  1. Hello everyone, I’ve been admitted at European University Institute’s PhD with full funding. Nevertheless, I’m worried about the lack of Environmental Economics research among the faculty. I have the alternative option of the doctoral track M2 at Toulouse School of Economics. Nevertheless, at TSE there is no guarantee of progressing to the PhD after the M2 and, given that I already hold a master’s degree, the prospect of ending up with another master and start PhD applications all over again is not flattering. Apparently, TSE accepts around 25 students for the M2 and 15 make it to the PhD. Moreover, I wonder if the current COVID-19 crisis may affect universities’ funding and cohort sizes next year. I also have an admission to the PPE master at Paris School of Economics, which comes with the same caveats as TSE, after 2 years there is guarantee of progressing to the PhD. I’ve entertained the idea of going to EUI and look for a second supervisor elsewhere, EUI students can visit other institution during their second or third year as part of the program. The school holds some exchange agreements with some universities and seems open to the possibility of arrangements with other departments by students proposal (Exchange Programmes • European University Institute). Nevertheless, I wonder if it is a stretch from my part to have this as my plan A. Any thoughts on whether EUI might be a good option after all or if the risk of going to TSE/PSE is still negligible compared to the better fit with its department? I particularly wonder how common it is or if it makes sense for a professor to invest the time and effort of supervising a student outside of his/her uni. Any thoughts/advise welcome! Best regards. PD: TSE comes with some funding (but not a full stipend) and PSE has no funding. I may get some external scholarship, tho.
  2. Hey everyone! currently doing my last year of Licence (french bachelor) at TSE. I’d like to pursue my masters at PSE (PPD track) however, I don’t know how high my chances are of getting admited. I know TSE’s ETE M2 is at least as good as PSE’s APE. However the selection for M2 ETE happens during the M1 (and I’m more interested in macro/ development than IO/ theory . If anyone could help me out a little...
  3. Hi, i just got 164 Quant Gre, unluckily, TSE usually admits students with Quant over 165. should i retake or just apply and pray guys ? such a bad day, just one more point.Frequently asked questions | TSE
  4. I have a very minor question regarding on TSE. I am keen on studying at TSE but I do not speak French. :( Does TSE run its Master 2 Economic Theory and Econometrics, and the following years for Doctoral course in English? It does seems to run its Doctoral Course in English by looking at there website, but I just want to double check if it is correct. Has anyone had experience studying at TSE for M2 (or PHD) without much of French? If so, was it manageable living there?
  5. Hi! My name is Dung Le and I’m from Vietnam. I have a desire to pursue a PhD in economics in a top-20 graduate school in the USA, but I feel that, with a background of undergraduate in Vietnam and having no master degree, my dream will not come true. So I’m thinking of taking a master degree in Toulouse School of Economics (TSE) or Paris School in Economics (PSE) as an intermediate step. I have two LoRs, one from a professor at PSE and the other from a professor at TSE, so it is very likely that I will be accepted for admission from TSE and PSE. Please help me with my questions! I heard from one of my friends that TSE and PSE are respected for their theoretical and mathematics-focused teaching style and curriculums. Is this insight correct? Is master degree from TSE or PSE highly recognized in top graduate school in the USA (Chicago, MIT, Stanford, …)? If I study well (top 5 in class) in the Master program from TSE or PSE, is it possible for me to be admitted to top PhD in economics in the USA? Between PSE and TSE, which one is best suited for me if my goal is to be admitted in top PhD in economics in the USA? Below are master programs in these two schools. Public Policy and Development – PSE PPD - Public Policy and Development - Paris School of Economics Analysis and Policy in Economics - PSE APE - Analysis and Policy in Economics - Paris School of Economics Master 1 in Economics (international track) – TSE Master 1 in economics (international track) | TSE Master 1 in Econometrics and Statistics (international track) - TSE Master 1 Econometrics and Statistics (international track) | TSE In Master 1 Econometrics and Statistics (international track), I see that there are apparently two options in which the first one is Decisions Mathematics Path and the second one is Statistics and Applied Econometrics Path. You can find the curriculums of these two paths at Master 1 Econometrics and Statistics (international track) | TSE . Please elaborate on the differences, and pros and cons between these two paths. Thank you so much for your help!
  6. Hi everyone I am interested in doing a Master in Economics in France. Namely, TSE, Ecole Polytechnique/ENSAE and PSE (I have been accepted at the former two schools). Does anyone have any experience at the programs above? I am particularly interested in the following: The quality of training and administration (for example, size, teaching quality and rigour of the program - from posts five years ago, it seems that teaching at TSE was poor... has this changed more recently?) RA/reseach work opportunities available to students Placement into PhD programs (either in the US or other UK/European schools) Any information you could share would be very much appreciated (either directly or second hand). Thank you.
  7. Hello guys :) I am considering Economics Ph.D. programs in Europe, especially at Toulouse School of Economics(TSE), France. I was able to compare the job market placement between TSE and other 30-40 ranked schools in the US. From my perspectives, the results of TSE looks better; https://www.tse-fr.eu/sites/default/files/TSE/documents/doc/phd_placement/placement_by_year_2017.pdf Job Placement | Department of Economics | University of Washington I wonder how TSE is evaluated in terms of reputation and performance, compared to the US schools. TSE is comparable to which level of schools in US? Would there be disadvantages to pursuing econ Ph.D. in Europe rather than in the U.S.? Thank you for your reading and I will wait for your answers :)
  8. I was offered a place for m1 economics (international) and was notified by an email. As I am non-EU applicant, I had to submit application file to TSE and CampusFrance simultaneously. I have not heard anything from Campusfrance, nor had any interview. Do I still need to wait for a decision from CampusFrance? or the offer given by TSE is the final confirmation.
  9. Hi, I am currently pursuing B.stat (bachelor of statistics) in Indian Statistical Institute(ISI), kolkata. Now, I am in 3rd year (i.e. last year) of B.stat. I had economics as elective in my course. And I will be taking Quantitative Economics as specialization in my M.stat course. After completion my master degree I want to apply for Phd. in TSE. In the following link Apply to study | Toulouse School of Economics I got infos about how to apply. But if somebody here already has done it or know these thing more clearly , please help me how to prepare myself for applying there with sufficient grant. And also by looking at my profile should I apply for M1 or M2?
  10. Hi all, any thoughts on the ERNEA master at Toulouse? How does it rank compared to others on Environment and Natural Resources? What about continuing to a PhD with the ERNEA? Which professors at TSE are worth looking at? Thanks, bml
  11. Hello everybady I gave my tse in last nov, and got 45 . I studied 2 weeks for that time .I requested for rescoring and they told me that my score has been changed. Then I again try for tse this jan and this time I studied for 3 days . I just got the result and it is 50. So, I m writing this mail to help others because I think my score is due to some helpful mails from others in this forum. this is a very simple test , believe me . just do not panic and open your mouth .check the mails from this forum which has questions-answers and question format . During the test day , before the test ,check this forum , u will probably find the questions here. prepare those . in the real test u might find some differences between the real one and the one which was posted . it is ok, people can not remember every details . Do not change that much , talk cleary with good pronounciation . As we r from nonEnglish spoken country , our accent will never be like real english speaker . It is ok . try to talk clearly . Thats all . if anybody need any help mail me.
