  1. Uploaded and submitted on 31st of May, the website indicates there is a Partial Resolution yesterday but get nothing for now. Worried since I have only one Econ MS offer until now. Silently rejected?
  2. received offer from UC3M Econ Analysis with stipend+TAship and ULB MRes Econ (no funding). Interested in MicroEcon/Mathematical Econ. No decision yet. ULB: has a research topic course in first year, earlier access to research; better placement and more researchers in Micro; UC3M: funding; less courses to take in first year;
  3. Hello, I have been admitted to the MSc Economics at Barcelona GSE and UC3M. Both are one-year long courses. Issue: I got no funding. And Barcelona costs twice as much as UC3M. I know Barcelona GSE is generally seen "better" than UC3M, hence why I want to know how much better Barcelona is than UC3M and whether such prestige gap is worth paying twice as much. Interests: Econometrics and Macroeconomics. Which course would you opt for if you were in my position? Which is a better option if I decide to apply for a PhD in the future? Which is one is better for the private sector? Thanks in advance
  4. Hi, I'm creating this thread to exchange information about UC3M and CEMFI. Did anyone receive any news about them? Acceptance, wait list or rejection. Thanks in advance.
  5. Hey guys! I'm deciding between UC3M and a few other schools to do my master in Economics beginning this fall. I have read things about the program at UC3M on this forum (high attition rate, low funding etc.). Given that the posts being referred to are quite outdated, can someone in the program please comment on whether these things still holds. Also any other general information about your experience with the program is high appericiated! Thanks.
  6. Hello everyone. I got accepted in both programs with full funding, specifically Mannheim with tuition waver and monthly stipend of 1200 and UC3M tuition waver and monthly stipend of 900. I'm interested to both the programs, given that my research interests are towards econometrics and macroeconomics and my final goal is to work in Europe. The UC3M program is allegedly be more difficult than Mannheim' one, because it need to pass 3 qual exams to access the second year, however looking at the alumni' placements, it do not seems to worth the excessive effort. I'm stuck up by the choice since a week, every opinion is welcome.
  7. Hello. I am waiting for the admission results from the universities mentioned above (except for Mannheim, applications open in a few days) and thought it could fruitful, while waiting, to compare or discuss about their programmes (or even other considerations not strictly related to academic matters). Yet, first of all, is there anyone around who applied for the same programmes (i.e. UC3M MAE, PSE APE)?
  8. Hi all, Which city do you consider to be the best? Thanks!
  9. I have applied to the Master in Business and Quantitative Methods (UC3M), Master in Econometrics (University Van Amsterdam), Master in Econometrics and Mathematical Economics (TIlburg), almost at the same time (one month ago). Two or three days after I received the admission in the Tilburg progam. Until now, 4 weeks passed and I don't have any notice about UC3M and UVA. Someone has received any news of these two universities?? Thank you very much
  10. An open thread to speculate, hypothesize, fret over, and maybe even post actual useful information about this year's MEDEG admissions.
  11. Nice university if you are interested in Econometrics - specially Time series and Nonparametrics.
  12. Hi all - I am in desperate need of advice, as time is short for me, so any comments or words of wisdom are greatly appreciated. I have presently been admitted to Masters programs in Europe, and I am having a hard time in deciding what I should do...here's my admission status: - Tilburg University: M.Sc. Econometrics and Mathematical Economics (1-year program, no funding) - Barcelona Graduate School of Economics: M.Sc. Economics (1-year program, half tuition waiver) - Universidad Carlos III de Madrid: Masters in Economic Analysis (2-year program, full tuition waiver and 1200 Euros per month stipend for TA-ship) My interests tend towards microeconomics, quantitative economics, and econometrics, though I realize that I have not completely made up my mind either. I am willing to learn anything, really. My eventual goal is to pursue a PhD in economics in the US or UK, though I am not averse to staying in Europe. Should I choose either Tilburg or BGSE, I am also not averse to the idea of pursuing an additional research masters for a year in order to gain additional research experience and contact with professors for letters of recommendation. What should I do? All things being equal, I feel that I should be in Madrid because of the money; however, I heard that their program was REALLY intense and that it was really hard to keep up (that being said, I am used to the pressure as my undergraduate experience was pretty rough as well). But should I accept such a program, given my future goals? Please advise soon, as I need to inform these schools by the middle of next week! Thanks!
  13. Points on UBC and its strengths have already been discussed in my other thread here: http://www.www.urch.com/forums/phd-economics/117779-ubc-vs-bgse-masters.html I'm grateful for those helpful comments, but noting that they need not be made again here, as this is a different sort of question - the importance of faculty research strengths vs funding when considering masters offers. My dilemma is between a funded offer at a good program which poorly matches my interests (UC3M) vs an unfunded offer at a good program which almost perfectly matches my interests (UBC). My research interests (in no particular order): international trade international finance/macro macro China/Asia (for empirical work) My goals in pursuing the masters (in no particular order): confirm my level of interest in making another stab at PhD admissions, with some recent/rigorous coursework as a taste-test; improve my profile with some MA/PhD coursework; kind of a nerd and look forward to the academic rigor of coursework/masters thesis on a topic of interest career related - glass ceiling would be hit this or next year without the masters UBC + Top 20/30 department, good reputation (?) in North America and Asia (preference to working in China/Asia if I go private sector after) + Strong in international economics fields + Vancouver + Would be a good department for my PhD studies, based on research interests - Expensive relative to UC3M (but not terrible by MA/MSc standards) +/- 1 year program - I figure this is a plus if I decide not to pursue the PhD, as it means I'm back on the market, developing my career sooner. Minus if I decide I really am in it for the PhD, as I'll just have 1 year to demonstrate competence and get LORs +/- MA level coursework, not PhD - same reasons as above, except concerning stress level and relevance of studies to ultimate career choice UC3M + Top 50 department, apparently a really strong reputation in Spain and maybe Europe (my Spanish friends couldn't stop saying good things about its reputation in Spain) + Very strong in econometrics + Madrid + Tuition waiver and living stipend guaranteed as long as I maintain good standing + Supposedly good placements of PhD students - Would not be a good department to continue my PhD studies at, based on research interests - MEA program is relatively new, limited information on placement of students into other PhD programs - Attrition rate is 50% +/- 2 year program - see UBC for opposite reasons +/- PhD level coursework, not MA - ditto To be clear, since this weighs into my decision process also, I have been working for several years so funding is not my top concern, although I obviously don't want to spend my savings unnecessarily. Currently I'm leaning towards UBC, despite the costs, because their faculty research strengths are so closely in line with mine. My concern is that if I'm after a MA that includes coursework in several fields as opposed to the dissertation of a PhD does it make sense to place such a strong preference on faculty research strengths over financial considerations? FWIW, UBC is possibly making a second round of TA offers in the next week or so. In the event I get one my decision would be made. I appreciate anyone's :2cents:
