Hello guys! currently finishing my B.sc econ, minor and math at a university in Canada (not a top university) doing to co op program so looking into applying for fall 2017. I'm strongly considering doing a masters degree in econ before entering the workforce and need some help on realistic universities or ranking range (ie top 50/100). My overall average is not very competitive will mostly likely finish at a 75% due to screwing around in my first year in biology haha. But my scores in economics/math courses are well, 88 in intermediate Macro, 80 in intermediate micro, 79 in calculus and statistics. Currently in econometrics and mathematical econ which i know i should try to score well in. Planing on taking the GRE this summer and paying for the prep courses to try and score high. All this considered if anyone could provide insight on any schools i should consider (yes i understand i probably wont get into any tier one programs) in Canada or the US. Thanks.

Hi, everyone. I am a student from the UK, and plan to apply for economics PhD 2015 application. Hoping to get some suggestions from you guys. PROFILE: Type of Undergrad: BScMathematical Economics & Statistics (top 20 UK) Undergrad GPA: 1st Class Honours (scoring in top 2.5% with dissertation in top 1%) Type of Grad: MPhil Economic Research (top 5 UK) Grad GPA: Not sure how to convert, it was an OK pass GRE: Q - 168 | V - 156 | AW - (still waiting expect 4.0 or 4.5) Math Courses: Undergraduate and Graduate Econometrics modules scoring highly in both. Also taken further time series modules and financial econometrics. Econ Courses (grad-level): Standard prerequisites to get onto a UK PhD program, Micro I, Micro II (bad grade due to illness), Macro I, Macro II. Also a financial econometrics module. Econ Courses (undergrad-level): Undergraduate was from the Econ dept so standard Micro, Macro, Econometrics set-up. Scoring quite high in all. Letters of Recommendation: 2 good letters from Undergraduate who know me well and care about where I go (Supervisor and head of department). An OK letter from Masters who specialises in financial econometrics, professor is highly respected and in IDEAS top 350. Research Experience: 3 months out in Uganda conducting Randomized Controlled Trials with IPA - doing most of the Stata work. Worked nearly a year as an Economist in London - commenting on economic news and producing bespoke reports for commercial clients (some of these reports are published and I've been quoted in national newspapers on economic matters). Undergraduate dissertation on bargaining is published. Also wrote a Masters dissertation on financial econometrics which scored well. Research Interests: Financial Economics/Econometrics SOP: Standard with some sporting achievements thrown in Concerns: I was ill during my exam term in my Masters and this has affected some of the grades. Letters of recommendation are likely to be OK/Good but not world beating. Low verbal on GRE - sort of phased out during that part of the test. Other: I have some PhD offers from UK ranked 10-20, I am also enrolled in the BGSE MSc Econ for September. It is likely I'll go to the BGSE and hope to make amends for being ill on my MPhil. Applying to: I'm hoping for US top 20 and some top European schools but would welcome any suggestions (might be too optimistic). I'm also interested in applying to some PhD Finance programs - especially if they are deemed slightly less competitive.

Hi, I have a GRE score of 324. Now I have to make a hasty decision about the colleges to which I have to send my applicaitons. Please suggest some good Universities in the US or Germany, where I can enroll using this score. I plan to study Microelectronics. Moreover, can someone give me a rough idea which country would be better for masters degree? US or Germany? I'm thinking in terms of quality of education as well as job opportunities. Thanks.
