  1. I have got admit from MSc economics program at BGSE (not advanced track) got rejection from their Phd track and also from master of economic analysis program at UC3M. Economic analysis program at UC3M leads to their PhD program but I am not sure how good their PhD program as it doesn't seem they have a good placement records but they pay a monthly stipend of 900 euros. I was wondering how good BGSE's master program to prepare for a good PhD program in either US or Europe? as I had horrible grades in mathematics in undergrad. Also how much sense it makes to go to BGSE instead of a PhD track program and waste additional one year after graduation for application to PhD programs and then enter one? PS: I am not from Spain
  2. Hi all, I just received an offer from UChig Booth (Econ track) a few days ago. Interests are in applied + theoretical IO + antitrust econ. I have several questions, if someone could shed light on them that would be amazing: 1. Do UChig Booth (Econ track) students take the same quals as that of normal Econ students (I am guessing, yes)? How brutal is this process? Chicago seems to be infamous for a high % fail rate. 2. How is the placement like for this program -- is it worth going over say, Michigan? It seems that most Econ-oriented Booth students are finance PhDs, not Econ PhDs. Thank you so much!
  3. I have been admitted to both LSEs EME and BGSE Masters in Economics. Both of them are unfunded. I just wondered which has the best outcomes in terms of PhD placements? I have looked at some of the data on the websites but also wanted to get a second opinion on here! In terms of research interests, I am interested primarily in Empirical Macro. Additionally: 1) If I attend BGSE, I would take the advanced track. 2) I have no prior research experience. 3) LSE's course is twice the price of BGSE advanced track!
  4. strategic management track
  5. There is a general agreement that top European masters like LSE EME are awesome prep for a top US PhD. But how do the first year of policy schools fare compared to them? Well ideally one could argue that policy school is not to be considered as a stepping stone for econ PhD but since so many have done it before, it begs the question. I especially would like to know how it is for the Econ and Public Policy track for Princeton WWS MPA. Their site says Econ and Pub Pol track students take econ courses beyond the core curriculum. Are they allowed to enroll for graduate econ courses provided they already have a solid econ and math background.
  6. Dear all, I am trying to figure out the best master degree option for placing me to top level UK or US top 40 US phd econ and I am VERY interested in staying in Barcelona for my master. Any advice or comment would be really appreciated (Especially current or old BGSE students!). My concern is whether I can really handle advanced track or not. I've done my bsc economics in the UK and took as many theory courses as possible and did quite well on them. However, my university is not a stellar one, around top 15, hence, my econ courses may not be as rigorous & challenging as top univ like Oxbridge or LSE. Moreover, BGSE standard track seems to be the same level as most of British msc economics: LSE msc economics, 1st year Oxford Mphil and UCL msc econ. Advanced track looks like equivalent to UCL, LSE MRes courses or 2nd year Oxford (I might be completely wrong though). Hence, rather than doing advanced track straightaway, I might start with standard and stay one extra year for UPF MRes (called delayed(?) entry phd track) for advance level and make phd applications while I am on MRes. Do any of you think my scenario is convincing? or should I force myself to advanced track as it is far better option.

However, my university is not a stellar one, around top 15, hence, my econ courses may not be as rigorous & challenging as top univ like Oxbridge or LSE. Moreover, BGSE standard track seems to be almost the same level as the most British msc economics: LSE msc economics, 1st year Oxford Mphil and UCL msc econ (I may be completely wrong though) and advanced track is more like LSE, UCL MRes level and 2nd year Oxford. Hence, rather than taking advanced track straightaway, I might choose to study standard and apply for MRes at BGSE (so called delayed(?) track) to stay one more year for advanced track and make phd applications while I am doing advanced ones. Do any of you think my scenario convincing? or should I force myself to the advanced track? as it is far better option.
  9. Hi, I find there is no any information about the completeness of application at Columbia online site. Following the program's instruction I try to check my status here https://admissions.columbia.edu/?s%.5Fid=29fdcd948978a7da8ee32&p%.5Fr%.5Fid=29fdcd948978a7da8ee32&p%.5Ft%.5Fid=adol&athn%.5Ftype=session&jsenabled=true&tran%.5B1%.5D%.5Ftran%.5Fname=adot&tran%.5B1%.5D%.5Foutput%.5Ftype=html%.5Fnscp4 , but it says no results matched. Do your guys have the similar situation? Thanks. The application ID can be found in the application status form of Downloadable Forms in the online application menu at the left side.
