Hi, So, there are a number of RA positions/pre-doctoral fellowships that require a writing sample to apply. However, some of these requests ask for samples restricted in length (e.g.

I have both a CV and a resume. The resume is your typical resume with different sections for education, employment, extracurriculars, etc. but specifically includes 1-2 bullet points describing the activity. The CV, on the other hand, I followed the format that a lot of professors & graduate students use so it's more sleek. It contains similar sections (education, employment, conferences, etc.) but no bullet point, just the name of the institution, job title, and dates worked. Which one is appropriate to submit for PhD applications? Should I submit the resume if the application itself doesn't have sections about employment and conferences? Or does the CV look more professional and the admissions committee doesn't need that much more information?

Hi everyone, I am preparing for PhD admission in economics this coming fall. While I was considering which term paper to submit as my writing sample, I realized one problem. Since I read somewhere that the admission committee would use tools like Turnitin to detect plagiarism, and in my university, almost every course requires us to submit the term paper to Turnitin for checking. So if I submit one of these term papers, it would, of course, give a high similarity, but does the committee know it is because "self-plagiarism"?? Many thanks!!

I'm in this boat right now. I plan to take two graduate courses next semester (Micro I & Econ Math) - that's fall of my senior year but only one will conclude before most December deadlines (which are generally Dec 1-10). Thoughts? Obviously my app package would be different for the schools whose deadlines are in January; I'm specifically asking about those due in December. Do most schools let you submit updated transcripts? And it's more unfortunate for my letters, but at least I can get one from a graduate professor (unfortunately it's not going to be Micro I).

Hi all! I submitted most of my applications before the Fall 2017 grades come out. So far a few schools have asked for the updated version of my transcript and most did not. Should I contact them to submit my new transcript? Thanks!

My professor told me that it is okay to submit the test score later than the deadline as they typically review the applicants in Feb. However, those admission offices in other universities keep saying it is a hard deadline for test score submission. I am so conscious about that as applying to one school costs about $150-200USD. I do not want to pay for nothing, not even a chance to be reviewed. May I ask if anyone here actually submitted their scores later than the deadline and was able to get the offer? Thanks a lot!

Anyone else experiencing issues in submitting to PhD Econ Berkeley? Website states that deadline is on 8:59 pm Pacific Standard Time, but I have tried to submit since 2 am and gradapp insists that the deadline has expired. Suggestions?
