I have been put on Minnesota waitlist. According to a poster on this forum it seems that UMN has been admitting people from the waitlist. Can anyone else confirm? A thread to share anxiety and information as well, similar to the Duke thread.

Hey everyone. Has anybody else accepted an offer to University of Arizona? If so, since they cancelled recruit day a week or so ago, I was hoping to start a thread and maybe a group message so we can get to know the other members of our cohort

I don't know if this thread would qualify to stay in the PhD Economics forum, but I will give it a shot. As all incoming Rochester PhDs know, the university housing selection process is over, and there must be some of you who haven't been offered any deal. I'm posting this thread to ask upper-year students about advices regarding off-campus housing, especially as it pertains to international students. Many thanks in advance for any response.

Hi all, Like in other years, this thread is for general discussion among applicants (including vague rumors and outright speculation). The idea is to share what you are going through as you wait for decisions on applications. I do encourage the following: create a thread with your profile and the schools you have applied to and ask people to predict your outcomes. Then, in April, let us know how we did. Remember to be civil to one another and good luck!

There have already been many and there are likely to be more posts of the form "help me choose between X school and Y school". Should we create a single thread where people post all such questions? It would declutter the main feed while making it easier for people with similar decision problems to find each other/receive similar advice without experienced posters having to repeat it across many threads.

Hello, At some places I read that if one doesn't get an interview offer till the mid-February the rejection is on the way. I have also heard of tales of students getting accepted without an interview. Also I have read on websites of good number of universities that an interview is not required to be considered for the PhD position. I searched this forum for this topic, with a variation of keywords, but I couldn't find a thread pertaining to this concern, so I created this thread. If anyone has seen a thread about this, it would be great if you could share it with us. I had contacted some professors in the late 2018, and they had said some positive stuff. Thus, I was optimistic about my chances this time, but it has been very silent so far. :( Is it a common practice to get positive responses from professors? If anyone is in the same boat as me, it would be great to connect and sail together. Does it help to send follow up emails to the department or professors of the universities in which we are interested in? Or is it better to just wait? Also, it would be nice to hear from you about the chances of acceptance if we have not received any interview invitations till now. Best of luck to everyone for this season. :)

Hi all, Like in other years, this thread is for general discussion among applicants (including vague rumors and outright speculation). The idea is to share what you are going through as you wait for decisions on applications. I'm not going to clog up the forum with a roll call thread. The value of the thread was always fairly questionable. I'll create a stickied profiles and results thread in March. I do encourage the following: create a thread with your profile and the schools you have applied to and ask people to predict your outcomes. Then, in April, let us know how we did. First off, apologies for creating a new thread. I know I should probably post it in the Sweat Thread but I'm afraid that my message might just get lost in the stream of posts. It is really important for me, hence posting as a separate thread. Cornell is my dream university and what's quite strange is that I haven't heard back from them yet (Ph.D. economics). I think it's unusual as they have already sent batches of acceptances and rejections a long time ago. At this stage, I'm assuming I'm wait-listed and I'm trying to weigh my chances. I'd like to ask you whether any of you is in the same situation as myself. Also, is there anybody out there who is planning to reject their offer from Cornell in the near future? Thank you very much guys and once again, apologies for posting here.

I figure since things are slowing down and the last thread I found was from years ago maybe we could have a new laptop thread for incoming students. I get to pick a new laptop for my program and I could use some help and I’m sure other incoming students could as well. I’m a pc person debating between XPS 15 or Asus Zenbook myself. Maybe we could post what area we are in and what laptop we have and pros and cons.
