Please help improve my understanding of rankings of management departments. I have taken a first pass by using UTD's ranking based on research productivity in the following journals between 2010-2019: AOMjournal, ManSci, AOMreview, Admin Sci Quarterly, OrgSci, SMJ. I have a number of questions related to this ranking: 1. Does this ranking align with your own perceptions of relative department quality? 2. UTD's list of top 20 departments includes many places with non-top 20 MBAs. For example, USC, Penn State, Toronto are all top 10 in the UTD list. They outrank Stanford, Columbia, and Northwestern. Why doesn't faculty productivity align with MBA rankings? Do Stanford, Columbia, and Northwestern just not have faculty who are active in management scholarship? 3. Does the UTD ranking align well with phd program quality and job market placements in management academia? i.e., should management/strategy/ob phds from USC, Penn State, Toronto expect similar or better job market prospects than graduates of similar fields from Stanford, Columbia, and Northwestern? I am ultimately trying to get a sense for how people perceive these different departments. I would appreciate any comments that would help me add some context to the UTD rankings. I am hoping to draw on urch's collective wisdom to construct a Top10 or Top20 list of strategy phd programs that are more quantitative/econ-heavy in nature. I was able to find three strong programs, based on a review of course requirements for students, faculty research, and job market placements: UCLA Strategy Toronto Rotman Strategic Management Duke Fuqua Strategy Can I get your opinion on the three programs above? Would you say all of them are Top10 among strategy programs that take a quant/econ approach? How do they fare among strategy programs more generally? I have only identified three programs so far. Can you help me expand this list? I would like to end up with a Top10 or Top20 list if possible.

Undergrad: Done Bachelors in Agriculture Science 2009 – Banaras Hindu University, India. GPA: 7.9/10 Masters degree: MBA 2011 GPA - 70% Areas of interest: Development & Poverty alleviation Research Experience: In total three internship segments of 7 weeks each during MBA involving field data collection and analysis. Teaching Experience: Guided internship segments of more than 100 graduates. Co-evaluator for 35 graduate students for 1 semester field work. Work Experience: Total 7 year. Initial 3 years with World Bank project on Poverty alleviation through social enterprises and women empowerment. Followed by 3 years in CSR and Rehabilitation & Resettlement implementation programs and one year with Corporate Planning wing of largest coal producer of the world. Concentration Applying to: Strategy/Management Number of programs planned to apply to: 10-12 universities Dream Schools: MIT, Booth, Johnson Cornell, INSEAD, Kellogg Other Questions: Questions or concerns you have about your profile? Applying for 2020 program, I am strongly inclined towards programs that are passionate about research in sustainability of business in long term through environment and social responsible actions. Any additional specific questions you may have: Absence of strong research experience and publication can be a deterrent for my application ?

Hey guys, Confused on what my chances are of getting into top 10 or top 20 program in strategic management... 3.4 undergrad from top 10 school in history 3.9 from good MBA program GRE: 710 verbal, 790 quant 2 years at government financial regulator 2+ years as assistant at national level economics think tank overseas (published one paper, helped with several others) calc I and II, stats.. but no other advanced math prep (i.e., no multivariable calculus/linear algebra) Main concerns are that even in strategy, there seems to be a great emphasis on an advanced math background; also, my undergrad grades are mediocre.. so how much will that be offset by my grad grades and the fact that my undergrad was a fair while ago? Any input would be appreciated!!
