  1. Hi. I am an international undergrad, having the GPA of 3.8, but B+ in micro- and agricultural economics, and B in macro- and regulatory economics. So, is there any chance to get admitted with the scholarship to Barcelona GSE (UPF) or to ESS Bocconi. Can I pretend to any scholarship? I mean, is it worth of an application fee (60 euros for UPF,100 euros for Bocconi) to apply to these institutions. Just don't want to throw money down the drain
  2. Hello people. I am deciding between applying for a PhD in economics and going for a Masters first, and I've noticed that most of the Masters have higher tuition fees than the PhD programs (actually, the PhD usually don't have). I want to ask you, how easy or probable is to get a scholarship for a Masters? what can you tell from your experience? Comments about all parts of the world and all universities are welcome. I also would like to note that I am a Math major.
  3. Hi everyone, I have received two admission offers. Eiffel scholarship for M1 Econometrics and Statistics at Toulouse School of Economics (TSE) Eramus Mundus scholarship for Models and Methods of Quantitative Economics (QEM) My goals: Strengthen background on mathematics Facilitate the path to PhD in Economics in USA My question: Which offer should I choose to reach my goals with more ease? Thank you for your help!
  4. Can anyone tell me which EU universities offer masters in economics with scholarships that cover tuition and living expenses? I do not want to apply to Britain universities and I know about Bonn, CEMEFI, Carlos, BI, and Tinbergen. I applied them all.
  5. Hi everybody, I am an Economics student from Turkey and I have been accepted to CEMFI with a tuition waiver, however, I haven't received a stipend. It would be extremely hard for my parents and me to cover the living expenses for two years. Do you know any scholarships that are offered to Non-EU students to study in Spain? Or can you give me some advice about funding? Thank you
  6. Hey guys, I am wondering if anyone has any useful advice how to optimize one's financial situation as a grad student. As an international student I am really clueless about it. I got a fellowship for the first year with 22k stipend, tuition and insurance covered. In the 2nd year and after I will have to teach for ca. 19k and tuition and insurance covered. I guess the money are OK for Midwest, but still I am not very thrilled. I know my department has a few fellowships for the best student, best public policy paper etc. that I could aim for too. So my questions are: 1) How much is actually 20k in Midwest? 2) Can one combine fellowships and teaching? Seems like one could reach above 30k with both. 3) How common is it to work in summer and how much one could aim for? I am thinking about IMF, central banks internship, maybe some consulting. 4) What are other streams of income? Best paper competitions, journal articles etc.?
  7. Hello! I am a fresh Computer Science graduate with low CGPA and I am planning to do MS in Management Information System from USA.Which are the top universities in USA that are offering this degree program? Also my goal is to get scholarship and for that I need a good GRE score. Please tell me how much my good GRE score can compensate my bachelor's GPA in order to get scholarship?
  8. Hey there! Today I received my TOEFL score, and it's 92/120. Reading: 25/30 Listening: 14/30 Speaking: 26/30 Writing: 27/30 Total: 92/120 Is it good? Good enough? I'm currently applying for Harvard and Stanford, so :) I know I scored really high in everything except Listening, but... What do you guys think?? My Listening section is pretty mediocre because while I was listening, many people were in the Speaking part (I got rather late to the center). We were around 20 people taking the iBT... I couldn't hear very well. Would that count as a way to redo the exam without any cost? Should I write to the TOEFL people? (My GPA is of 3.59, if that changes any of your answers?) Thanks in advance! :D
  9. Hi, I want to ask people around here if I have the profile for getting into a top 30-100 PhD program in Economics with a scholarship. I thought about posting in the roll call section, but alll I see is profiles but no comments or replies. I dont understand how it is supposed to work. So, I am posting my profile here with the same format here. Thanks for your time and comments. There it goes: PROFILE: Type of Grad: MSc in Economics and Finance at The University of Kent (UK) Graduate GPA: 3.7- 4.0/4.0 (prize for excellence) Type of Undergrad: International Relations at a French university (Ecole des Hautes Etudes Internationales) Undergrad GPA: 3.5/4 GRE: Havent done it yet Math Courses: Mathematics for Economics undergaduate level (calculus, matrix algebra, optimization, financial mathematics, differential equations, etc) Econ Courses (grad-level): Financial Econometrics, Empirical Macroeconomics (Macroeconometrics), Advanced Macroeconomics, Financial Economics - Markets and Instruments, Asset Pricing, Advanced Econometrics, Research Methods, International Finance and MSc dissertation on applied econometrics for finance. Econ Courses (undergrad-level): Quantitative Methods, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Financial Analysis and Policy Analysis, Introduction to Economics, Geopolitics, Geopolitics of Raw Materials, International Law, Civil Law, Comparative Regime Analysis, Social Psychology, International Politics, Law of the Sea, International Organizations and Dissertation on the resource curse Other Courses: Extra courses on Dynamic Macroeconomics, Numerical Methods, summer course on DSGE models and Dynamic Programming Letters of Recommendation: Two professors from Kent and from the university I am currently at (prefer not to reveal, see below) (all referees figure as top 10% economists in world rankings and have published in both top European and American journals). Another reference from a top 30 US university. Research Experience: Have been working at a top 20 British university doing research (similar as doing a PhD) Teaching Experience: Teaching assistant - Have taught two undergraduate courses for a full semester (Statistics and Econ 101) Research Interests: Macroeconomics, Monetary Economics and DSGE models Work experience: Worked selling options for corporate clients at a bank and worked as a financial journalist. Internship in real estate in the US SOP: Explain how my research interests have evolved but all tending towards research in macroeconomics and a life dedicated to research Concerns: Did not go to super famous schools, my undergrad was more politics so I had to do a 2 year MSc course to pump up my economics training. My age? (Im 28) Other: Very good at Matlab, Dynare, OxMetrics, GAUSS, Rats, R, Eviews, Stata and Excel. Speak English, French, Spanish and Italian Applying to: UC Santa Cruz, UC Riverside, UCSB, North Carolina, Ohio State, Iowa, Boston University ... but to be honest dont know because I havent figured out where I have a higher chance of getting funding. If I could I would pick Princeton, NYU, Wisconsin, Chicago, etc... but we all know those ones are way to hard to get into with my background. I would be happy with any top 30-100 ish in macroeconomics. What do you think? Thanks

  11. Hi. First of all, i have little idea about getting scholarship. So i started to search for scholarship offers for different Canadian Universities to see qualifications needed to get scholarship. I searched atleast 10 Canadian universities. And these universities offer scholarship but any of these universities do not provide qualification needed to get scholarship(not at all). Why is so? They try to hide scholarship program? Try to discourage students or what? So how to get scholarship for those universities? I searched for University of Victoria, Thompson Rivers University, Simon Fraser University, University of toronto, etc. (I want to do MBA as a foreign student and looking for scholarship)
