Hi there, I'm currently waitlisted at two top-5 schools and one school that is top-10 in my field, but my best offer so far is from a top-15 program. Do you guys know from personal or other people's experience what are the most effective strategies to increase my chances of being accepted off the waitlists? I've been invited to the hybrid visit day of one of the schools where I'm waitlisted, and I believe this is my best opportunity to get into it. However, I'm still deciding whether I will attend it in person or virtually. I'm an international applicant, so the reimbursement offered will not cover all my costs, and I also need to deal with bureaucracies like getting a US visa and a vaccine passport (only my booster shot is from a vaccine accepted in the US). Do you think that not attending the event in person can impact negatively my chances of getting into this program? Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Hey, I am currently on the waitlist of UCSB and I would really like to go there. I declined all of my other offers except one. Is any of those who already got an offer thinking about rejecting it? Thank you in advance!

I have been put on Minnesota waitlist. According to a poster on this forum it seems that UMN has been admitting people from the waitlist. Can anyone else confirm? A thread to share anxiety and information as well, similar to the Duke thread.

I know a bunch of people are more or less going to be riding out the waitlist for the next month. How are you all coping with the stress? Would it be helpful to start a thread where people sort of post changes to their waitlist status so that others can track how things are progressing? Or would that just make things more stressful?

Hello all! I got an offer from a program I really like and I would like to accept it. However, I'm also on the waitlist of 3 similar-ranked programs that told me they don't know when they'll be releasing their waitlist offers. What would be the best course of action? Even with an offer from any of those 3 other schools I don't know if i would change my mind considering the offer I already have. Should I accept the offer now? Should I let them know about my waitlist status in those other schools? If I do get an offer from the waitlist and decide to go to one of those schools, how should I approach it? Thanks!

Hey all, I am waitlisted at my top choice but will be allowed to join the virtual visit along with admitted people. Along with the virtual visit I will be talking to some professors individually on skype. I'm assuming these talks are mostly just to introduce myself and my research interests and to discuss how they might fit in as a potential mentor if I get in. Are there any other things I should be aware of, or good potential questions to ask beyond the obvious ones? I do want to make a good impression so that if they do start taking people off the waitlist they think of me.

I have been on waitlist since mid February and still it is my top choice. I wonder if there is anybody who has got off of the waitlist since mid Mar. Are they sending offers one by one? Otherwise, are they sending offers all together? Please share your info if anyone knows.

I've been waitlisted at my dream school (in US top 12), but was told through their letter that they generally let in most of their waitlist candidates. In the form for the visit day, I listed the other schools where I was admitted / waitlisted, but have since been accepted to two more schools, ranked slightly below my dream one. I plan on emailing the person of contact about my new acceptances, but want to emphasize that if I was admitted to their program, with funding, I would accept. What's the best way to go about this? Also how likely would an acceptance happen and would they release that on April 15 or earlier?

Hi guys. I've got quite a serious problem that I caused myself. I believe that I made a wrong decision when choosing which offer to accept. I feel that I did what other people were advising me to do and that I didn't follow what my heart was signaling. I know it's a very stupid thing to ask about, but do you think it is theoretically possible to change the decision after the April 15th deadline - after I accepted one offer and rejected another, assuming that the other school didn't get any other student off their waitlist (they didn't have one)?

Can anyone share their experiences being waitlisted? I am now on the waitlists of two schools for finance. What are the chances of getting off a waitlist? About when should I expect to hear back (The deadline to accept a decision is April 15th). Any other information would be appreciated. I'm also wondering if a school admits more people than they expect to enroll at a given time. For instance, if a school wants 3 students to matriculate, will they admit 6 in their first round of offers and expect half to enroll OR will they only make 3 offers at a time and admit people off the waitlist if anyone declines. One school said there isn't a particular order of their waitlist, but depends on who accepts/declines since they want a diverse set of research interests.

Hello all, I received an email from the program that I really want to attend. Sadly, they said I'm currently on waitlist.. It seems all I can do now is to send an email. Is it okay if I send an email to the program director and the coordinator to appeal and show my interest to the program? If so, to what extent do I have to write? Just say "thank you and look forward to good news", or briefly describe my research interests and how much I fit to the program? Your advice would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!

Hi there! I've recently been waitlisted for a PhD in economics at one of the unis in the US. They've just sent me an invitation to a visitation day in March, for which they provide accommodation, travel reimbursement etc. Do you think it's a standard things for people on a waitlist? Or is it safe to assume thay their waitlist is rather small if they are offering it? Thanks for your answers!

I am an international applicant who have been waitlisted by PSE for APE M1 programme. I really want to be got an offer for this programme so I would like to increase my chance if possible. I have already sent an e-mail to ask my ranking in the waitlist, but they didn't reply. What should I do to increase my chances of getting off the waitlist? Do you think it is okay to send an e-mail to coordinator and explain my strong interest? I would be really grateful if those have any experience with PSE or waitlists answer my question.

Hi, everyone. I have received an offer from Penn State with funding (24k) and I am currently on the waitlist of Michigan. If I get off the WL, the funding will be 18k. The problem is that Michigan will remove students from the WL on April 15th and I have to make a choice between these two schools before Michigan sends me an email about my results. My primary interest is in international trade and the secondary is in macro labor and applied game theory. I wrote my master's thesis in these fields, but my interests might change in the future into some other applied micro fields. I know that for trade, Penn State is nearly the top, and it is also very strong in game theory, but in many rankings for overall econ departments, it is ranked lower than Michigan. Michigan also have trade profs like Deardorff and Levchenko, but Deardorff will be 74 when I get PhD. For placements, top students in Penn State sometimes go to top schools, but Michigan seems better for students in the middle. Could you give me some advice about which to choose? Thanks.
