  1. Everyone seems to be fervently opposed to MSc Economics programme as being extremely tough and the professors being unfair and not helpful at Uni of Warwick. If that is the case why is it so high rated? Would you recommend me to go there for my MSc Econ? I have a 3.61/4.00 in my BSc Economics from a top university in Pakistan.
  2. Hi guys, so I am interested in applied/theoretical micro, Game Theory and behavioural econ. What is your opinion when ranking TinbergenInstitute, Berlin School of Economics and Warwick uni?
  3. Warwick is in the UK and GTown offers a locational advantage that is hard to beat. Any advice on choosing between the two programs will help a lot.
  4. I've just applied to these programs: 1. MSPE University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. 2. MSc in Economics - University of Warwick. 3. MSc in Public Policy and Administration - London School of Economics. 4. APE - Paris School of Economics.
  5. I have been accepted to MSc in Economics programmes at Warwick, Barcelona GSE and QEM erasmus mundus (one semester in bielefeld university and 3 semesters in Sorbonne). I have also waitlisted by APE programme at Paris School of Economics and I'm waiting for results from Bonn Graduate School of Economics. I would like to pursue a PhD in economics at a top 20 economics department probably in the US and my main academic interests are microeconomics (mainly decision theory, industrial organisation and game theory) and labour economics. Can you please rank the schools that I mentioned above ( Warwick, Barcelona GSE, QEM, PSE and Bonn) considering my interests and goals.
  6. Hi! I've been admitted in these programs and have to decide which to study during the next course. As I've got a scholarship from my government (developing country), all the costs are covered and the price doesn't have to be taken into account to make the final decision. The fact is that I'd like to pursue a career into an international organization related to Development Economics and ITFD seems to be more oriented to this field and has placed lots of students in relevant institutions. On the other side, Warwick is a good faculty but I'm not sure about its recognition in this field and how it supports its students to get a position there. What do you think is the best choice? Which one will allow me to reach my aim more easily?? Thank you so much. It's very important for me. Hope your opinions.
  7. I am currently a student of the two year MSc programme at Warwick (Diploma plus MSc). My objective is to get into a PhD programme ASAP. Since my undergrad was in business and finance I don’t have high expectations in applying to a top5 department in the US; even though my GRE score is very good (170 quant) and my GPA was 3.8. In Warwick’s diploma (first year of the masters) my final mark was 81 (“impressive” first class honours). I honestly believe that with this mark, and given my undergraduate GPA and GRE score, and can get into any MSc (or Mphil) in the UK starting 2016. My question is, given that I want to apply for a PhD, is it worth for me to “loose” one year and apply to LSE/Cambridge for the masters or I should stay at Warwick and apply now (to enter in the PhD in 2016)? Obs: I don’t mind doing my PhD in the UK as long as it is at LSE or Oxbrigde (since I am european). tks a lot :verydrunk:
  8. Hi, my daughter has got a conditional offer from Warwick for International management but have been told that this course is not so good at warwick, it's much better known for Economics. But her board exams didn't go so well ( am from India ) so she might not get Economics if I change now because the % required is much higher. Any views how does the International Management course compare to Economics i.e faculty, course, future potential etc. Second dilemma Bath, Durham or Warwick. At Bath I have Business adminstration and Economics at Durham Last dilemma USA or UK , how do the two education systems compare i.e campus experience, future potential, way of teaching, etc Lots of question so would appreciate whatever help / inputs one can give. In USA the options she have are Scripps or Bryn Mawr or Brandeis. If you dont have much time answer whatever you have some solid views on. Thanks in advance .. Confused father :-)
  9. Hello all! I was shortlisted by Warwick for an interview. They said it will be around 10 or 15 minutes. So I do not expect them to go into too much detail. Nevertheless, if any of you experienced this interview in the past or if anyone has some information about what to expect, share it here!
  10. Hi, I got a really difficult choice to make and I would appreciate your help. I got into MPhil Economics at Oxford, but I'm afraid that I won't be able to attend the program (financial reasons, obviously...). Now, I'm trying to figure out what would be the best second choice. I got into LSE, but I would have to do 2-year program which is also very very expensive (+ living in London) so I'm basically left with a choice between Warwick and Barcelona GSE. I got a full tuition waiver from Barcelona and I would have to pay for Warwick, but because they are both 1-year programs finance shouldn't be an issue. At first I was leaning towards Barcelona, but I heard some terrible things about how difficult the program is (I will work hard, but I'm afraid that it will be impossible to get excellent grades). Plus I'm very micro/labour oriented so Barcelona may not be the best place for me. My goal would be to do an applied micro PhD at LSE/Oxford/UCL (maybe the US). So my question is: which school would increase my chances of getting a PhD offer? I know that Warwick is in the middle of nowhere and I would rather live in Barcelona, but I would be willing to spend a year there if that's the best decision. Thanks!
  11. Hey!! so this is my first post here! :) I am going to be applying to the warwick msc. econ and msc econ and international financial econ. i am really confused :(as to which is i intend to work for some years after my masters so which course will be better in terms of content and job prospects?? also which course is more reputed/renowned?? thanks :) P.S. : has anyone heard about the msc management and econ. course at lse??
  12. I am really interested in studying MSc Finance or Economics in the United Kingdom (WARWICK, preferably) . So I thought I post here to see what you people think about my profile before I apply to universities in UK. My profile is as follows: Graduating from a top university in India in BSc in Economics in 2012. Till my fourth semester, my CGPA is 3.43 on 4. My avg. GPA in all the math related courses in my under-grad course is around 3.4. GRE SCORE: 730Q and 490V, AWA - 3 :( I have appeared for several certification courses conducted by the National Stock Exchange, India. I have completed two internships, one with a stock broker and the other with The Royal Bank of Scotland. My co-curricular and extra-curricular activities is, I guess fine. Member of the student council in college, a few MUNs and economic symposiums conducted by other colleges in India etc. So what are my chances to get into Warwick?
  13. Hi, I should introduce myself briefly. I have been lurking on these forums for some time. I have a great BSc Econ from my local university, which is not famous for econ, other than in some sub-fields. I am enrolled to the MSc Econ program at the same university, but mostly because the structure is quite lax, allowing me to follow courses at other universities for free. My academic interests are agent behavior, interaction and the implications of imperfections, especially information problems regarding credit markets. While I do not dismiss the framework of rational agents, it many cases it is probably misleading. Recently, I have been studying evolutionary game theory, reciprocity and similar stuff. I will attend one of the following MSc programs next semester. Only the first is confirmed, but I believe I have a good shot at the other ones as well: MSc in Economics and Psychological Sciences at Warwick MSc in Economics/Economics Policy at UCL (they have some nice elective courses and Binmore is teh Awesome!) MSc in Competition and Market Regulation at BGSE. The program counts toward my vanilla MSc Econ from my local university. It should also be noted that being Scandinavian, I am quite a bit more fond of small classes with the possibility of concurrent discussion than ``traditional'' lectures. My medium run goal is to get a Ph.D. from a European university or American university, dealing specifically with microeconomics as briefly described above. My Unreachable Dream™ is probably the CalTech Social Science Ph.D. program. One ought to aim high, eh? Given my interests, my background and my goal(s), I would greatly appreciate specific advice on which program to follow or just general advice. Thanks in advance, Rasmus
