because it is an extremely expensive exam here in Brazil and it's extremely stressful.

Hi all, I am new to this forum and need some advice on my application. I have recently decided to pursue a Phd in accounting, but what confused me is the math requirement for an acctg phd. Here is a little bit about my background: B.S in accounting from Penn State with econ minor. (Get all A's in econ courses) MAcc from Ohio State University. Currently working on CPA exams (hope to pass all 4 parts by the time of MAcc graduation) I think I have a competitive background in accounting. But the problem is that I did not take any math courses in my UG. (Took AP and waive calculus in college). Have taken introductory stat course (only 1). I know economy is also important but I don't think a minor in econ will give me any benefit if I target those top 20 programs. My question is: How can I improve my quant background? I don't want to take some courses at community college. Is is possible to get another master in math (or econ, which one do you think is better)? Since I don;t have any math class in UG, is it possible to get in master for math? Or I can apply to PHd now? Thank you very much! Please help.
