  1. I have been admitted to several similarly ranked universities, and some of them require TAing in the first year and others don’t (funding about equal in both cases). How much more should I value the no TA in first year offers? Should it be a no-brainer to go to the program with no TA in the first year, or is TA responsibilities usually lax enough that it doesn’t really matter? For example, assuming that the funding is the same, would you take an offer from a slightly worse program with no TA requirements in first year vs. a program that’s a little better but does have TA requirements in the first year? And yes I will ask current grad students at the programs about this. Thanks for your insight!
  2. I'm a few months shy of jumping into the academic (tenure-track) job market in management. I'm considering applying to balanced and/or teaching schools. Aside from teaching load and tenure requirements, are there any key differences/pros/cons to working at a balanced vs. a teaching school?
  3. What is the best way (Cheap and effective) to meet the eligibility requirements of UK and US colleges in Economics
  4. I want to do a PhD in development economics and I have been looking into PhD programs in Canada. However I feel like the requirements are very spread out. Universities like Toronto have a minimum GPA requirement but the people that get in have way higher GPAs than that, and others like McGuill, have lower requirements. What I'm trying to ask is if anyone here has experience with these programs, should I avoid some simply because they might be extremely hard to get in? Just because I do not have the money to spend on many applications and my grades or GRE scores are not that great either.

Just because I do not have the money to spend on many applications and my grades and GRE scores are not as competitive.
  6. Hi, Has anyone recently submitted an application for exam/license in California? I get really confused if the board asks hospital intern hours from foreign graduates, or we can go only with outpatient pharmacy experience? I wrote to the board and they replied they want 600 hours inpatient experience, which really shocked me, as finding a hospital internship is really hard. I would greatly appreciate your answers and help!
  7. Hi all, Over the past year I have taken an interest in Economics. I was researching graduate programs online and saw that Masters programs aren't particular 'worth it'? From what I gather, the recommendation is generally to go the whole hog to PhD. Now, I have a BA in American Studies from a mid-table UK university - pretty much completely unrelated. In the UK, we focus on our major straightaway and are not given the option to take math or stats courses at uni. Therefore, I have no math background to speak of (I got a B in Math and a C in Stats at 'high school', from what I remember, and that's it). No econ or real business experience to speak of (I taught English in South Korea after graduating). I'll be emigrating to the US in the next few months as I married an American, so I'm talking about US requirements here. My question is: if I start taking math, econ and stats courses in summer 2015 and, for the sake of argument, I ace them all and get a competitive GRE score to boot, how long will it take to take all the relevant courses needed to get into an econ PhD? Do you think I have a chance getting into a program at all? Brutally honest answers are welcome :) Thanks in advance!
  8. I am an foreign graduate with FPGEC and NJ intern permit. I was looking into the regulations and requirements regarding initial licensure in NJ state. It says that foreign graduate must have a FPGEC and BS in pharmacy with 5 year course or Pharm. D. But NABP requires (for FPGEC) 4 year degree course if graduated before 1 Jan 2013 (which is in my case). Am I still eligible for NAPLEX for NJ state. Does anyone wrote NAPLEX for NJ with FPGEC in recent pass. Thanks
  9. I have completed my undergraduate studies from India and want to apply for MS in US. I had English as the language of instruction in all the educational institutes I have attended till my undergraduate. Can anyone clarify whether education from english medium institute is sufficient as English Proficiency requirement. Do I need to give TOEFL in addition? I am specifically interested in applying to Caltech, Berkeley, Stanford, UCLA, EPFL The institute admission page mentions exception to TOEFL for students with English as first/native language. In my case Hindi is the native language, but English is first language of instruction
