  1. Prompt: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? A person should never make an important decision alone. People make a significant amount of important decisions during their lives. In my opinion, a person ought to take into consideration different factors, including valuable advice, when it comes to make a life-changing decision. I feel this way for two reasons, which I will explore in the following essay. To begin with, human beings have never been isolated individuals. Throughout our life, we feel like we are part of different groups such as family, friends or colleagues. This is because we get the opportunity to coexist with a lot of people in each of the places we usually develop. Each person we meet has an impact on our life. When making an important decision, people often are influenced by their surroundings. My own experience is a good example of this. Whenever I need to make a critical decision, I often seek for advice. My first option is to ask someone who has gone through a similar situation in the past. At the moment, I am deciding where to study a master program abroad. An important person who is helping me decide is a teacher, because he completed his master degree in Denmark and also applied to different programs in Canada before. He has enough expertise in applying to foreign universities and is walking me through the entire process. A person with more knowledge in the topic can always provide valuable advice. Secondly, it is fundamental to make decisions based on how it will impact people that are really close to us. This does not mean that we have to think of all the people around us to take a decision, only those who can be affected by the situation. For instance, since I was a child I had always moved from one city to another because of my father´s job until four years ago when I started high school. His job has always been very demanding, so we needed to live in different cities every once in a while. However, when I started high school he managed to stay only in one city because he considered that at that time I was not ready to live on my own. Thanks to that decision, he did not affect my studies or development. In conclusion, I strongly believe that it is better for people to make important decisions based on valuable advice and their influence on how it might affect people close to them, rather than making decisions on their own.
  2. Please Grade my below essay, it's an independent task for Toefl. Topic: People benefit from traveling in their own country than from traveling to the foreign country. I agree that traveling in the own country as well as the foreign country benefit people in various ways. traveling in the own country used to know in depth about own country different flavors. Foreign country traveling used to know about a different culture and lifestyle. Traveling in its own country is advantageous in many terms first it's very cheap to travel in the same country. we can easily communicate with local people so it's easy to bargain. this gives a deep knowledge about our own culture, lifestyle, and food. In our own country, it's easy to visit a place more than once because it's cheap and easily accessible. visiting a place more than once enable us to experience the same thing with the different point of views and angles. More information shall enable us to share it with others which will result into increased tourism in our country, this will affect our economy and finally, it will be used as the welfare of our country people. Traveling in a foreign country is helpful for getting worldwide knowledge. this introduces us to know about different culture, lifestyle, and their local food taste. we meet different type of peoples, mostly we come across communication problem but at the same time we communicate with those local people in terms gesture, different sound words. so it enable us to express ourselves in more creative ways. Now the day's lots of information is present on the internet, we can browse for foreign location on the internet too, but experiencing it physically is a unique and mindblowing experience which can't be experienced through looking in the pictures on the internet. so overall traveling has lots of advantage in terms of knowledge, experience the beauty of different places and economical benefits.
  3. Reading Passage: Reading Time: 3 minutes In the United States, employees typically work five days a week for eight hours each day. However, many employees want to work a four-day week and are willing to accept less pay in order to do so. A mandatory policy requiring companies to offer their employees the option of working a four-day workweek for four-fifths (80 percent) of their normal pay would benefit the economy as a whole as well as the individual companies and the employees who decided to take the option. The shortened workweek would increase company profits because employees would feel more rested and alert, and as a result, they would make fewer costly errors in their work. Hiring more staff to ensure that the same amount of work would be accomplished would not result in additional payroll costs because four-day employees would only be paid 80 percent of the normal rate. In the end, companies would have fewer overworked and error-prone employees for the same money, which would increase company profits. For the country as a whole, one of the primary benefits of offering this option to employees is that it would reduce unemployment rates. If many full-time employees started working fewer hours, some of their workload would have to be shifted to others. Thus, for every four employees who went on an 80 percent week, a new employee could be hired at the 80 percent rate. Finally, the option of a four-day workweek would be better for individual employees. Employees who could afford a lower salary in exchange for more free time could improve the quality of their lives by spending the extra time with their families, pursuing private interests, or enjoying leisure activities. Narrator: Now listen to part of a lecture on the topic you just read about. Professor: Offering employees the option of a four-day workweek won’t affect company profits, economic conditions, or the lives of employees in the ways the reading suggests. First, offering a four-day workweek will probably force companies to spend more— possibly a lot more. Adding new workers means putting much more money into providing training and medical benefits; remember … the costs of things like health benefits can be the same whether an employee works four days or five. And having more employees also requires more office space and more computers. These additional costs would quickly cut into company profits. Second, with respect to overall employment, it doesn’t follow that once some employees choose a four-day workweek, many more jobs will become available. Hiring new workers is costly, as I argued a moment ago. And companies have other options: they might just choose to ask their employees to work overtime to make up the difference. Worse, companies might raise expectations … they might start to expect that their four-day employees can do the same amount of work they used to do in five days. If this happens, then no additional jobs will be created and current jobs will become more unpleasant. Finally, while a four-day workweek offers employees more free time to invest in their personal lives, it also presents some risks that could end up reducing their quality of life. Working a shorter week can decrease employees’ job stability and harm their chances for advancing their careers. Four-day employees are likely to be the first to lose their jobs during an economic downturn. They may also be passed over for promotions because companies might prefer to have five-day employees in management positions to ensure continuous coverage and consistent supervision for the entire workweek. Narrator: Summarize the points made in the lecture, be sure to explain how they cast doubt on specific points made in the reading passage. Here is My Response: Please check my response and let me know where i can do improvement. In the lecture, the narrator suggests that reducing workload from 5 days to 4 days won't affect the economy, which is contradictory to the reading passage. According to the narrator to hire new Employees needs more money for training, medical benefits, more computers and more office space. which will cut down on company profits and this may cost more money than retaining the same no of employees for 5 days work. Besides, reading states that shortened weekend will increase company profits as their employee feel more rested and relaxed so they will likely to make less error in their work but narrator thinks that company may ask their 4-day employees to work overtime to complete the 5-day work in 4-days. this will make the current job more unpleasant and this won't create additional jobs too. In the end, the reading passage states that 4 days employees will have more free time in exchange for their lower salary this could improve their quality of life by spending more time with family members, pursuing private interests and enjoying leisure activities but narrator says that 4-days employee would risk their job stability and also advancement in their career path because they may lose their jobs in economic downturn . They may also be passed over promotion too because the company will prefer 5-day employee for the management position as they can give more time for consistent supervision.
  4. Hey guys! Today I've started practicing my writing for the toefl exam. I would like you to correct and rate my essay. Also, I would really appreciatte if you could give me some advices. My Essay (it's from a integrated question) The reading and the lecture talk about the decrease of sea otters in the Alaskan coast. The author of the passage believes that this problem is most likely happening because of water polluiton. However, the lecturer contradicts the theory claimed by the passage saying that predation is the only plausible reason for this to happen. First, the passage mentions that the rise level of pollution sources as oil rigs and other high level of chemicals are affecting the otters immune system, who are becoming weaker by the day. This point is challenged by the speaker who points out the lack of dead sea otters bodies by the coast, which confirms that these animals are being eaten by predators. Secondly, the author states that not only otters, but a large number of other sea mammals are being affected by water pollution. The passage declines the idea that orcas can cause the same effect by stating that these animals usually search for bigger species to eat. The lecture rebuts this argument by suggesting that orcas options of food decreased once whales started being hunted by humans. Therefore, orcas are huntting other small animals which causes sea otters to become one of their menu options. Finally, the passage mentions that water pollution also explains the unstable pattern of otter decline in the area. The author notes that this can be caused by ocean currents. But, once again, the speaker disagrees with the passage idea stating that all of this has to do with acessibility. The lecture puts forth that some regions are more dificult to access, as for exemple, shallow rocky locations, which makes harder for orcas to pass through and consequently wil be easier to find a considerable number of otters there.
  5. TOEFL Independent Writing Task: Q: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Children over the age of 15 should be allowed to vote. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. Response: Research has proven that the human generation is growing smarter. Statistics from several IQ tests has shown an increase of about 4-6 points per human generation. Despite the increase in IQ levels which depict human intelligence, there is no evidence of increase in maturity levels. I firmly disagree with the statement that children over the age of 15 should be allowed to vote. Majority of children gain the knowledge, experience and the ability to make decisions after they are seventeen or eighteen years old. Though children are gaining more knowledge at an early age nowadays, that knowledge is more in the fields of physical sciences. Because of the Internet, they know a lot more about topics and subjects taught in their schools. However, they may fail to possess the wisdom required in the field of Politics. For example, most of my friends didn't even know about all the political parties extant in my country before eleventh grade. How can they be expected to reach a valid conclusion without possessing sufficient information? Having had no prior experience, a few children can recognize the work done by political parties at a very young age. It’s true that even children who vote for the first time when they are eighteen years old have no prior experience. However, by that time, they may have learned more about the political parties and their work from their parents. This sort of gives them a secondhand experience. It’s utmost necessary to know about the past work done by the elected parties and their impacts. Coming to ability of making decisions, majority of children make major decisions after eleventh or twelfth grade, when they need to choose their college. There is a vast difference between deciding the outfit to be worn on a date and choosing a National Leader, who usually stays in rule for five years in most of the countries. Kids can be easily swayed by small incentives like 'Free Wi-Fi’, concessions in Movie Tickets et al, thereby missing out on major issues like Foreign Policies or GDP improvisation. To conclude, children should be allowed to vote after seventeen or eighteen years as by that time, they would have gained sufficient knowledge about political parties, would have become better at making decisions and would have gained some secondary experience of elections. 6. Some students prefer classes with open discussions between the professor and students and almost no lectures. Other students prefer classes with lectures and almost no discussions. Which do you prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. How lectures are being taught plays an important role in the life of a student. Students' academic performance majorly depends upon the way teacher teaches to them. If given a choice, some students, I am sure, would chose lectures with more discussion. Others would chose lectures with less discussion. I think, lectures with more discussion are better than lectures with less discussion for several reasons. The main reason is that, students can understand better in a lecture with open discussion. While interacting with each other, professor will knows when and what students are not understanding and they can clarify the unclear topic right away. For instance, when I was in secondary school, there was a teacher who taught us mathematics. She used to teach us in a very interactive way: first she explains a topic and solves its example questions, then she use to give us few questions to solve on our own, after a few time, she use to check each student's note copy and corrects us if there is any mistake. As a result every student in my class scored good marks in mathematics. As you can see, class with more interaction are better for students. Another reason is that, students can ask their doubts as soon as they have it. In an open discussion any student can ask their professor whatever they want to, regarding the lecture. It will not only clear their doubts, but also increase their confidence level. For example, when I was in college, there was a professor who taught us chemistry and he allowed us (students) to have an open discussion about every topic he taught. In this way I was able to ask any doubts to the professor. Sometimes when I didn’t had any doubt my potential doubts were also clarified because they were asked my some other student. So it is clear that discussion plays a crucial role in any lecture. In conclusion, lectures with more discussion are much better than lectures with less discussion. Interactive class not only allows a student to ask clarify their doubts, but also it make to understand the lecture better. So students should have an open discussion during their lectures. 7. hi there this is my first practicing for Toefl writing section's Q2 Tractice #1 Topic:Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?Parents are the best teachers.Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. This is my answer The people still have been arguing that parents are the best teacher or not.On the one hand, they think that parents best for influence their children but on the other hand, they think that teacher best for some reason. While,i feel strongly that the parent can be the best teachers for the following 2 reasons:the life lesson and morality lesson First, the parent can teach some instructive lesson of life compared other one.For example,All of high school students-especially boys-who easily tempted to bad habits such as marijuana, alcohol and smoking etc...However,Teachers or social worker of school can't break down this habits.while.parents can strongly influence their own children. That is can become very important lesson of life for their children. Second, parents can teach lesson about morality that teacher would be skip it.For instance,The teacher can't recognize morality lesson for each students.Because they are only teach common subject that the inherently assignment.While.parent are the best know their children and about morality.so they can teach about morality outside of class. Finally, the parent today teaching life lesson and morality lesson without any teacher only based on their own experience. So i heavily agree that the parent are the best teacher for life.
